About this property

Cottage With Studio Steps From Downtown New Buffalo And Beach

Our cottage is only half a block from downtown New Buffalo and an easy walk to Lake Michigan (3 blocks to water and 5 blocks to beach). You won't have to worry about beach parking or fighting for a spot at Redamaks or Stray Dog! Everything is a short walk away.

The cottage has two bedrooms--with a queen in one room and full/twin bunk beds in the second. In addition, the couch in the living room is a full futon, and the couch in the back porch folds into a full bed.

An unattached studio is outfitted with a very comfy daybed with a trundle that creates a full bed. Studio has electricity and internet.

The main cottage has two enclosed 3-season porches! A small one in front is the perfect place to read and relax. The enormous porch in back has floor-to-ceiling windows that allow you to take in the summer breeze while playing board games, watching a movie, or just enjoying the birds that flock to the backyard. An electric fireplace takes the chill off cool spring and fall evenings.

The cottage has 1.5 baths. The main bath has a walk in shower.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a double stove, dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, and plenty of counter space. A washer and dryer is located just off the kitchen.

The cottage has high-speed internet, a PS4 game station, a Wii, and you can easily access your Netflix, iTunes, and Amazon accounts from TVs in the living room and back porch.

The cottage is kid friendly and a great escape for adults, as well.

We've lived in New Buffalo since 2003 and know the area well. We'd be pleased to help you plan your stay. We know where all the best restaurants are--the places that don't require an hour wait! Please let us know if you have any questions!

About the area:

New Buffalo is the first beachside community in Michigan's Harbor Country, only 1 hour from Chicago. It has a beautiful public beach and a large marina that makes it a boater's paradise.

Within walking distance of the cottage, you can swim in beautiful Lake Michigan and rent boats, waterskis, kayaks and paddle boards. In the winter, snowmobiling and skiing is nearby.

New Buffalo has dozens of boutiques, spas, and restaurants. Nearby are breweries, wineries, and state parks, including Warren Dunes State Park.

The Outlet Mall of Michigan City is only 10 minutes away. And the cottage is only a mile from Four Winds Casino and 10 minutes from Blue Chip Casino.

We're also close to orchards and farms that offer the finest produce in the Midwest. New Buffalo hosts a large farmer's market from May thru October.

The cottage in near a large city park with tennis courts, a playground, sledding hill and ice rink.

Nice relaxing stay close to everything

We thoroughly enjoyed our extended weekend at Jennifer’s. We brought our dog who loved the fenced in yard for play time and the large room in the back is wonderful for relaxing in. We were able to walk to multiple restaurants and breweries and visited the dunes twice in 4 days. I would highly recommend this home to anyone, especially people with pets!

House needs major attention to the interior and exterior. Had to wash kitchen utensils before using. Inside needs thorough cleaning. Shrubs and weeds overgrown around house. Fenced back yard was overgrown and had old furniture. Would not recommend. Can provide photos if needed.

Ideal location & comfortable house!

We loved our stay at Jennifer’s property! The house was so comfortable and more than enough space for our group of 3. Everything was clean when we arrived and ready for us to settle in. We certainly appreciated all of the towels and how well equipped the kitchen was. The sunroom off the back was our favorite spot with both a dining table and a sitting/TV area. Loved that we had access to Netflix, Hulu, etc - always something to watch! The location of this house is ideal. We did not use our car once after arriving. Easy walk to town, all the restaurants, and the public beach. I would recommend a wagon if you have kids or are bringing a lot of gear to the beach. Jennifer provided great recommendations of things to do and places to eat during our stay, and we referred to them often. The property would definitely work great if you are bringing a dog, and we wish he had brought ours! Truly enjoyed our stay here and are looking forward to coming back next year!

Super cute cottage!!

This was one of the best places that we’ve stayed at! (All-in-all!) It was very clean and had a nice fenced in backyard (6ft privacy fence), which was great for our 2 Rotties! The beach was only a few minutes down the street and there were cute shops downtown too! Everything that you could need was supplied! From kitchen items to extra bedding and pillows! I highly recommend this cute cottage!! The neighborhood was quiet and very little traffic too! Communication with the owner was easy! We didn’t have any issues, so we only needed to communicate in the beginning and right before we checked out!

We loved our stay at Cape Cottage! It was the perfect home for our long weekend away with our two dogs. The Cottage was very roomy and had everything we could need for the weekend. The fenced-in backyard was an added bonus for our pups who loved the extra space to run around and play. The Cottage was also in a perfect location; easy to walk to local restaurants and breweries. Jennifer was an excellent host - quick to respond and plenty of great suggestions for things to do! Can't wait to stay again!

Great cottage in a perfect location!

