Villa Bamboo - a private villa in Crete

This villa sits amongst olive trees on the outer limits of Pirgos, a little hamlet 15 mins walk from the calm village of Maleme. Combining an uncluttered and modern interior with an external finish embellished by touches borrowed from the ancient Minoan era, the resultant cocktail of decorative themes creates a totally unique style. Dark clay colours rub shoulders with pale creams and pastel shades both inside and out, where they contrast strikingly with the light blue water of the pool.

The starring feature though is by courtesy of Mother Nature herself with gorgeous sea views through the practically floor to ceiling windows, over the olive trees and neighbouring roof tops.

Partially hidden behind a dividing wall, the well equipped kitchen has a clear run of white cupboards and work tops with a fridge freezer, full sized cooker, washing machine and a small dishwasher concealed within. A breakfast bar with seating for four overlooks the pool and patio area through a large picture window.

A small internal hallway with a full length mirror and floor to ceiling storage leads to the bedrooms, each of which has its own spacious shower/wet room with contemporary fittings.

The master bedroom is furnished with a king size bed and colour washed in an intimate shade of red wine, lifted by the subtle use of bamboo in the headboards and door screen. There is a pine wardrobe and dressing table and, more lovely sea views through large windows.

On the opposite side of the hallway is the very spacious twin bedroom with a dressing table and ample wardrobe space. Windows face the cool green of the olive groves.

There is a extra folding bed in the living area for a 5th person/child.

The recenty renovated lower floor adds another bedroom and bathroom with a large closet room, allowing for extra space and privacy.

Outside, an extended bamboo awning creates a comfortable shaded area, where dining is accompanied by magnificent sea views. Sunbeds with comfortable cushions further enhance the poolside terrace.

The lovely 10m x 5m pool itself is perfect for those who like to immerse themselves in a more genteel manner as a gradual slope descends around the perimeter, leaving the sudden plunge from the edge to the more active.

Just 20 mins walk away from Maleme, Villa Bamboo's within an easy reach of shops, tavernas and beaches and a bus stop, if you do want to travel further afield. Thus it will be of appeal to those who would prefer to leave the car at home.

Wider doorways and spacious wet rooms make this single level Villa suitable for wheelchair users.
