Le Manoir d'Amiel is an accredited 4-star, fully-equipped French "Manoir" with accompanying annexes. Just 10 minutes from the historic medieval ‘Citê de Carcassonne’. The manoir is beautifully furnished with many original restored features plus all mod-cons to make your holiday more comfortable. Your group can relax and enjoy the property in complete privacy as all bookings are exclusive.

The outside entertainment space is as generous as the house itself featuring Provencal-style gardens, a shaded hammock & plenty of seating. A large 80m2 open-barn complete with summer kitchen, two gas barbecues, one built-in charcoal barbecue and a large dining area. Beautiful property, perfect for a Company retreat.

We stayed as a group of 15, all work colleagues which was perfect as there were enough rooms lots of privacy, lots of bathrooms and enough space for us all to eat together, indoor and outdoors. Johann was on hand for anything we needed and was so welcoming. The property itself is so well located close to the airport and Carcassonne. We thoroughly enjoyed the darts, pool table, hot tub and pool, so much to do!

Family reunion

27 of us from 6 weeks old to 76 had the best time in Yohanns place. It is superbly well equipped, in a charming town and is within very easy drive of Carcassone. The butchers opposite is superb if you want to bbq to your hearts content. Some of the group went to the Tour de France, some golfed at golf de Carcassone, some drove to the sea, some ran in the local hills and most just stayed by the lovely pool, and in the converted barn where so many games were provided. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything you could need. The bedrooms in the house are superb. Great great stay.

Brilliant family birthday celebration

Just back from a fantastic week at La Maison celebrating 25 years together with my beautiful wife Dawn and my upcoming 50th birthday. This was the dream holiday that almost didn't happen. Nearly a year in the planning but almost scuppered by Covid-19. Thanks to Mel and Colin for their communication and patience in dealing with the additional info requested. I dare not visualise the holiday for fear of cancellation. If I had, it wouldn't have matched he perfection that greeted us. Everybody was blow away by the quality of the house, the deco and general set up. It was first class. We spend most of our time outside around the barn and pool area, enjoying the company of the 22 family members (aged 3 to 69) who joined us. We took turns to cook and BBQ, had table tennis competitions and just loved our time together. Walks around the surrounding area were lovely and we enjoyed visits to Carcassonne and Châteaux de Lastours. However in truth the house is so wonderful we could have stayed in the whole week. It was perfect.

Colin and Melanie, I salute you !!!

We chose this beautiful property for my early 60th birthday get together as it could accommodate so many people, from the age of 70 to 4 it was perfect for all. every convenience from butcher to baker, wine store to supermarkets were at most a short drive away. the house and grounds with swimming pool, and barn with 3 BBQ's were perfect for any family get together and plenty of nooks and crannies if anyone decided to drift away from the main event. Carcassonne was maybe a 20 minute drive away and most definitely worth a visit , I went twice and should have gone much more!! I didn't mention the bar in the basement , no need for a bar in the village use the basement absolutely fantastic , my 7 year old grandson took the position of bartender and did a sterling job :-) . Colin and Mel were on hand if required and could not have been more helpful it was an absolute pleasure to meet them In summary, if you want a private large family or friends get together this is the place Wil Denham ( about to turn 60 ) and loved La Maison

Perfect Place for a Large Family Holiday

We were a party of 19 from Liverpool aged from 15-65 and we stayed in La Maison in the second week of June 2018 to celebrate a special birthday. The house is wonderful. It is very large and has substantial grounds. All of the bedrooms were very well appointed as was the house itself. The bedrooms on the first floor of the main house are large and luxurious. The bedrooms on the second floor are charming and serve purpose. The annex is lovely and we would recommend taking that too, even if your numbers don't justify it, as it gives you access to a second kitchen and large refrigerator. The fact there were so many separate spaces - the barn, the pool area, the gardens, the cellar bar & TV room - meant that we felt like we had lots of room and lots of different activities on offer. We loved the outdoor kitchen and spend a lot of our time there eating & drinking, playing pool & darts and using the hot tub. Mel & Colin were excellent; Mel in dealing with our booking in advance and Colin looking after us when we were there. Colin & Mel's excellent relationships with the local supermarket, butcher and baker served us very well indeed and we were delighted with how friendly and willing to help the locals were. The village is sleepy and lovely and there is a regular and easy bus service into Carcassonne which we used often. We would highly recommend La Maison for family and large group holidays; it ticks all of the boxes.

Beautiful property - perfect for a group get away!

