Stayed 9 nights and had a great time. Clean, private, well equipped, close to town. Rustic cottage feel. Great views out the large windows. Plenty to do in the area. Hoping to come back next year!
Have to confess we missed the tv
Found fireplace useful-very chilly in am
Few repairs needed-some that had been done were a bit shoddy
Overall a great cabin
A Hidden Gem on the Brad d’Or Lakes - The perfect family escape. We absolutely loved our stay at this charming rustic cottage!! It’s the ideal spot to unplug, relax & make lasting memories. The space is warm and welcoming, witha. Smart layout that easily fits multiple families without feeling crowded. Rain day ? No problem there is plenty of room for games and cosy hangouts. Check out the cupboard full of games let the smiles and laughter flow. The location is unbeatable: Just minutes from Baddeck, yet surrounded by trees and right in the lake, it feels like your own private retreat. The yard is gorgeous, the swimming & boating was amazing, and honestly … none of us wanted to leave. Highly recommend for anyone looking to recharge and reconnect!
Large cottage perfect for families. Rustic but very comfortable and clean. My boys loved exploring the rooms and playing with the board games. The views of the water were stunning. The owner was great at communicating and always a text away. Our only issue was backing our 21 foot boat into the driveway. Otherwise it was a wonderful vacation! Perfect for large families!

Thank you for coming and enjoying our family Lakeside Boathouse Cottage.
We are widening and redoing the driveway this month so it will be ready for you to return next year if you can ! Thanks for being a great guest.
We thoroughly enjoy our stay at the cottage. Jan is the perfect hostess. She was always available to answer any questions and offer additional details about the cottage and the area. The cottage is in a perfect, private location. It is large and offers tons of comfortable open communal living and private sleeping areas with super comfy beds. My grandchildren, 8 and 10 years old, loved it. Although, the kitchen isn’t large it was equiped with everything you could possibly need. We were very pleased with our choice.
When I imagine a cottage in my mind, this is the kind of place I think of - simple construction, exposed framing well-built but rustic. It is magical! There is so much history in the walls of this converted boat house right on the shore of Bras d'Or Lake. Thoughtfully laid out, it provided much privacy for all of us as well as lake views from each bedroom (with the exception of the 2 bunk rooms.) The beds were all quite comfortable. Built in window seats throughout the cottage were perfect for curling up with a book or for sitting with coffee while contemplating the lake.I particularly appreciated the original artwork done by various family members over the years. The kitchen was adequately supplied with what we needed to prepare meals. And it was an easy and quick drive along the lakeshore to the town of Baddeck where we shopped for groceries and found several good restaurants and cafés.A private dock, lots of Adirondack chairs, a hammock, and a lovely deck with picnic table and grill all made being outside lovely. Swimming was so refreshing! I hope to return to this amazing spot!
Our visit was very good. The directions and directions for entering were spot on (except the wasps and horse flies which you have no control over) i know it has probably been mentioned about maybe installing heat pumps for more comfort during the hot days of summer. other than that we had beautiful weather, good food and good friends to spend time with, could not have asked for much more
Thanks from my family and I for the experience..
Have a great day

Wonderful base for a family celebration!
Our three-generation family celebrated our 50th anniversary at the Lakeside Boat Cottage, and it was a wonderfully comfortable place for all of us to relax in the cushioned wicker furniture and window seats, cook in the well-equipped kitchen, eat together at a table accommodating us all, and sleep in beautifully furnished and comfortable bedrooms. It was also a conveniently central location to the various activities we wanted to take in, from the western side of the Cabot Trail to Ft. Louisbourg in the east. It is beautifully situated with great views of the lake and made a lovely setting for our family photo shoot. We also swam from the dock and the pebble beach and enjoyed the hammock and outdoor chairs.
Since I, Grandma, did the booking, I was delighted when our children thanked me for finding such a great place! They loved the outdoor views upon arrival, and they commented on how the interior decor and presence of family photos made us all feel like we were sharing a much-loved family home rather than a generic place furnished from the big box stores. Jan, my contact person, was extremely helpful from the start, quickly answering all my questions, sending me a map of Cape Breton and activity brochures, and providing porta-cribs and an activity saucer for our 14 month old and 8 month old grandsons. They along with our 3 year old grandson all enjoyed the wonderful array of toys available. The mothers of these little boys were especially grateful for the washer and dryer in the cottage, which they used daily.
The housekeeper was available for any questions we had upon arrival, and she responded quickly and helpfully while giving us our privacy. One of the owners was living in the house next-door, and he also greeted us and was helpful but in no way intrusive. He shared a little of the history of the cottage in their family, which added to our sense of a family-friendly atmosphere. We felt well supported by those with local knowledge throughout our stay.
I would not hesitate to highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a quiet but accessible base for their Cape Breton visit. I'm sure you will find it delightfully comfortable and enjoyable, as we did.

