About this property
Perfect spot for a honeymoon or a family vacation
Beautiful, private, two bedroom camp* overlooking Walker Pond in Brooksville. Custom kitchen, living room with fireplace, bath with jetted tub and deck.
Family room DVD and VCR viewing systems (viewed on TV, But no TV reception), and Foosball table. Perfect for a romantic getaway or a family vacation. Not recommended for small children or persons who have difficulty with stairs.
* Please note - "camp" in Maine means a place to kick back and relax, go fishing, hunting, swimming, etc. It may also mean that there may be mice, chipmunks, and a slight mildewy smell - especially if the weather has been humid or if previous renters have not emptied the dehumidifiers.
Canoe (16') and kayak are available to borrow (life jackets also). Use of the beach is permitted by owners of the beach as long as we all keep it uncluttered and in its natural condition.
Disclaimer - Camp Robinhood is close by and is open from June 26 - Aug. 15. They make a lot of noise - learning how to water ski, sail, having singing contests and the like - they are 13 - 16 year olds learning how to have good clean fun. It is noisy during that time.
Walker Pond: Walker Pond is touted to be the third cleanest body of water in Maine. There are several species of fish including bass and trout. The water is up to four feet deep for approximately 100 ft. out. It reaches depths of 40 feet. The kayak that is available is made of heavy plastic. It is unsinkable and does not flip. It is perfect for the novice. The 16' canoe is perfect for two, three, or even four (two adults and two small children). Life jackets are provided or you may bring your own.
There is nothing more relaxing than listening to the loons in the evening, or watching a bald eagle soar over the lake.
Things to Do: Many of our guests enjoy just staying at the 'pond.' However, for those who like to venture out, there are many areas to hike, bike or drive. The public beach after the causeway from Little Deer Isle to Deer Isle is only a five minute drive. Deer Isle is a wonderful island full of the 'real' Maine. There are many artists and artisans with galleries out of their own homes, grocery stores, quaint shops, and Stonington, at the far end of the island is a working fishing village. The views are spectacular as you drive or bike ride and it is far less crowded than the Bar Harbor region.
Bar Harbor is about an hour drive away.
This rental offers no Television reception. Some phones may be able to access a hotspot, but there is a landline available for your use at no extra cost.

About the host
Hosted by Sharon Thoner

I was born in Idaho, raised in Maryland went to college in Utah, and my husband and I moved to Maine in 1981. I am currently a full-time teacher, a mother of 3 grown sons, and a grandmother to 6 children. We currently live on Little Deer Isle, about 5 minutes from the rental house.
Why they chose this property
My husband built this house around 2000. We had lived near fresh water in other parts of the state, and though we are now on the ocean, we wanted a place to go swimming and fishing in fresh water. My husband is an artist at heart, and he designed and built the house with attention to every detail. He and his crew cleared the land, put in the driveway, and built the house. He personally did most of the stonework around the fireplace. The granite countertops, custom built cabinets, etc., are a source of great pride to him. Everyone that enters is pleased at the aesthetic nature of the building.
What makes this property unique
There is no Internet or WiFi connection. This offers you and your family time with each other without the distraction of devices. Local libraries and schools provide internet access from their parking lots - no passwords required.
