3-Bedroom RENOVATED 130m2 House In The Old Town

Sofia’s house is a two-level venetian building (130 square meters) of traditional architecture, built in the 1600s. It was renovated with great inspiration and respect, preserving its original look. The stone walls and the wooden ceilings were kept as they originally were, in order to offer you the real sensation of living in a traditional Cretan style home.

The whole house consists of 3 bedrooms, (the first with a double bed and the other two with 2 single beds each), 1 bathroom with shower, 1 WC, a fully equipped kitchen and a sitting room with a sofa-bed. It can sleep up to 5 or 6 persons. The house has a big veranda and a small balcony on the first floor, a main kitchen area and a private yard on the ground level.

It offers all kinds of facilities, a/c, satellite TV, 2 TV sets, fully equipped kitchen, vdish washer, washing-machine, iron, iron board, hair dryer etc. We can provide a full sized cot at no charge upon request. Most of the house’s furniture is traditional.

Tolle, super freundliche und hilfsbereite Gastgeberin, gute Kommunikation auf English. Das Haus liegt in einer ruhigen Gasse am Anfang des historischen Altstadtkerns. Das alte Haus ist liebevoll renoviert und freundlich eingerichtet, die Küche komplett ausgestattet, wie überhaupt an alles gedacht war, was einen Aufenthalt erleichtert. 3 schöne Schlafzimmer, eine tolle Dachterasse. auf der wir zwei süsse „Besuchskatzen“ hatten.

Der ideale Standort für einen Urlaub auf Kreta!

Wenn Sie einen Urlaub auf Kreta planen, dann ist Rethymno definitiv der beste Ausgangspunkt, um die Insel zu erkunden. Es ist die quirligste, interessanteste und netteste Ort (wir waren 3 Wochen auf Kreta und haben von Westen bis Osten eine große Vielzahl von Orten besucht), der auch nach einer Woche immer noch genügend Abwechslung mit seiner wunderbaren Altstadt, den vielen guten Restaurants, Stränden, dem Hafen als Ausgangspunkt für Tagestouren und mit seiner zentralen Lage Startpunkt für Touren auf der Insel bietet. Das Haus liegt bestens! Es befindet sich in einer ruhigen Seitenstraße mitten in der Altstadt. In 3 Minuten kann von hier aus eintauchen in die lebendige Altstadt mit ihren vielen kleinen Geschäften und engen Gassen, der Festung und den Tavrnen. Zum Strand sind es rund 12-16 Minuten. Ein öffentlicher, kostenfreier Parkplatz befindet sich in 5 Gehminuten Entfernung zum Haus (in die Gassen der Altstadt kann man mit dem Auto nicht hinein). Das Haus ist wunderschön mit alten Bruchsteinen und authentischem Mobiliar, schönen und gut aufgeteilten Räumen, einem kleinen Hof und einer tollen Terrasse. Hervorzuheben ist vor allem Maria Liandri, die sich nicht nur um die Schlüsselübergabe und saubere Handtücher / Betten kümmert, sondern uns mit ihrer herzlichen Art als willkommene Gäste fühlen ließ. Im Kühlschrank erwarteten uns Brot, Marmelade, Obst und Gemüse aus Kreta. Kaffee, Salz, Zucker und vor allem das von Marias Familie hergestellte native Olivenöl standen bereit. Wir (Familienurlaub) haben uns ausgesprochen wohl gefühlt und können dieses wunderbare Haus nur jedem empfehlen, der Kreta kennenlernen möchte.

Very quaint comfortable house ideally situated for old town in Rethynmon

We have recently returned from a lovely week staying in Sophia’s house. Perfect for 2 couples & 5 mins to the restaurants of the old town. 10-15 minutes walk to the beach. Maria couldn’t have been more hospitable, helpful & generous. We were greeted with an array of food including breakfast foods, fruit & salad, a whole cooked chicken as well as a copious supply of Raki. Would highly recommend if you want to be in the centre of Rethynmon.