We are so glad you all explored our island and found our cottage comfortable for your family stay! Let us add our congrats for a 50th anniversary! Please return anytime .
I traveled with a friend and 5 of my grand children. After covid shut down I thought it would be nice to connect. We picked this place because of its solitude. We toured the Cabot trail and had a wonderful swim in the ocean. Baddeck was 5 mins down the road so easy access to restaurants and unique stores! We fished at the cottage and released, but so enjoyed our time together. Went whale watching and enjoyed seeing them so much!
The cottage it's self had very comfy beds and was well equipped.
I would say we had a wonderful time and would love to rent again! 😊
Having 5 teens I would suggest maybe a paddle boat, kayak and canoe. Just for the down times and to let them explore.
Hoping to return next year! Thank you Jan.
This lovely property is in a beautiful, serene, and quiet location only a few minute drive from Baddeck. The house has rustic charm and is well maintained and all details are carefully attended to. It's an uninsulated structure, so will get warm during a hot day, but even in July it cools off nicely at night. No AC but plenty of fans and operational windows. If you have your own boats/paddleboards/watercraft this would be a great property to rent. If you don't (we did not) it's just a beautiful setting to enjoy. In the middle of July there was little activity on the lake, and you can barely see the next house down the lake, so it feels like a completely private setting. There are lots of sleeping spaces and rooms with doors so its easy to have some privacy, along with a really great main gathering space with dining table and windows facing the lake. Kitchen is small but completely functional. There's even an outdoor shower!
Jan, the host, was a pleasure to deal with and responsive via text and offered much helpful advice.
Our family really enjoyed being in this home for our summer holiday.
Plenty of room, great views on the lake, good swimming in a cute town with good restaurants. Centrally located for cape breton activities. Jan is a great host and communicates well. Highly recommend. Our family loved it
We had 3 generations staying in this lovely cottage. It really felt like a home, not a generic rental. Beds and bedding were comfortable. Location is very convenient to Baddeck and points NE. Loved the dock, through the water was still too cold for us the first week of July.
We just wanted to stay all summer!
We stayed at Jan's spot for a week the end of June and had a wonderful time. A very comfy spot that is rustic (a nice tradtional cottage feel), but well stocked. Right on the lake for swimming and other activities. Jan is a wonderful host who made the booking experience easy and stayed in contact us during the trip.
We had a great experience at this property. The cottage is much larger than expected with more than enough room for 4 adults and 3 pre-teens.
It was so convenient to have onsite laundry and we made use of the outdoor shower after spending time on the beach and lake. We didn’t need anything except our clothes and food!
The location is fantastic - very private but minutes from Baddeck and the perfect location to start your day whether you’re doing the trail or going to Sydney.
Hosts were great and responded quickly to any questions we had.
We enjoyed their this rustic boathouse very much with it's ample space to relaxe and spend time as a family, it's peaceful surroundings, location and the dock access to swim on warmer days. The kitchen is well stocked. The owner even provided an extra item we had enquired about in advance. A small issue was quickly resolved by the owner. The caretaker was readily available. Should we come back to visit Cape Breton, we would certainly look the boathouse up to rent it again if available.
We had a fantastic time here - truly a family cottage stay. Located very close to Baddeck (on the same road on which Alexander Graham Bell lived!) means groceries, coffee shops, and places to eat etc are easy to access. We were also near many trails/waterfall hikes.
The cottage itself has loads of space for our two families (including 4 teen boys)- two living room areas (with huge window seats and a view and one with a cozy fire place on cooler evenings), lots of beds (could accommodate two families of four and a set of grandparents comfortably), two baths with separate water heaters, and space to be together or separate, inside and out. The owners Jan and Reid were lovely, quickly responding to our few questions, and the caretakers are nearby if you need them (e.g. for more firewood!).
Great location for paddleboarding (a schooner and a ferry wreck to spot!) and relaxing by the water or on the deck.
We would recommend, and definitely come back. Thank you Jan and Reid!
Excellent communication with owner and caretaking staff. Cottage spacious and lovely, more rustic than expected, but great for a relaxing group vacation
The lake house was a perfect spot for our family getaway! The house is set up nicely so that even with 8 adults you have more then enough space . The owners were very helpful and quick to reply to any questions. The lakefront on this property is very beautiful and made for a very relaxing week away. Location provided good starting point for exploring Cape Breton. Would highly recommend!
