Thanks for your feedback, and I’m really sorry we missed your messages. If you were reaching out while we were traveling, that may explain the delay—but I completely understand how that could be frustrating. I appreciate you letting us know, and I’m glad to hear the stay overall was a good one. We'll make sure to improve our response time moving forward.
Beautiful cottage, spectacular property, wonderful hosts. Not sure what else to say? We came up to CT with our pup to look at areas we may want to move to. The cottage was perfect for us, nice and private and lots of land for our pup to walk. Great state park a few miles away and plenty of good restaurants nearby. Very happy!

Staying at the Garden Cottage was a serene and peaceful get away after losing a very dear
nephew.
Faye and family allowed my local family to come to visit and enjoy the peace and serenity of the country surrounded by the beauty of the flowers and nature.
Its fragrant scent still lingers.
Thank you

Thank you for such a lovely review. You were a joy to host! I look forward to seeing soon!
Super charming cottage! Loved being surrounded by flowers in bloom; enjoyed morning coffee in outside space.
Interior lovely with well chosen antiques/vintage appropriate items.
I was worried about white couches with a hubby and a teenager, but there were covers for protection.
We did not cook or needed a kitchen for meals, just made coffee, but could have easily done so in well equipped kitchen. No room for three to sit in kitchen, but did not need to.
Lovely stay with friendly hosts!

very disappointing trip
I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the house and the bed in one bedroom was very uncomfortable . The house does not look like it was renovated.

Ellen and her husband booked the cottage and came a day early. Paul and I were finishing making the beds when they arrived. I had cleaned it earlier in the day. She did book a pet but did not tell us she was bringing 3 dogs. People usually don’t leave that out. I did request that they put the pet covers that we have in the linen closet on the white sofas.
She was going to pay me for the extra night directly when she arrived but didn't. She and her husband stayed one night and disappeared the next day. We live right across from the cottage about 60 feet. They did not come by and tell us they had any problems with beds, condition of the house or cleanliness. We received a call 2 days later from her. She told me that the trees made her sick, she complained about the beds and the dogs were restless. She told me she found accommodations with her sister and she would like a refund. I suggested she call and get the reservation cleared from my calendar and if I could get it booked I would give her some money back.
Its the first time I’ve had guests behave this way. Sad.
This cottage is adorable and charming on a large hillside property. I was in the house for a month. The owner is lovely and accessible The fenced yard is perfect for traveling with a pet and the walks down the large hill to the stream are even better. The house is comfortable as is the bed in the front bedroom. Things that make the house four star instead of five star are the mediocre quality kitchen furnishings, a noisy sump pump, mismatched and somewhat older bed linens and towels, less than abundant hot water, and an address that makes receiving deliveries in any many very challenging (too long to explain but trust me that I spent a lot of time directing UberEats, Instacart, UPS, and FedEx). Despite these imperfections, I loved my stay and would stay again if I was in the area. (With the hope that the owner would elevate the comfort and raise rices accordingly.) I’m rooting for this charming house to succeed even more than it already has.

Cute house by busy street
The house is very cute and comfortable.
The kitchen is not fully equipped, for someone who likes to cooks a lot.
Shower and tub were not thoroughly cleaned.
Backyard is nice, but you have to listen to a lot of road noise.
The only tv is in a bedroom, very odd. When my husband tried to watch tv, it displayed that he would have to pay for Apple TV (who does that to renters).
The only a/c is a window unit in the living room and it does not keep the kitchen cool when it's 85 degrees outside.
A bbq grill would have been nice!
I have rented many houses through vrbo and home away and this is the 1st time that I did not receive an informative email with information about the house. I had to ask how to get the key!