The cottage was surprisingly bigger than it looked in the listing. The deck outside of the enclosed porch was a nice addition. It was well equipped and very nicely decorated! We utilized the studio cottage as an extra bedroom. Even though it is not air conditioned, it did not pose a problem for us while we were there. The location is excellent and within walking distance of restaurants, shopping, the grocery store, and the beach. Highly recommend staying here!

My family was in town for my niece's wedding and we rented several houses in and around New Buffalo. I have to say, we had the best place! Great location to everything we needed. The cottage is very clean, well furnished and extremely comfortable. The added bonus of the home being "dog friendly" was the cherry on top. We will definitely be back. Perfect house and location for a family

I wish I had video of the kids' reaction when they opened the front door to the house. When we first pulled up, they thought it was going to be a tiny house, based on the street view. They didn't realize how far back it went and all of the cool rooms it had to offer. They were literally screeching with excitement as they ran through the house. The back sun room was my wife's favorite place to sit and unwind. It was always the right temp (we had both cool and hot days during our stay) and the ambience was so relaxing. My wife isn't the type to just sit and chill out, but this room made her do just that. The house is well stocked with items you'll need for the beach (chairs, tent, towels, toys) and for relaxing (Netflix, PS4, books, board games, fire pit, etc) The location was nearly perfect. We walked to dinner almost every night. The grocery store was basically at the end of the street and we took advantage of that for buying breakfast and lunch that we could prepare in the cottage's nicely equipped kitchen. We even grilled in the backyard one evening. No matter the season, I think this would be a perfect location for a group of 4 - 6. One right turn from the house, and you're on the main coastal highway to go to wine country or shopping. The beach is close enough to walk to, but with the parking pass provided, there was no need to. That was a big bonus when you're with two smaller kids and all of their beach gear. The owner was always reachable and helpful with questions. There were tons of menus and area guides left for us to look over. Every common question was handled in advance or clearly labeled inside the cottage. New Buffalo was a wonderful town to visit. The beach was clean, sandy and active (but not overcrowded). All of the restaurants were good (special shout out to Brewsters) and there is seemingly an infinite number of ice cream shops around for the kids.

Clean, Well-Stocked Cottage in Perfect Location!

We absolutely loved our stay here. The owner Jennifer was in touch via text prior to our arrival, so no guesswork about who to call if need be, which was great. But we didn’t need anything! Jennifer goes above and beyond and provides everything and the kitchen sink for guests in this adorable, clean, roomy cottage. The kids loved the big “game room” and the fact that there were tvs from this century! We loved the proximity to the strip in New Buffalo, and to grocery stores, the beach, Redamaks & Oinks. We happened to pick some days where it never reached above 68, so no swimming for us, but we did walk down to enjoy the view. Jennifer was so generous to refund one night’s stay because of the weather—totally surprised us. We absolutely will stay again!

Wonderful stay!

Our family (2 adults and 2 young children) had a fantastic time at this cottage. It was the perfect size and we loved sitting in the very large screened in back area. The fenced-in yard was great for our girls. The houses had lots of beach toys, chairs, even a beach umbrella. The kitchen was well-stocked and everything was very clean upon arrival. This house is also very close to downtown New Buffalo, only 3 blocks away. We took nightly strolls down to the harbor then crossed the small bridge to the beach. Perfect location! Jennifer was wonderful to work with and we can't wait to visit again!

This cottage was right in the heart of New Buffalo, within walkable distance to all the dinning and shops. The location eliminated the need to constantly try to find parking, which was fantastic. It had a wonderful back porch, that was perfect for the family. The fenced in back yard worked great for my furry companion. The owner was very easy to work with and I would give her 5 stars on her responsiveness. Would recommend to others.

The house is very charmingly decorated and I loved all the different art displayed as well as the great back screened in porch; however the living room couch and chairs were so uncomfortable For both of us. Also, the grass was very tall and needed a mow.

Why they chose this property

Cape Cottage is the perfect beachside retreat. It's only a half-block from downtown New Buffalo's stores and restaurants and three blocks from the water.

We've expanded the original cottage to include a large enclosed porch and an unattached studio cottage.

What makes this property unique

Cape Cottage has great historical significance to New Buffalo. It's considered to be the oldest home in the city. Since we purchased the cottage in 2006, we have updated every room with top-of-the-line appliances and furnishings while lovingly maintaining its charm and character.

We named the home Cape Cottage as a tribute to Cape Cod, where we've vacationed for over 25 years. Much of the original artwork in the cottage is from Cape Cod.

The cottage is located in an established neighborhood filled with friendly, welcoming neighbors. We even have a communal stray cat, Mittens, who we have all shared in the care of since he was first discovered wandering our yards in 2010.
