About this property

Family house in idyllic rural location, close to St Ives and stunning beaches.

The Moors is our family home in beautiful countryside in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is in an ideal location for families that love beach life being only 5 minutes by car from St Ives but is also a great spot for walkers and those interested in wildlife (resident badgers, foxes rabbits and stoats) or in a wild and ancient landscape dotted with remains of settlements, standing stones etc.

The Moors is a lovely granite built farmhouse style property which dates back to 1700 and was formerly a smelting works for the local tin mines.
It is set in four acres of grounds, which include garden areas and a pretty stream for paddling.
The house is set off road on the edge of moorland and the network of ‘tinners’ pathways enable visitors to walk for miles without encountering a road. Favourite walks include to Zennor on the north coast, stopping at the Tinners Arms pub (great crab sandwiches!) taking in ancient quoits, or to Roger's Tower, an 18th century folly on the site of an iron age settlement with spectacular 360 views over West Cornwall.
A shorter walk can be taken to Baker's Pit Nature Reserve. The former clay pit is now a small lake which is used by locals for 'wild swimming' during hot weather.

At night here it is quiet and dark, the peace interrupted only by the calls and activities of the local wildlife. The dark skies enable stargazers to enjoy the amazing spectacle of the constellations and Milky Way.

In the field adjoining the house we keep chickens, including our (not TOO loud) cockerel, Macbeth, so can usually supply you with fresh eggs.
We love our home and are delighted to be able to offer it to other families to enjoy during the summer when we are often away. We live in it for the rest of the year, so you will find all the usual family bits and pieces around for your comfort and enjoyment and we know that you will cherish and respect our home while you are here.

The house is comfortably furnished with a mix of long owned family pieces and a few more contemporary items and local art works. We believe you will find it feels friendly and welcoming.

The house has four bedrooms, one is a family room with a king size bed, a single bed and a single truckle bed that pulls out from underneath. The single beds are standard size and with good quality mattresses, so fine for adults as well as children.

You may be interested to know that there is a charming stable conversion near to the house that sleeps two and also allows one small dog, this might be useful for larger parties or where a couple need privacy from the rest of the party (grandparents often appreciate this!). This can be booked separately if available.

Check in/Change over Saturdays.

Wonderful stay at "The Moors"
Located between Penzance and St Ives we just had the best holiday at "The Moors". We were two families (4 adults & 4 kids), had the whole of the house and the greatly cared for garden at our disposal. The weather was good & the scones were to die for! Mark & Margaret are just wonderful hosts. Thank you so much for you hospitality.

The Moors has been the family home for us and our 4 children for 13 years, but now that the children are grown up and living away we are happy to share it in the summer months so that guests can enjoy this special place while we enjoy travelling about or living in our summer cabin.

Why they chose this property

It sits within 4 acres enabling us to enjoy gardening and wildlife in a tranquil setting.
We love that it is situated on a bridleway leading to great walks with our dog and we have plenty of space for our chickens to roam! We also love to stargaze on clear nights.

What makes this property unique

Spacious family home that is full of character in a lovely peaceful location and yet very close to the local amenities of St Ives and Penzance and all the fabulous beaches on both the north and south coast.
