About this property

Cottage over looking Coast Guard Beach and the Atlantic

This private, cozy, year-round, cottage for two, with king-sized bed, perches on a rise amid four wooded acres overlooking Coast Guard Beach in the Cape Cod National Seashore. Kitchenette with two-burner stove, microwave, toaster oven, electric frying pan, blender, BBQ, and refrigerator. The beach and ocean, a three minute walk away, can be viewed from the deck, the bed, the dining table, or the living room couch. Bicycle trail nearby. Birds and wild animals galore. Nauset marsh nearby. Seashore Visitors' Center two miles away. Numerous restaurants to tempt the palate.

Katudala's is a quiet refuge for folks in search of a place to hang their hat, relax, sunbathe, go for a walk on the beach, or on numerous National Park trails, go birding or biking, spend the day in Martha's Vineyard/ Nantucket, go antiquing in Dennis/Yarmouth; or just want to spend a quiet day of reading, painting, or writing as you view the Atlantic for inspiration.

Excerpts from the 'Log' say more than ads:: '...We saw the turkeys and chicks, Baltimore Oriole, the pair of cardinals, and seals at the beach. No fox or dear this year. We spent lots of time relaxing on the deck reading, walked the beach. Enjoyed great food at Finely JP's, Blackfish, Sam's Deli & ice cream at Nauset Ice Cream. Wish we could stay longer. Alas, must go back to work.' from New Hampshire

'...we were able to slow down from our usual routine and enjoy many things: the birds, deer, rebbits, turkeys and their babies, walks, the ocean, CC Museum of Art, some local friends, books (Jeff - 4, Deb - 3), etc.. I broke my rule of 'no TV or news' on vacation and watched a little to keep up with the campaign, especially Hillary's 'exit' speech. I didn't want too many surprises when I get back to the real world. Until next time...' from Connecticut

More excerpts: '...I appreciate the quiet time and the at home cozy feeling....'

'After eleven years we've revisited Katudala's to find it the same as it was then: private and personal, charming and delightful with seas, sky, sand, and all of nature's trimmings thrown into the bargain!...' from Hohenweg SWITZERLAND

Wonderful holiday here (again!!). This is a beautiful place to take time out of a busy life and enjoy the beauty of nature. We've walked, cycled, relaxed and we find outselves going home with a feeling of peace. the creatures have been entertaining as usual - especially the turkeys. The sunsets and moonlight nights spectacular.
thanks you again for your hospitality - and introduction to little necks. See you again next year.

Some blank verse?: Like a very subtle wine, we had
all our senses met with joy by
the Katudala
The sweet smell after the rain.
The light on the sea, early morning.
Sounds of birds and winds
We walked to Nauset light and
back; our feets will remember
the sand and the ways it moves
under you
The rain wanted everything green!
...and almost succeeded...
Thanks you for this (too short) time in
your peaceful place on the Atlantic.
Merci! Quebec, CANADA 2009

Like Coming Home
The perfect place to rejuvenate and relax after these two long years of lockdowns from COVID-19. As soon as I got out of the car it felt like coming home. Kathy was there to greet us and catch us up on events. Pam visited in the evening for a chat and to make sure we were comfortable. This home is perfect for two, with ocean views and sounds. Coast Guard beach is my favorite place on the Cape and this is as close as you can get. Down the short hill and across the road. The cottage is well supplied and the king sized bed is extremely comfortable. The view is beautiful. The yard is artfully designed with wildlife abounding. The turkeys are a treat. Bird song and ocean sounds and views, It doesn’t get any better. Thank you Kathy and Pam for a wonderful vacation.

Serenity abounds
This place is great! Wonderful location, and we felt completely comfortable in this rental. The huge picture window with the ocean in view is so peaceful. We will be back for a longer stay as soon as we can make it here again from Washington state. Thanks much to Nat and Kathy for a beautiful respite.

Wonderful stay
Nat and Kathy are among the most hospitable people I have ever met. The cottage is in a perfect location, close to coast guard beach, and filled with light. It was wonderful to find that the real cape cod still exists.

About the host

Host profile image
We grew up in Buffalo NY (Kathy) and Attleboro MA (Nat), Married in 1961, we have three girls (one in Seattle WA, one in Eastham MA, and eldest in Charlottesville VA area) and we have lived at schools where Nat taught or was administrator, and Kathy has been working in clothing and gift retail for thirty-odd years. We are both very much involved in volunteering locally with church, Habitat, Audubon, and the Cape Cod National Seashore in which we live.

Why they chose this property

Nat's grandparents built the main house in the 1930's. Nat has summered in Eastham since the 1930's, while he, Kathy and their family have done so here since the 1960's. The name of the cottage, 'Katudala', was the nickname given to Nat's mother by her father. Where he found the name has yet to be determined!

What makes this property unique