A beautiful house with all the amenities you could ask for with a big group of family! I would happily stay again, whether it be with a big group of friends or another big family event. Mel was always quick to respond on pre arrival correspondence, she was extremely informative and Colin was on hand to deal with our arrival and departure as well as mid week contact. The pool was clean before arriving and also a mid week clean was done to ensure it was a debris free as possible. the house has lots of social areas for any rainy days and being so close to Carcassonne was very easy to drive down into for the day.

Best family birthday party ever

The house is beautiful, comfortable, spacious and has everything you may wish for to entertain all age groups. The double beds had 4 pillows each and good cotton bedding, spotless en-suite bath/shower rooms with towels. The kitchen is fully equipped. Best of all are all the things you can do there with the heated pool, hot tub, table tennis, billiards, darts, BBQ, indoor cinema, sound system,. I had been a bit concerned that our single men would need to drive out to find bars and clubs as the village lacks in hot spots but they did not, they spent their evenings using the facilities on offer and everyone had a great time. Our hosts Mel and Colin were super helpful throughout the booking process and after. Our family would highly recommend spending time at La Maison.

Fantastic - La Maison has it all

La Maison – this has been the perfect location and facility for our 27 guests (total part size was 29) to join us in celebrating our wedding. Our group consisted of family and friends ranging in age from 2 years to 65 years and the excellent facilities surpassed everyone’s expectations. Every room and every space is full of individual character and you get the feeling the whole of La Maison has been crafted over years with love, creativity, style and passion. In our opinion, La Maison has it all and we would highly recommend to others.

A holiday for 12

We are a group of male school friends now all in our 70's. Everyone was very pleased to have their own bedroom and bathroom. We were also pleased that there were options for evening dining, inside or out, and all sitting comfortably at the same table. We could sit in shade or sun, inside or out, by the pool or watching a film later at night (in the basement, out of hearing for the sleeping people). Crockery, cutlery, glasses and mugs never ran out. Verbal and written guidance was helpful, accurate and comprehensive. We had three cars, and parking was ample. We stay in a large property each year in the UK or Europe. This venue gets 5 stars, and is at the top of our list.

This place is amazing!

What a find! La Maison is an absolutely wonderful place to stay. The village has the essentials and is very easy to get to Carcassone. There are beautiful walks nearby too. Mel and Colin were both fabulous to deal with. The house was fully equipped with everything we needed for 20 of us to have a relaxing and comfortable stay. Colin had lit a fire for us on arrival which was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. All of the rooms were lovely and each room has its own bathroom which is a bonus. The outside area was great for children who enjoyed many hours in the pool. The hot tub was also an added luxury! On Mel and Colin's recommendation we also used a chef who came to the house and cooked for all of us on a number of occasions. Petra and her husband Marcel were absolutely amazing and well worth it. Mel and Colin gave us many recommendations of things to do in the area and places to eat and it is the perfect house to do as little or as much as you want. Thank you for a wonderful stay - we will be back!! Jen

perfect family retreat and a hot tub too!

Just perfect. Ideally located for Carcassonne airport, and the surrounding area - beach and mountains, both in easy reach. Very impressed with the facilities - pool, play area for children and a fabulous hot tub too. We loved our stay there and our only regret is that we didn't book it for two weeks instead of one.

Relax and enjoy La Maison.

We had a wonderful week at La Maison - the youngest generation (aged 2 - 6) absolutely loved the pools, table football, swings and hot tub - the rest of us found it an incredibly easy house to manage with masses of towels, china, glasses, cutlery etc and endless hot water - great to have a shower room with every bedroom too. Such a beautiful area to cycle, run and drive around and lots of super restaurants too - everyone in the village is so helpful and friendly and Colin and Mel were super efficient too ! A truly relaxed house to stay in with lots of space and a perfect set up for 2, 4, 5 and 6 year olds ! One of the easiest large houses we have stayed in !

La Maison - great for large families and groups

As a large group of extended family stayed at La Maison in April this year. We chose this house as it has so many en-suite bathrooms and we were not disappointed. Most of the bedrooms especially the ones on the first floor were palatial, and the current owners have kept all of the beautiful original features of the property, such as the hand made terracotta tiles, marble fireplaces, water marble fireplaces, water pump, old sink and so fourth - the house has an artistic eclectic feel which works really well. Our family spans over several generations and it was perfect for everyone from age 3 to 80, the kids enjoyed the heated pool and we spent hours enjoying the jacuzzi. There is enough space for everyone, in either the great outdoor barn area, with summer kitchen or in many of the seating areas both in and outside the house. The kitchen is really well equipped, with plenty of cutlery and crockery to avoid doing the dishes when required. The house is ideally located for walking to the local bakers, butchers and supermarket, the locals are friendly and it made it feel like a really authentic French experience. We hired bikes during our stay, and biked out to the canal, and several tracks just outside the village. There are so many places to see and visit in the area, lakes, caves, the Med, but we spent most of the time at the house as it was hard to pull ourselves away. Would highly recommend.

