About this property

Carrowcullen, The Old Irish Farmhouse

Carrowcullen is an 1880s stone farmhouse, set on the Wild Atlantic Way in the Ox Mountains amongst 14 acres of unspoiled pastures. It has been assessed by Failte Ireland to meet the Welcome Standard. It offers guests a 'walk-back-in-time' experience while meeting modern comforts. Guests enter the farmhouse through the centre door leading into the kitchen. The parlour and sitting rooms are on either side of the kitchen on the ground floor and both have log burners. On the first floor are a master double bedroom with sink, a twin bedroom with sink, a single room, and a bathroom with cast iron bath and over bath shower on the first floor. On the ground floor the traditional kitchen's modern appliances are hidden as part of the walk-back-in-time experience. The kitchen's facilities are: gas cooker, under-counter fridge with small freezer compartment, small dishwasher, an original oak table with tuck under chairs, a central island (containing the under-counter fridge/freezer) and large butler's sink. Under the stairs and off the kitchen, there is a cloakroom (toliet and sink). The sitting room has a toliet and sink behind a screen to accommodate guests who might find the original steep staircase a challenge. The farmhouse is set well back from a quiet country lane on a private lane which connects to a forestry lane and the country road, offering a quiet short 'loop' stroll. One of the Sligo walking trails is minutes away . The local beaches Dunmoran Strand and Aughris Head are located within a short drive. Local shops offer produce and fuel (Collery's in Beltra and Adabrone in Dromore and on Saturday mornings in season Beltra Market offers fresh vegetables, food, eggs, baked goods and crafts. Carrowcullen is a working farm; pets must be booked in advance and subject to additional charges. Wifi throughout the house; small tv with satellite and dvd player. Linens and towels provided.

Back to the eighties
Beautiful well preserved house. Very nice landlady/ owner, great hospitality. The house expires a authentic athmosphere of the past. Great for music, art and literature with piano and library. Very quiet besides some sheep, interesting walks into the Ox mountains. Mind your head within the house.

Sehr nette Vermieterin. Alles wunderbar, wir hatten einen erholsamen Urlaub. Vielen Dank.

A hidden gem
Wow! A museum in itself. So much character in the cottage. It has the most warming atmosphere. Trudy is a true gem, with many a tale to tell. The work she has done on the cottage is perfect. Located away from the main road. You here the sheep, the birds and the rustle if the trees. The early morning mist over the mountains is stunning. With beaches not far and the Irish air it's a place to experience. All ready booked for the summer. A huge thank you Trudy.

1880s farmhouse
You will feel like you went back in time at this farmhouse. Trudy is lovingly restoring it, using materials authentic to the time, from the pull chain WC to the farmhouse sink. We can’t wait to come back and see the progress she’s made with the rest of the grounds.
