The cottage was lovely, very cosy and inviting. We spent a week exploring the area and enjoying the local walks. Thornton-le-Dale, Pickering and Helmsley were all interesting places to spend some time in. All in all we had a lovely peaceful week's stay.
This house is a perfect getaway, supplied with everything you would need for a short or long stay, including comfortable beds! The home makes a perfect base to explore surrounding attractions such as York, Pickering and Dalby Forest. However it's also within walking distance to many shops and restaurants and has a beautiful garden for dining and relaxing. Highly recommend!
I absolutely loved this place. I think Tom and Nina must have lived in it before letting it out, because there were many thoughtful touches that wouldn't necessarily occur to owners just setting up a rental property de novo. I'm only sorry not to have met them, because I was left with the feeling that they must be very warm and welcoming people. My only (very minor) plaint was that the back garden looks a bit neglected.
Visited Stone Cottage at the weekend (returning guest).
Cottage was as wonderful as ever, cosy, warm and inviting.
Contains everything that you need.
Looking forward to returning in the future.
We stayed for a short 7 day break in September , the cottage is in a pretty village with some pleasant walks and local shops to browse , it bustles but is generally unspoilt by tourism , Whitby, York and the Moors are within easy reach of whatever your preference is , history or walking /cycling and so on
The cottage is well equipped , alot of thought has gone into making it comfortable without over cluttering it , chromecast TV and wifi are available for the evenings, a nice touch , I cook alot and the kitchen is easy for this without without the cupboards and drawers being stuffed with pots and pans/cutlery , you can find what you need without causing an avalanche or digging around in an overstuffed cutlery draw full of mismatched scrap metal ! its a thing for me
Nina is a pleasure to deal with, informative to just the right amount , no fuss or petty rules , just lets you relax and get on with enjoying a well deserved break
Overall we loved the place and will definitely book it again in future
We loved our stay at Stone Cottage. The owners had thought of pretty much everything you would need to make our stay with a young family comfortable and easy. There was steps and seats in the toilet for young children, plastic crockery and cutlery, washing facilities for all those clothes and Netflix all set up to keep them entertained. Was so easy to make it our home from home for two weeks.
The cottage is surprisingly roomy, especially the bedrooms - however, be aware that it's a beautiful but old property and the ceilings are very low (didn't bother us we're short).
It's placed just on the outskirts of Thorton Le Dale and a short walk from a lively little village, with lots going on and places to eat.
It was a great place to base our holiday, we were only about 30 minutes - 1 hours from most places of interest, like York, the North Yorkshire Stream train, Whitby Bay, Dalby Forest and lots of lovely beaches and bikes rides/walks. Would come again if we wanted to holiday in the area again. Well recommended!
Wow, what a fabulous little cottage. We (2 adults and our son aged 9) had a fantastic adventurous 3 days. Firstly the cottage is lovely - modern, clean and perfectly cosy. We took our bikes and cycled to nearby Dalby Forest - definitely recommend going through the fields rather than the road, which we did on the first day up a very very steep hill. We also enjoyed a morning in the trees at Go Ape, again thoroughly recommend if you’re ok with heights. We ate out in Thornton le Dale on a couple of nights and enjoyed our return back to the cottage in front of the fire. On the way home we stopped at Sutton Bank and enjoyed more cycling. All in all a fabulous getaway, in a lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. We’ll certainly be back for more adventure 😊
Lovely, comfortable and well equipped cottage. Very helpful host with lots of suggestions and ideas for things to do and places to go. Only there for a short two night stay but we are already planning on returning for a longer stay.
We stayed as 2 adults, a 3 year-old and a 5 year-old for 2 weeks.
Clean and smart. Comfy beds. Plenty of storage. Well equipped - cookware, washing line and big freezer were handy. Lovely village. Decent size secure garden. Welcoming flowers, pro secco and biscuits on arrival. We were always able to park on the street outside within a few houses away. Check in and out were with a key safe so we didn't meet owners but they were helpful on email. Wifi worked fine.
Beware of low ceilings downstairs: my husband is 6'1", he just about fitted under the ceilings but couldn't tip his head back to drink without banging it on beams, he had to duck under the doorways.
This beautiful cottage was clean, modern and perfectly located for a fantastic holiday. Communication from the owner couldn't have been better and we really felt that everything had been done to make our holiday experience a special one. We'll be back!
Stayed in this gorgeous cottage for a long weekend in Thornton Le Dale which is a great base for NY Moors and the coast. Contact and instructions from the owner was great and provided plenty of info. The cottage was very comfortable and decorated beautifully. Would definitely recommend a stay here!
Excellent property, exactly as advertised. The property was exactly what we needed, a change of scenery was very welcome. Plenty of storage for bikes, well stocked kitchen, and a lovely walk to cafes, restaurants and pubs in lovely Thornton Le Dale. Nina was a great host and communication has been the best ever received.
Everything was great, we would have used the garden more if the weather was better. A nice walk to the village for dinner each evening.

Why they chose this property
I (Nina) grew up in Thornton-Le-Dale and several of my family still live here, we come back to Thornton-le-Dale every few months as we can't stay away. We love exploring and walking in Dalby Forest and the kids absolutely adore playing in the clear waters of the Beck. Plus the pubs and cafes are excellent. We hope you love visiting Thornton-le-Dale as much as we do and that you find The Stone Cottage to be a relaxing home from home .
What makes this property unique
The Stone Cottage grabbed our attention as it was very unique being an original stone building with 18th Century features, light airy feel and an incredibly cosy place to snuggle up in front of the fire. Of course the private garden was also a massive draw for relaxing and evening barbecues.