TRES AGREABLE

Superbe propriété, avec beaucoup de charme et bien équipée. Grands espaces (les chambres, la cuisine..) et le plaisir de profiter de la grande grange bien aménagée pour se détendre quelque soit le temps. A great venue for a get-together

We’re just returned from a most enjoyable stay at this property to celebrate an 80th birthday. It’s very suitable for a group of friends as the rooms are en-suite. (Some bathrooms are a bit on the small side, but big enough). The owners have been very helpful through the whole process of booking, arrival, and throughout our stay, and in returning our deposit afterwards. The village of Ventgailhenc is very French and sleepy, and there’s not a lot in the way of night-life. We used the local shops (patisserie, butchers and supermarket), all within walking distance, and created our own night life in the wonderful outside area (- which has its own fridge and dishwasher!) - and in the charming dining room. The local winery sells refillable buckets of wine, 5 litres for €6 – very quaffable for afternoon drinking:) The house is on a road which can be a bit busy, particularly first thing in the morning, and the entrance to the driveway is a bit tight, - a lot of care is needed, especially when pulling out. There is some parking across the road opposite the entrance, which is a lot easier, though a bit further to walk. This area of France is very beautiful; a visit to Carcassonne is a must. Although if the weather is good, it’s hard to leave the swimming pool! Our group included two children (ages 3 & 6), who loved it! We would definitely like to return to stay in this property, and are looking for another excuse for a celebration!

Wonderful return visit

We stayed in Villegailhenc back in April but didn't get around to writing a review but now that Mel and Colin are advertising on this site we thought we had better rectify that ! We did stay here in 2013 and vowed that we would return to celebrate a birthday with friends . We did write a review at that time which can be seen on the 'Owners Direct ' site The house is in an ideal location and is a short drive of Carcassonne . However we did not drive very far as we spent most of the time at the house . We again used the local wine cooperative and purchased far too much of their delicious wine ! We shopped at the butchers opposite the house and also the local supermarket and boulangerie so didn't really have to go that far for our essential supplies . The heated pool was great fun and lazy days were spent lounging in the hot tub and reading in the outside barn which was well used for our evening BBQs . The bedrooms were ideal as we all had an en suite bedroom each and there was plenty of room for all of us around the rest of the house . Mel and Colin were helpful and discreet . They have a lovely house which is ideal for a visit any time of the year. Thank you for sharing it !

FR5860 - La Maison

16 family members, aged from 23 to 85, thoroughly enjoyed a week at La Maison in September. It's a stunningly beautiful home from home. Colin is around if you need him, but always discreet and courteous. La Maison suits you if you want to do little more than relax by the pool, but it is also fabulously located for visiting the sites of Carcassonne; market shopping in Narbonne; cave exploring in Limosis or spending a happy afternoon wine tasting at a vineyard within staggering distance of the house. The local butcher, baker and supermarket owners are all delightful and their fresh produce is wonderful. The Butcher’s sausage is superb! All patrons are charming and patient if you have limited French and welcome your effort, even if that’s just a simple “bonjour”. The house is comfortable and cosy with enough indoor and outdoor space for a large group to feel relaxed and not on top of one another. There are thoughtfully positioned tables, chairs and hammocks in the garden for each to find a quiet space to read and relax. The large dining table outside is great for family meals, or general chats over a cooling cocktail. You will not regret booking a week or two at La Maison; I’m definitely going back!

Lovely house, great location

Our recent stay at La Maison as a group of 16 adults was a resounding success thanks in large part to the great amenities at the house. We knew that finding a gite with en suite accommodation for all and large enough food preparation and dining areas was a big ask. Mel & Colin’s delightful house certainly delivered. The only thing we failed to work out before going was the configuration of the rooms suitable for adult single occupancy, which meant that one of our party had a small room on the top floor and shared a bathroom. But otherwise all the double/twin rooms were a good size, those on the first floor verging on palatial! Colin made himself easily available to fix any minor glitches (eg replace light bulb, fix sticking door). The location in the village was perfect for early morning bread and croissant runs to the local boulangerie. The small supermarket is also within walking distance and served as a convenient place to top up supplies, including decent fruit and salad. Our one meal out in the village at the nearby hotel gets mixed reports, some dishes being a great success but others less so. This was more than compensated for by an excellent meal prepared for us by Marie jo, the local chef recommended by Mel & Colin. Of the many places in the area to visit, Carcassonne is a must for anyone who hasn’t been before but Mirepoix was probably the favourite. Excursions into the haute vallee de l’Aude (Alet les Bains), montagnes noires (Lastours and Caunes-Minervois) and further afield to Albi and the Cathar castles of Foix and Peyrepertuse are also recommended. The Canal du Midi is within easy reach for leisurely walks. Relaxation back at the house was also easy in the good-sized lounge and outside seating area, plus the hot tub and pool. We were pleased we chose to have the pool heated even though our stay was in July as the weather wasn’t as hot as it could have been. The wifi was reliable in all areas. Mel & Colin clearly love their house and want it to be enjoyed equally by all who stay there. We will definitely recommend it to our friends and families.