Delightful house in wonderful location

We have just returned from a week in Rethymno staying in Maria's lovely house. We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. It is full of charm and character, well equipped and very clean and comfortable. The location is fantastic, just a few minutes walk to a wide variety of bars, restaurants, shops and the harbour. Despite such a convenient location, it is a quiet place to stay. Maria is a wonderful, kind, thoughtful and welcoming host. She replied quickly to any queries beforehand. She filled the fridge with milk, bread, tomatoes, ham, cheese, grapes as well as raki and limoncello and as we arrived late, had also ordered a pizza for us to make sure that we had something to eat. She kept in touch throughout our stay and made sure that she came to say goodbye on our last day. We had a wonderful holiday and would thoroughly recommend this property. We hope to come back.

A perfect retreat in the heart of Crete

We have had a wonderful stay in Crete and based ourselves in Rethymnon. The house was perfectly placed in the centre of the old Venetian town. This ensured there was easy walking access to all the main areas of interest: Fortress; old town; parks; harbour; shopping; cafes and tavernas. We hired a car and could park very close by- this enabled us to explore the area further and we enjoyed beaches, coves, hillside monastery, villages, Knossos. The house itself has all amenities needed to be self sustained if you wish: kitchen and cooking/dining facilities; laundry; comfortable bedrooms with all linen included; bathrooms with towels; sun patio with furniture; TV and wifi etc etc. The pictures don't reflect the size of the property which is far more spacious than it appears. The best aspect of all is Maria the owner, she is the epitome of Cretan hospitality and genuinely wishes to ensure you have all that you need to feel comfortable and at home. As other reviews have stated there was an evening meal waiting on our arrival with all the basics stocked in the fridge to get us going- milk, bread, eggs, meat/cheese, butter. Even fresh figs and later in the week a surprise homemade cake- this was beyond all expectation. Maria is a warm and kind person and I feel a friend of the family by the end of our stay. She has another smaller property on the southern side of Crete that also looks great and I hope will be as successful for her as this one. So, go ahead and book now.....you will not be disappointed!

Character House in the old town of Rethymno

Maria the owner was fantastic. She was the most hospitable host we have ever had and we have rented in England and other places in the world. The fridge was full, she made us a cake, she photocopied things for us, we had her family olive oil and when we stupidly struggled to use the key she came over immediately to help us out. A lovely woman who was helpful throughout. The cottage was great, it was well equipped and spacious with a patio and large veranda for eating on or sunbathing on. It is in the old part of town so you feel you are living there and not just a tourist. It was dead centre for everything. Only 2 mins to the centre of town, 5 to the harbour and 15 min walk to the beach. For those who need it there is wifi and in the bedrooms air con which was bliss as in July/August when we stayed it was hot. Rethymno is a lovely town, pretty to walk about in with many alleyways to explore. The Greek people were helpful and always polite. We had a great holiday with Maria and thoroughly recommend a stay at Sofia's.

Fantastic property in the heart of the old town

My husband and I stayed here for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is beautiful -very old with lovely original features and very nicely furnished and well equipped. It was fantastic to be staying right in the beautiful and atmospheric old town. The house is very centrally located - within walking distance to everything in Rethymno with lots of great tavernas close by. We hired a car so we could see a bit more of Crete and it was easy to park it just a few streets away. Maria is a wonderful host and could not have been more welcoming. She really went above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay which we very much appreciated. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely house and hope to return.

Ein Traum für authentischen Urlaub

Sofias House ist genau das, was wir uns unter einem authentischen Urlaub vorgestellt haben. Ein Original Haus, liebevoll restauriert und hergerichtet, mitten in der Altstadt von Rethymno. Wir waren als Familie mit 2 Erwachsenen und 2 Kindern zu Gast und es war wirklich großzügig. Die BEschreibung der Wohnung auf der Homepage ist sehr korrekt, die Bilder geben aber nicht die ganze Schönheit das hauses wieder. Gerade der Innenhof ist so zauberhaft, aber auf Fotos leider nicht darzustellen. Maria, die Vermieterin ist ein Schatz. Bei unser Ankunft war der Kühlschrank gut gefüllt mit griechischen Leckereien, die wir in unserer Woche gar nicht alle geschaft haben. Wenn es irgendwo Fragen oder Sorgen gab war Maria immer erreichbar und sofort zur Stelle. Die Nachbarschaft war sehr nett, wir fühlten uns sehr wilkommen und haben die Zeit sehr genossen. Eine klare Empfehlung. Viele Grüße aus Görlitz

