Whitby is a small historic town with a fascinating history, oodles of character and traditions as well as a proud seafaring heritage. It has a special place in the hearts of the many visitors who come to explore, with many guests returning year after year. Come and see for yourself what makes this place so special. Tate Hill beach, where Dracula was said to arrive in Bram Stoker’s bestselling novel, is nestled less than 100 yards away. Steeped in history, Whitby is home to a marina, a busy colourful harbour and the 12th-century abbey ruins towering over the town. Take a stroll along the cobbles of Church Street, lined with antiques shops, inns and tea rooms, and climb the 199 steps that take you to the abbey and St Mary’s Church, with breathtaking views over the harbour and across to Sandsend. An award-winning beach stretches for miles before your eyes, it’s perfect for a family day of fun at the seaside.
Whitby hosts many festivals throughout the year including the 60s festival and folk week, regatta week and not forgetting Goth weekends when the streets are packed with visitors from far and wide, dressed in their stunning outfits.