Brilliant

Brilliant holiday away in the south of France. I would massively recommend it to any and all. The location was perfect, just a short drive to castles and caves. Surrounded by wine domaines and the cheese was to die for. The house itself is all that anyone could ever want. The bedroom were all large and most had ensuites. Sky tv in the livingroom and the 1st floor bedrooms were vary rarely watched due to time spent in the magnificent outside area which included a hottub, more then adequate seating and games such as table tennis and darts. There was even a pool table in the outside cottage. We also got a decent amount of usage out of the heated swimming pool. Mel and Colin, the owners, were close by should there be any issues (there wasn't). I would very much recommend this holiday for people of all ages. We had 2 young children with us (aged 1 & 2) and they loved the swings in the garden. Overall, the property was very clean and well equipped. I have every intention of returning in the very near future.

Beautiful house

We loved our stay at this glorious house. The owners, Mel and Colin have worked hard to provide a house with modern conveniences whilst retaining the original charm and grace of the property. The staircase is breathtaking and the original fireplaces and the choice of furnishings create a wonderful ambience. We were a small party but could easily see how the house would work for a large group. The grounds are well laid out with lots of little nooks and crannies to sit and relax. The pool and hot tub were a welcome addition and the outdoor covered barn was amazing, a great place for a party. Mel and Colin are close by should any problems occur and were really relaxed and friendly. The house is situated right in the heart of Villegainhenc which is a lovely village with a fantastic butchers, boulangerie and general shop whose owners are very happy to help and do delicious rotisserie chickens on Sundays for an easy meal. The one restaurant L'Octavio is very relaxed, the owner Xavier is a great host, he was very happy to make a cassoulet specially for us which was delicious. The village struck us as very friendly and had everything needed, great food, great wine, and great location being set in the heart of vineyards and just a short distance from Carcassonne and the canal du midi. We all fell in love with the house and We will certainly return.

Outstanding large gite near Carcassonne

We had a fantastic week staying at La Maison Amiel near Carcassonne. The house is very spacious and decorated very nicely, which also included a number of excellent pieces of art produced by our host Colin. The outside areas are brilliant and include a large pool, a wonderful hot tub, 2 BBQ's and a large dining area which is undercover. Within an hours drive of the golden beaches and clear blue seas of the med, this is an ideal base for a holiday. I highly recommend this property!!

La Maison d'Amiel

We had a fantastic 2 weeks stay here to celebrate our Golden Wedding and for the middle weekend we had 26 of our family to stay. The facilities were great and we cooked outside in the barn for the whole time. The children and grandchildren all enjoyed the pool. The house was wonderful with all the equipment we required and Mel and Colin were most helpful if there was anything we needed. The village shops carried most items. I would thoroughly recommend the villa to anyone who needed a large property.

We fell in love with La Maison when we saw it and feel so blessed and privileged to look after it and enable our guests to have a magical experience. Why they chose this property

La Maison is one of a kind. It is very rare to find a Manoir like this within a village in France. Most properties of this size are remote and buried deep in there countryside: At La Maison you have the privacy of your grounds and house, but you can always pop out to the local butcher or patisserie. Within five minutes walk you have breathtaking views of the Pyrenees and within 3.4 miles (or a lovely bicycle ride), you are in the medieval grounds of Carcassonne citadel! La Maison has been painstakingly renovated, respecting the period it was built but adding all the mod cons: The sound and light system in the bar is phenomenal and many a great party has been thrown there. The pool, hot tub, and barn really encourage you to relax and make a breathtaking wedding or big event venue. In Winter the house is just as magical with its log fires. The living area is also really versatile with all combinations of single, bunk, double, twin bedrooms, most of which en suite and rooms/bathrooms suitable for disabled/elderly. Whether it is just a break or a special event, La Maison has exceeded expectations. Come and find out!