Sophie's House

and the town of Rethymnon were first rate for our 4 days and would have been excellent for a much longer visit. Maria, our hostess, is a lovely person who went the extra mile. Among the dozens of apartments and gites we've stayed in in Europe, mostly France, this ranks right up at the top. Everything imaginable furnished. Bedroom upstairs tougher for some folks but a divan downstairs could be used as a single bed. Town offers congenial walks, tavernas, and very good restaurants in the old town where we stayed. Everyone quite helpful. Fine people. Tough language but easy to learn to say hello, thanks, and you're welcome. Excellent for a Rick Steves type of traveler. Bad for an incurious and imperious sort of American traveler who really prefers to eat at American restaurants and good old American food. (sic)

Miss it already...

We spent 13 days in Rethymnon, and loved both the house and this part of the old town, but most of all; Maria the owner was so kind, warm hearted and welcoming that it made our stay the best holiday ever! From the booking process till we left - she was always doing what she could to make our stay as comfy as possible. Thank you, Maria, for letting us rent your lovely renovated house, for your kindness (olive oil, figs, raki,...), for you being so warm hearted, sweet and service minded. The best accommodation I've ever stayed in. Beautiful home and could easily have stayed much longer. Maria is a wonderfull woman, she took time out to take us out for the day and brought eggs, juice and raki. Her familys olive oil is the best! Loved it!

My friends and I loved the house! It is a huge house, clean, tidy, with traditional furniture. The walls are original, made of stone and the ceiling was wooden. We sunbathed on the terrace every day and had breakfast there too. We could cook as well, as we could find all the necessary equipment in the big kitchen. There was hot water all day long and could have a shower at any time of the day. We are planning to come back very soon! A.M. - T.D. - B.M.

Fantastic!

We spent unforgettable vacation in Sofia’s house. Sofia’s house is located in the heart of the old town of Rethymno, near plenty of shops, restaurants, markets and also within walking distance to the beaches. The house has been recently renovated, is very charming and has everything to feel as being at home. It is also equipped with WiFi, which was very convenient. And the owner of the house, Maria, created a wonderful atmosphere, welcoming us as family members and helping us for any question! We enjoyed our vacation so much that will surely be back in the future! Dear Maria, thanks again for the great vacation we had! Love from Paris!

Perfect!

We had the honour of being the first cutomers back in the summer of 2011 (the calendar didn't show that year so I selected something random). The house was charming and the location best you can hope for; a quiet street with local residents, but just around the corner you can find the restaurants, bars and shops. Apart from being the best value for money, the best thing in the house was the hostess Maria. What a charming and warm person! We never expected the kind of treatment we got. We would have been perfectly satisfied with accommondation, but on top of that we gained a friend and lovely memories. We are definitely going back.

FANTASTISK STED. her får man alt!

Svært at finde et andet sted hvor man får ALT hvad man kan ønske sig. Bor midt i den gamle bydel, uden biler. Stort charmerende renoveret hus, med flere terresser mulighed for at ligge på drømmesengen i solen i fred og ro og alligevel tæt på en skøn gammel by med masser af liv. Få min til bussen, til stranden, til borgen, altså ingen grund til at leje en bil. Derudover en værtinde der i den grad går op i ens velbefindende og gør alt for at man får en god ferie. Vi boede 2 personer i huset men med både et badeværelse i stueetagen og toilet på første salen er der rigtig god plads til 5-6 personer uden man bor for tæt. Knus til Maria fra Denmark Eva

Lovely house in the old town of Rethymno

Sophias House is located in the old town of Rethymnon, surrounded by small alleys and venezian buildings, It is a lovely decorated place where lots of effort has been put in details that make the house feel very homy. Maria welcomed us with open arms and a warm heart. This was also supported by a welcome drink (local Raki) as well as fruits and vegetables from Marias families farm. We felt very well treated and welcome! The house was extremely clean and the kitchen contained everthing you need for cooking your own meal, best with ingredients from the local markets. There are a few bakery, mini markets and lots of small tavernas with local food nearby. Please note, that you can't drive to the house directly as the street is very narrow and only for pedestrians. However, parking places can be found west of the house, which is only a 2 minute walk to the house. We definitely recommend Sophias House and would come back anytime! Maria, you're a great host! Just the perfect accommodation!

