This wonderfully restored Georgian country house offers the perfect retreat either for a quiet, luxurious weekend or perfect for family gatherings. Step through the classic entrance doors to Ewelme Manor and discover this beautiful Georgian home.

Designed by Anthony Keck in 1760 and once a 'Coming of Age' present to the late William Purnell, Ewelme Manor is the architect's earliest identifiable Gloucestershire country house, also closely associated with Highgrove, Berkeley Castle and Rodborough Manor to name just a few.

The perfect house for entertaining in style, with a superbly equipped kitchen, the Aga, with companion, warming the heart of the home, numerous impressive reception rooms, all with magnificent period open fireplaces, and a added outdoor pool complex with cinema room, provides a more contemporary 'spa like' feel and an additional entertaining area.

Start your day by taking morning tea under the verandah by the fountain. Enjoy a long, leisurely lunch with family and friends under the pergola on the south facing patio, overlooking the pool. Sip a cocktail before dinner in the study in front of the open fire and then dine with style in the 17th century dining room. Alternatively, you could just cosy up on a feather sofa in the 'snug' with the flickering flames of the wood burner, or settle down in front of a movie in the cinema room - the choice is yours to make.

We had the most wonderful stay at Ewelme Manor in Dursley and truly can't recommend it highly enough, The house is absolutely beautiful, full of charm character and thoughtful touches. I had mentioned that I would be celebrating my 70th birthday. There was a birthday card, prosecco, strawberries, a box of chocolate truffles and fresh Rubrum Lilies waiting for me. Other touches:-fresh flowers running the length of the dining table-fresh flowers in most common rooms-robes and slippers, with yes, more fresh flowers in each bedroom. Particularly helpful:-an available and vetted list of local chefs and caterers. I used this list, found two people, Jo Parker and Lizzie at Mint Catering, they did not disappoint. Excellent food and service. -there was a grocery delivery service too, but they required a local UK number to arrange delivery. (I was ordering online from the U.S.) Candida, the VRBO owner, was quick to give me her number to use. The delivery was smooth and food put away when I arrived. Pleasant Surprises:-this house has lovely yard and garden setting, and we ventured further and found the start of the Cotswold trail nearby, -a few of our guests strolled into Dursley and were charmed by locals and the local pubs too. -Candida has a sense of humor, my five year old grandson decided to "hide" the snooker ball, in the house before returning home to the U.S. She patiently awaited his clues and did find it eventually---and laughed at this, rather than get annoyed.

We had the most delightful stay at the lovely Ewelme Manor House in Dursley. The home is full of character, blending traditional charm with modern comforts. The garden, pool and outdoor dining area are exquisite and provided the perfect backdrop for a family reunion and Celebration of Life. The location was ideal—tucked away in a peaceful village, it’s just a five minute walk to town center yet the property is surrounded in gorgeous, mature trees (several redwoods) that evoke the feeling of seclusion. Towns like Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water are about 30 minutes away and did not disappoint. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and provided clear instructions and helpful local recommendations. It truly felt like a home away from home.

We could not wish for a better house for the weekend. The property was so impressive and very well equipped. It was spacious and so clean and little touches were amazing. The best part of the house was the outdoor space and the pool and hot tub which was heated and very clean. The hosts were amazing and really made the stay so special and were always on hand to answer any questions. I would definitely come back here as it’s perfect for any occasion.

Old world charm

Ewelme Manor had tons of character and charm. We loved dinners on the patio and walking the Cotswold Way path into Dursley. The manor itself could have used a deep clean and refresh, but it worked for our group. The AGA was a wonderful addition though it did add heat to the house (no A/C) on the hot days. The hosts were great and very communicative. Be advised that a caretaker lives on the back portion of the house (you won’t see him unless you need to) and the hosts stay in a cottage within view when guests are staying at the manor (their usual home). All in all we enjoyed our stay but probably wouldn’t stay in Dursley again if we return to the Cotswolds.

Wonderful Stay at Gorgeous Property in The Cotswalds

Our extended family comprised of three generations had a lovely stay at this incredibly spacious, beautifully decorated property. Check-in was easy - the owners showed us the ins and outs of the house and were lovely to interact with - even leaving us treats upon arrival. Plenty of spacious rooms and a lovely lounge to spend evenings in. The outdoor/grounds were stunning and our kids really enjoyed the hot tub and pool. We made day trips to Castle Combe, Tetbury and Bibury to experience quintessential Cotswalds beaty. All in all we couldn't ask for a more perfect setting with which to celebrate grandma's 70th birthday.