When you booked. You had asked if there were cookie sheets in the cottage which I offered you. I haven't had people complain about it not being well equipped before. We have a large spice rack, bowls, knives, pots and pans - a dishwasher, etc. I would have given you whatever you need from the mainhouse as our doors are 60 feet away from each other.
As for the bathroom my husband had taken apart the trap in the tub before you arrived because it was draining slowly. We did notice that there are some wear areas in the tub enclosure but it was clean.
The TV runs on Apple TV - you can get Netflix's and HBO by making the selection. We pay for both.
You were here when it was quite hot. The AC probably would not cool
the kitchen if you were baking a lot. If you had opened the door to the garage some of the heat would of vented there.
I did notice that when you left I entered the house and it smelled like onions. I opened the doors and lit a candle to try to get rid of the smell. Kathy our housekeeper came in and I mentioned the smell and she ran and got the Frebreeze. We finished cleaning and closed up the house for the next guest to come in the afternoon.
When the next guest came in they had to open all the windows and air it out again... You had left the gas burner on in the morning before leaving and that was the sulfur/onion smell we were getting. Both Kathy and I didn't think to check the gas on the stove. You left us with a hazardous situation which was upsetting.

Nice place overall. Good working appliances and A/C.
A few observations and comments. The following 5 items are fact and not opinion.
1. Kitchen ceiling fan blades interfere with 2 cabinet doors. Also fan lights are too low allowing tall guests to hit their heads. Hazardous condition.
2. The single smoke detector did not work.
3. The shower control is reversed. Hot water should be on the left and cold on the right.
4. Although there was plenty of closet space, there were no dressers or chests to store clothing. Living out of a suitcase is not ideal while on vacation.
5. An electrical cord attached to a lamp in the living room is being pinched by a cabinet door creating a dangerous electrical condition.
Comment: The exterior of the property needs a lot of work. The owners may be overwhelmed due to size of the property but should take steps to make improvements.
The location is great, the cottage cozy with enough space for 4 adults (not sure 6 would be comfortable), but there are a few reasons I gave the review a 4:
1) the hot water is so hot my husband got literal burns doing dishes not realizing the water would get that hot
2) When we arrived there were no lights anywhere. The lanterns on the stone wall by the road werent on, the porch light wasnt on, at least one inside light wasnt on. It was very dark and hard to see.
3) So SO much furniture for such a tiny place. There was furniture in every doorway making getting around the cottage very awkward. We ended up moving things to get through doorways and none of us are fat.
4) Poor arrival instructions. The welcome email does not state how to get a key (the front door was left open), or how to connect to wifi (I had to email for password). There was also no exit instructions. We did the dishes and took the trash out, which really for a $300 cleaning fee was good enough in our opinion.
4) More blankets for the beds now that it is colder would be nice. Or a throw or two for the couches to snuggle up and watch TV would be good.
But overall the stay was excellent. There is laundry on property making cleaning easy. It is close to Rt 8 making getting around CT very easy.
The property owner is very communicative, so if there’s an issue she responds quickly (we had no issue beyond not knowing the door would be left open and not knowing the wifi PW).
Also, they get a half star for having a naughty lightswitch which I appreciated. David is one of my favorite statues.
Thanks for the great stay :)

Thank you for the suggestions regarding the cottage.
The cottage was the perfect little escape from NYC. Cozy fireplace, clean interior, fully stocked kitchen and a yard for the pooch. Faye went out of her way to help with any questions - even cleaning off my car when a snowstorm hit.
Our stay was very nice and the owners were very communicative and flexible when the trip needed to be adjusted by a day due to a power outage in the entire area (tropical storm came through prior to arrival). The fenced yard was great for our dog, though it is just off a busy road so there is some traffic noise at peak time.
Beds were super comfortable and fully equipped kitchen.
Our three day stay here did not disappoint.
Owners responded quickly to some minor irrelevant issues.

I’ve contacted the guest as I believe he didn’t know how to use the application to rate the property. Paul helped him with a fireplace issue. He was fine guest.
We were in the area for a 50th high school reunion. The cottage was exactly what was presented. It was comfortable, clean and homey. A wonderful New England experience. Pretty peaceful surroundings.