Me and my friends had a fantastic time! The house is in a quiet street of the old town where all the shops and restaurants and bars are very close. We had privacy and enjoyed our breakfast at the lovely terrace every morning. An night we could enjoy our drink or beer at the terrace too. There is an open-air-market nearby too, where we could buy fresh local products, like cheese, tomatoes, grapes and much more... The owner, Maria, is a lovely young lady too! She was really nice to us and helped us very much with everything! My friends and I want to live at Sofia's House for ever if possible! Maybe it is a little difficult, but the next time we visit Rethymno, we will definitely try to stay at Sofia's for more than one week. I hope to see you again next year, my darling Maria! Au revoir!

AMAZING VILLA!! We felt like living in a PALACE!!

We spent a wonderful week at Sofia's House last September!!!!! The house is so well decorated and so carefully renovated, that you have the impression that you live in a local palace of the 19th century!!! You can find everything there, and even the kitchen is so equipped that we didn't have to eat out every day. Maria and her family are really kind and helpful!!! They even provided us with fresh fruit and vegetables from their garden!!! If I were the owner, I would definitely raise the price per night, but the owners try to keep the price low, so that every guest can afford to stay in a PALACE like this!!!!! We will definitely come back in the future!!! Thank you for this wonderful and unforgetable holiday !!!!!!!!!!!!

Brilliant place in a beautiful town

We enjoyed a delightful and restful stay in Sofia's House in September 2012. The house is situated in the heart of the old Venetian Quarter of Rethymno. We loved being among the locals, within walking distance to many interesting shops and excellent restaurants nearby. Sofia's House itself is a nicely refurbished charming old timbered building with a modern terrace for sun-bathing and a cool interior. For us the house's wi-fi was an added bonus. Maps of the town and the island, books added to a welcoming atmosphere. The landlady was very helpful giving us useful tips about the area, beaches, ferry bookings etc. We would recommend Sofia's House to all discerning visitors to Crete as well as its lovely landlady Maria who was both friendly and generous.

Wonderful place for family vacation

We are glad we used HomeAway service to find this beautiful place. We really enjoyed our stay at Sofia's House and were happy to meet the owner Mrs Maria. She took a really good care of us providing us with the goods from her father's farm. She was very kind to us and we became good friends with her. For a family of five this house was more than enough. It is beautiful and gives a feeling of a medieval castle and in the same time it's convenient in terms of the ac and all the utilities. It is located in a center of the old town within a walking distance to the most parts of Rethymnon. And although parking is not available near the house, there are many places around to park and we never had a problem during this season. Once again, we are excited and recommend this property to anyone who likes to rest and travel. We want to go back there again in the future!

Sofia's House: Try it by yourself!!!!

My husband and I stayed with our 2 children (14 and 16) for one week in Sofia's house. We had a lovely time in Crete. In one minute you walk from the house into the streets of Rethymon with lots of tavernas and little shops. And of course we eat at an restaurant in the old haven. The beach is not far away, it is easy to walk. Maria brought us, just like the other reviewers has written, eggs, handmade cookies, olive oil ..... She made sure we had everything we needed, including some food and lemon and milk for the first day (we arrived in the night of saturday). We have stayed in a lot of houses on our holidays, but Sofia's house is one of the bests. We will come back in the future, for sure!!!!!! Thanx a lot Maria! Edithe

Wish I could live here!

My husband and I had been traveling for close to 4 months and decided that we wanted to go somewhere that was in off season for a week or two. I'd spent a month on Crete in that past and loved it! We found Sofia's House and immediately started daydreaming about our quiet week to come. Sofia's House is a newly renovated 300 year old family property. It had belonged to Maria's father and recently been renovated to be used as a rental. Sofia's House is situated in the old town of Rethymnon. It is a minute walk to lots of tavernas and shops but not on a busy street, so it was quiet at night. The kitchen was great for cooking and hanging out. Maria brought us beautiful oranges and fresh eggs from her father's hens. She made sure we had everything we needed, including sending us our ferry and bus information for the duration of our time on Crete. I can't express enough how nice our week was at Sofia's House. Crete is an amazing island any time of the year. The prices on everything drops significantly during off season. So if a nice quiet holiday is what you're after, go in off season and stay at Sofia's House! We're already daydreaming about our next visit!
