This is an ideal destination for walkers and those who love the great outdoors. There are many wonderful walks right on your doorstep and you can follow the rail trail passed the engine sheds to the nearby station at Grosmont just 1 mile away. Grosmont is a picture perfect village, with a selection of cafés and shops. Following the trail further leads to the neighbouring village of Goathland past the Mallyan Spout waterfall. From here you can take the circular route on foot or you can return by steam train, you may recognise the platform as Hogsmeade from the Harry Potter films. The steam train will take you on an unforgettable journey through rolling hills of heather and valleys of ancient woodlands, it travels between Whitby on the coast and the historic town of Pickering at the foot of the moors.
Mallard Cottage was built back in the 1860s for local miners. Back then they rented the property for just two shillings and six pence! Now the area is more popular for tourists who come to take in the scenery. You will soon discover why visitors fall in love with this beautiful area, returning each year. This cosy characterful cottage has the convenience of private parking as well as your own garden to take in the sunshine. With two bedrooms, a bunk bed room and a double this is a great choice for couples or small families. You are also just a 20-minute drive from the historic seaside town of Whitby, and the dramatic coastline, including Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes and Sandsend. With many days out to choose including nearby Dalby Forest with cycle and walking trails as well as zip lines through the trees, Thorton le Dale or Hutton Le Hole are quaint picture perfect villages to explore and for a special treat the children will love Flamingo Land theme park and zoo. There is also plenty for history lovers, you can search for fossils along the Jurassic coast, discover Captain Cook’s story in one of the nearby museums, visit Helmsley or Pickering castle as well as Whitby or Kirkham Abbey. Less than an hour away you have the stately home of Castle Howard which is fabulous all year round as well as the captivating city of York. This is a delightful little cottage, ready to welcome you into the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors. Beach 10 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
