About this property

Roman Villa/portion for 6 guests/air con/large garden/pool/hot tub/8km to centre

This is my family home and I care for it together with my partner, Alex, and my lovely staff, Stefania, my housekeeper, her husband Paolo, and other lovely people. You will be renting a portion of the whole villa.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VILLA:
This is a beautiful and very special villa, a unique property where you will made to feel at home. It was originally a 1st Century AD Roman residence (there are archaeological remains in the upper garden that form part of the National Collection of Archeology in the archives of the Museo Altemps in the centre of Rome, near Piazza Navona). We have full historical documentation available for our guests. The Villa has undergone several changes, from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, through to the 18th Century, when the Villa became the hunting lodge of a Cardinal from the Torlonia family, hence the name Il Cardinale.

The main bedroom has a large double bed and en suite shower room. The other two double bedrooms share a bathroom. The bedrooms are air conditioned. The large garden and the pool are shared between guests.

We can organise transport and guided tours of the region, as well as wine tasting and restaurant booking on request (as extras).
A concierge service is also available on request (as an extra).

We have a swimming pool (fee of €30 per day), a hot tub (fee of €40 per day) to be shared during your stay either with the owners (if they are at home) or with other guests who might rent the bigger portion of the villa between 11 am and 5pm.

The upper floor opens onto a delightful garden with an ancient Roman archaeological area, complete with comfortable garden furniture, lights. There are several areas for outdoor eating under spectacular Roman pine trees. All around there are olive trees and wonderfully secluded areas of the garden.

Villa il Cardinale is ideal for lovers of style and space in the close vicinity of Rome. Own car needed. There is some public transport, two buses, 5 minutes walk away, and a train from the Settebagni station to Stazione Tiburtina and other stops in the centre of Rome only 7 minutes drive away. You may drive to Saxa Rubra where there is a train that reaches Piazzale Flaminio (next to Piazza del Popolo).

PLEASE NOTE that you are renting only a PORTION of the whole villa, an upstairs wing of the villa.

CANCELLATION POLICY
We prefer a strict cancellation policy because we want to be sure that whoever chooses Villa il Cardinale does it with commitment and enthusiasm, just as we ourselves welcome our guests.

"Meet Me in Rome", an American movie was filmed at the villa. Check out the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdP4D8ZCcjM

Exceptional stay in a beautiful villa

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Marina’s villa. She met us day of and in preparation of our stay, we had asked for some groceries to be obtained which she supplied. This helped us immensely when our toddler needed snacks. She was prompt in her replies and very professional throughout. The property is large and scenic, you do not feel like in your in the city until you see the skyline from the pool deck. Highly recommend and we would certainly book again!!!

Roman History & HerStory

Spoke with the property owner/manager Marina about her exquisite villa before we booked but our conversation quickly became a conversation between friends. My fiancé and I were welcomed with open arms and an open heart for our 4 day stay at Villa de Cardinale. The property has a fascinating story - built during the first century. The villa could be a museum. But there’s nothing stodgy or cold here. Modern amenities abound including a bidet in the en-suite in spacious master bedroom including a claw footed bathtub which could be warmed by the fireplace. We visited in August so the fire wasn’t lit. The villa is cool, comfortable and homey. We spent many hours in the adjacent garden and sat by the pool when we weren’t out shopping and seeing the sights. The villa feels as if it’s in the country - but it’s only a 10 minute drive down the via Salaria to the heart of Roma and the iconic sights - the Spanish steps, the Trevi fountain and shopping- via Veneto, via del Corso. etc. You’ll need a car or Uber/Lyft as public transportation is limited. Marina & her boyfriend Alex were wonderful hosts - giving us insights into Italian “don’t say buona notte” unless you’re on your way to bed - it’s always buona sera. There are no goodbyes here only inserisci testo- until we meet again.

Host profile image
I live between London and Rome, and take care of Villa il Cardinale in every detail, enjoying renting it out to our wonderful guests for their holidays, family reunions, or celebrations. I love Rome and am happy to share information on its history and also what it offers now as a tourist city. I am passionate about food and good wine, and am happy to offer cooking lessons. I am also a yoga instructor and will be pleased to offer yoga sessions on request to our guests during their stay.

Why they chose this property

This is a unique property, of great style, that will make you feel at home in luxury and will offer you a secluded stay away from the chaos of Rome, but close enough to be able to reach the city in 15 minutes.

What makes this property unique

Villa il Cardinale is absolutely unique in its style; we maintain it so that our guests can feel at home; we provide our guests with high quality linen, and all facilities are top class. We enjoy providing catering, meals, and breakfast on demand. We will support our guests with the maximum discretion, so that their vacation is memorable. We will be happy to add any services our guests might need during their stay. We are supported ourselves by extremely capable staff who will provide extra services such as a pizza night, or a party at the villa.
