About this property

Characterful Cottage in the Heart of Dorset

Characterful remote 4-bed property in a beautiful village ideally placed for easy access to Dorchester and the Jurassic Coast. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxed family holiday.

It is perfect for a peaceful retreat, located on the southern edges of the beautiful Blackmore Vale. Many walking and cycling routes can be found leading from the door allowing you to take in the picturesque landscape that this area is renowned for.

The house sits just outside the village overlooking the Blackmore Vale meadows and lush landscapes. It is situated in its own private land on a gentle hillside with great views. The property is accessed via a secure yard shared, but separate from our personal stables where you will hear the tiptoeing of horses coming in for their evening meal. There are two farm cats Middy and Shumba, who live in the feed barn in the yard but are not keen on dogs.

From the yard parking area next to the cottage you enter a fenced patio that leads to the main cottage entrance door and lobby area. The original part of the cottage is believed to date from the late 1700s and although extended in recent time the calming colours, character and charm of this traditional cottage is sure to make you feel right at home, with low ceilings and original beams to be admired throughout.

The older part of the house has a cosy snug study/ lounge with Smart TV and open fireplace, this leads up a steep staircase to two bedrooms, double and a single with fabulous views. On the ground floor, you will find a WC and Bath.

Just off of the entrance lobby is a large stunning lounge with a Smart TV and an abundance of character features including a large open fireplace and 2 sets of double doors which open onto the south-facing patio area.

There is a large open and spacious country kitchen, this delightful room is an inviting space for the whole family to enjoy and is well-equipped with an AGA electric oven with gas hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine.

A staircase from the kitchen leads you to the landing on the first floor where you will find a charming king-size bedroom with beautiful en suite bathroom where you can take a soak in the freestanding slipper bath, with separate shower and WC. Adjacent to here is a further double bedroom furnished with care and overlooking the Blackmore vale meadows.

Heading outside from the kitchen you will find a country garden with table and chairs. it’s the perfect space to enjoy a meal, or perhaps drinks in the evening. Leading on from here is a small orchard and a summer house, sure to keep all the family entertained, with TV and pool table. Or alternatively, get fit in the gym or relax in secret spots with a beer or gin and tonic looking over the meadows.

The property is situated in its own land, but we advise no dogs are allowed to run free on this land due to the horses and cannot take any responsibility for injuries caused to unrestrained pets.

This is a holiday cottage so you have access to all of the house, including a large enclosed garden, ideal for children and dogs. The adjacent fields will have horses in so it is recommended that you keep your dogs on a lead.

Dogs are welcome but we do ask that you don't leave them unattended in the cottage (we charge £25 per dog, payable on arrival)

This truly is a really 'pleasant spot', and has been our cherished home for 27 years, the views and walks are just outside your door. It really is quite special. Our home and our animals have been a big part of our life and as such, this place is part of us. We really hope you will enjoy it.

The house is situated just outside the village overlooking the Blackmore Vale meadows and lush landscapes, situated in its own private land on a gentle hillside with great views. The property is accessed via a secure yard shared, but separate from our personal stables where you will hear the tiptoeing of horses coming in for their evening meal. What makes this property unique

This charming detached cottage is set in a quiet location on the fringe of Buckland Newton which was chosen by the BBC as a typical Dorset Village. It is perfect for a peaceful retreat located on the southern edges of the beautiful Blackmore Vale where many walking and cycling routes can be found leading from the door allowing you to take in the picturesque landscape that this area is renowned for. From the cottage, it is easy to wander to the friendly popular local pub (The Gaggle of Geese), which can be found just a 10-minute walk down the road. There is also a well-stocked local shop. The nearby area encompasses golf and fishing, or you can easily reach the towns of Dorchester (9 miles) or Sherborne (10 miles) which have a great selection of restaurants, cinemas, pubs and shops. Why not take a trip to the coast and visit the sandy beach and historic harbour in Weymouth or go fossil hunting along the famous Jurassic Coast.
