The Gatehouse is a ground floor apartment adjoining the main property 'Castle House' in the Village of Penysarn. The property has a large 250 ft garden which is currently a work in Progress as we only moved here ourselves a few months ago. The apartment has two bedrooms - a double and twin with a kitchen and brand new modern bathroom. It is dog friendly for up to 2 medium sized dogs. A charge of £10 per dog per stay is charged on arrival. The tranquil beach of Llaneilian is only a mile and a half away down a country lane and makes for a beautiful walk. This then takes you to the stunning coastal path of Anglesey if you so wish. Penysarn also nestles in the shadow of the Parys Mountain which was once the home of the largest copper mine in the world and is now a Heritage Centre. We have a regular bus service which stops around the corner from the property every half hour and will take you everywhere on the Island or even North Wales if you so wish. The nearest Town is Amlwch, about 3 minutes drive away, which used to be a thriving fishing and merchant Port. Fishing trips can be arranged if required.

Perfect place for everything we needed. 7 minutes door to door from Bully Bay golf club, private parking & plenty of space for 2/3 people. Gwenda was incredibly helpful, welcoming & attentive from the moment we got there & we enjoyed the welcome basket! Thank you 🙏
We would like to compliment our hosts for their hospitality and attention to our needs during our stay. We were very lucky to get such great weather too!! :)

Oh the power of advertising! This property was advertised as being for adults only, with a large garden for the use of visitors/dogs. However, on arrival there was a family with 3 young boys in the flat above. The sound insulation between the two was negligible, so all we heard were thumps, bumps and loud conversation until 11.30pm. The 'garden' was accessed via the car park/building site, by squeezing between two vehicles, and was barely big enough for a medium sized dog to canter around! I presume by 'large garden' the car park was included? One also had to have said dog on a lead for safety to get to it as the property is also adjacent to the main road through the village. This renders the twin bedroom to the front noisy, and one is unable to open the windows as they are directly on to the pavement outside, so noise/security is an issue. Heating was at the behest of the hosts, albeit the woodburner was an option if you wanted to buy fuel. The single beds were of the smaller variety with only single duvets which slipped off on a regular basis, so sleeping comfortably was not possible. The 'homemade' Marmade marmalade, bara brith and pint of milk was a kind gesture, but did not make up for the dodgy TV (the signal was blamed but I believe the other flats did not have the same problem) and lack of radio. Signage to the beach was negligible so take your map/sat nav!!! Overall, an interesting stay but not one to be repeated. Buyer beware!
I had a very warm welcome for both me and my dog. If was made sure I understood how all the appliances worked and knew were to find everything. The apartment was comfortable and cosy and well equipped with everything I needed including a small stool in the kitchen which was a godsend as I'm rather short to reach cupboards. The homemade bara brith and marmalade was a lovely touch and much appreciated. Great location for exploring the island. It was just a pity there is no pub in the village as would have been nice to have got out in the evening with the dog for dinner and a drink but being on my own and having no one to share a drive with meant not really being able to get out but that is the only thing I would change and def not a negative reflection on the accommodation just worth being aware of.
Very good accommodation and ideal base for discovering Anglesey.
Moelfre is well worth a visit with beautiful clear water in the bay and the Kinmel public house for food was very good also. Doggie friendly too
The hosts Gwenda and Dick were lovely and advised if we needed anything just to ask. The apartment had great amenities even including to my happy surprise a dishwasher. The double bed was very comfortable and the shower has plenty of heat and power. Very well located for anywhere on Anglesey.
We had a great stay and fell in love with Anglesey. The apartment was clean and spacious and it will be even nicer once the garden is finished. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly.
Had a lovely break at the Castle House apartments, great location for exploring Anglesey.
Owners very friendly and helpful, apartment spacious, comfortable and well equipped.
Wonderfully placed property for our weekend break. Exactly what we wanted, very comfy beds , near to the beach in a quiet village location.

About the host
Hosted by Gwenda
We have many years experiences of looking after guests through B & B and self catering. Dic and I have 6 children and all have now left the nest (woohoo)! the bonus of this is that we now have 14 grandchildren. We bought Castle House as we had originally thought to downsize but when you see the size of the property, you'll see that we got that wrong ! We used to own the local Village and shop which also had a Post Office. After 8 years of work beginning at 6.00 a.m and ending at 8.00 p.m. we decided that we wanted a 'life'. We also had a small cafe so we have many years of face to face contact with people. My background is in theatre and television and I am a very outgoing person who enjoys the company of others very much. I get a lot of pleasure from entertaining and looking after other people which makes it ideal to be a holiday host. My hobby is baking and cooking and I have an honesty cart outside the house and it has jams, chutneys and cakes on a daily basis which is another form of looking after people.
Why they chose this property
The property is quite simple but we have a very high standard of cleanliness and as we live on the site, we are available should any problems arise. This is the ideal location for a quiet holiday. There is a very large garden that we only discovered some time after moving in. It is still very much a work in progress project but we hope to have it looking the way we want it by next season. We see quite a bit o f wild life wandering around the garden and if you're lucky, you may even see our little squirrel The property is centrally located in the small Village of Penysarn and just around the corner is the Village shop and Post Office and opposite the property is the local craft shop which sells local ales and gins. As you need a car to get anywhere on the Island, we are ideally positioned for you to get to wherever you want. There are many different types of beaches not too far away, so if you're looking for a family sandy beach or a quiet little rocky cove, it's all here for you.
What makes this property unique
Ideal for a quiet break. And, we are open 365 days of the year.