I hosted my 50th birthday here. I couldn’t be more happy. We visited in January and enjoyed the beautiful Cotswold hiking through the day, and then had a dinner party on Saturday evening. Very large, spacious house and fantastic grounds. Lots of room inside and out for us to spread out. Facilities excellent. We made good use of hot tube, pool and table tennis tables and the young ones enjoyed the kids play area. Easy access to Cotswolds Way path. Although the property is on the edge of Dursley, the grounds are large, giving the impression that you are almost in the countryside.

Beautiful English Manor

Spectacular English manor house and gardens. Gorgeous interior in all respects, with outstanding pool, hot tub and terrace area, and meticulously kept grounds. Perfectly located on the edge of Dursley, conveniently located for day trips to the south (Bath, Stonehenge, etc.), the many nearby idyllic Cotswold villages, and Stratford-upon-Avon and Hidcote Garden to the north. Pub fare in Dursley and several excellent restaurants within a short drive. The owners were extremely helpful and responsive--Candida was outstanding as we worked through several questions when we were considering a stay there. The perfect place to stay as you experience this beautiful part of the world.

The most stunning of grand houses in beautifully lanscaped grounds. Hosts Candida and Stephen were nothing short of exceptional in all they did ,both pre and during our stay. The attention to detail throughout the house is extraordinary, Candida we were all blown away by your talent. We had a brilliant few days with our family and their friends ,and got a trip in to Cheltenham races too. I must mention the "old Crown" at Uley - Kate and her team provided us with, in our opinion the best roast we have ever had. Thank you candida and Stephen - much appreciated

We really enjoyed our stay here. There were a total of 22 of us and the house felt very spacious. Rooms were set up beautifully with towels and robes, which were perfect for using the hot tub, a huge hit with the chilly weather. Despite it being winter the house felt really warm and cosy and the beds were very comfortable. There are beautiful walks straight off the doorstep and some nice pubs nearby which made for a perfect Saturday afternoon. We hired a chef on the Saturday night and the kitchen had all the facilities set up for cooking a large dinner and the dining room had a very large table to fit us all. The location of the property was very convenient as our group were coming from London and Devon so it was the perfect in between location and a really easy drive. We all had the most memorable weekend together and wish we could have stayed longer. The hosts were very friendly and were on hand if we needed them. Candida was also great at answering all my questions and keeping in touch throughout our booking. We would love to book again in the future!

Incredible property

We booked this property to celebrate a group 50th birthday, and could not be happier with our choice. We were a party of 18, 10 adults and eight children (ages 4-15). Before arrival, the owners were super efficient with communication, providing detailed information about the property and responding to questions on the same day. On arrival the owners showed us around the property at check-in. The house feels much larger that it looks in the photos. The family that own the house reside in the property between rentals and as such it is set up for comfort rather than set up specifically for renters, which adds to the charm. All of the bedrooms are large, even the smaller ones are large. The house facilities are fantastic and we used the heated swimming pool and hot-tub every day of our stay in late October. We didn't head into town, so cannot comment on the local pubs or restaurants, though a comprehensive list of establishments was provided. We did take a stroll into the countryside, to Cam Peak, which is accessed diretly from the garden. Unfortunately we did cause a small amount of damage to the property during our rental, however, the owner was exceptionally gracious. I cannot recmmend this property highly enough for a large group. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful house.

Winter Wonderland

When I had the idea to get a 20 friends together for a Christmas party I was looking for a property that would be spacious enough for us all, as well as have enough activities that if it did rain the whole weekend in December we would be okay. Fortunately, the weather was bright blue and crisp and the walks from the back of the house are incredibly beautiful. We even woke up to snow on the Sunday which looking out from the beautiful big windows into the garden, and down by the Christmas tree really made it a winter wonderland! This property absolutely surpassed all my expectations, we had a kitchen disco, played games around the pool table and sang songs around the piano. The flow of the house lends itself to intimate gatherings and special time with those you love. Candida and her partner Stephen were also so responsive with all of the communications before hand and there to check us in with everything we may need. Highly recommend for friends and family alike. Thank you once again, for the most memorable weekend. We can’t wait to come back in the summer months for a warmer dip in the pool!

What makes this property unique

The views across the valley of the rambling Cotswold hills, the incredible gardens, with natural springs, the sound of running water and the centrepiece fountain. The house is welcoming and wonderful, full of light and love with original Georgian features and quirky curved hallways, magnificent large south facing rooms and a beautiful, contemporary kitchen with glass gable, overlooking the outdoor pool and gardens and 250 year old Copper Beech. Step out of our gates directly on the famous Cotswold Way where you can ramble to the nearest pub, enjoying the much loved Cotswold scenery along the way. All this and every local amenity you could need within 5 minutes of the Manor and activities and venues a stones throw away.
