We really enjoyed our stay. The petite gite had everything we needed and beautiful farm land views. It was well located close to Rochfort and La Rochelle and sandy beaches. The owner/ hosts were great. The kids loved the swimming pool too.

Fabulous Family Holiday
Owners (Nigel and Suzanne) were fantastic hosts, nothing was too much trouble.
The gite was spotlessly clean, well equipped and comfortable.
Children's play area and swimming pool were great for us to enjoy as a family.
The location is ideal for exploring the Charente Maritime, handy for La Rochelle and the coast as well as discovering towns and the river Charente.
We would recommend this gite complex without hesitation and look forward to staying here again in future.
Merci !
We have just spent a great week in the Pressoir. The gites are in a beautiful and peaceful location, whilst still being close to lots of attractions (within 30 mins). Nigel and Suzanne were really helpful in recommending places to visit as we have not been to this region before. Il de Re, La Rochelle and the beaches were all highlights. The gite itself is well equipped and was good for our family of four. There is a lovely seating area and BBQ's which we enjoyed using. There are also bikes to use. The pool was very popular with our boys and has comfy seating and sun loungers for enjoying the great weather. Thanks for a great stay.

Lovely spot for a family holiday
Lovely property set in fantastic open rolling French countryside. Property was immaculate, basic but adequate furnishings and a well equipped kitchen. Two outside seating areas which is nice. Pool is well kept and was a huge hit with our two young children. There’s also a huge grass area with some (very old) swings, a trampoline (though no safety net) and a childrens’ playhouse which was great for us and allowed our children to make friends with some children staying in one of the other properties.
5 minutes drive to a fabulous bakery/patisserie, 20 mins to some beautiful beaches, and less than an hour to ile de re.
All in all a very enjoyable week.

A beautiful property in gorgeous French countryside
We had a wonderful 2 weeks staying in Le Pressoir. The property was really lovely, the swimming pool was great to come back to after exploring and the owners Nigel and Suzanne made our stay just perfect. The property was well equipped, even beach gear and bikes were provided.
The property is about 25 minutes from La Rochelle and ideally situated for exploring the area where there's lots of gorgeous towns, markets and beaches. Which all made for the prefect family holiday.

Comfortable, relaxing, and attentive hosts!
A great base to explore the area, whether that be cycling locally on the quiet county lanes, day tripping to Ile De Re & Ile D'Oleron, visiting the local beaches, exploring the waterways of 'green venice', or just enjoying the regional wines and fantastic seafood (Oysters and Prawns like you've never tasted). Also fantastic emergency services, local hospital and great hosts in Sue and Nigel as I discovered following an exceptionally extreme reaction I had to a bee sting on our first evening! A holiday we won't forget.

Fabulous Gite
Le Pressoir is wonderfully presented and full of character standing in its own grounds in an idyllic rural location. Clean and well equipped with everything you may need, it provides an ideal base to explore the local area. We didn't take advantage of the swimming pool but it looked very inviting. The gite is very dog friendly and there are many fabulous walks literally on the doorstep.
Nigel & Suzanne were great hosts, extremely friendly and accommodating. They gave some great tips on where to visit locally and were helpful in finding a local vet.
We would highly recommend Le Pressoir and will hopefully return in the near future.

Our honeymoon!
We stayed for a week in Le Pressior on our honeymoon and we had the most amazing time! We found the Pressoir was perfect for us, spacious, decorated well, lovely views over corn fields, quiet, excellent facilities, and well situated for La Rochelle, Il De Re and lovely beaches. There was plenty of space to play, a fantastic park area and pool, and very importantly, wonderful hosts!
We had a very relaxing stay in a beautiul area of France and we would definitley recommend staying here. We have wonderful memories of our stay, thank you Suzanne and Nigel, we'll be back to try out the farmhouse next time!

OK for a few nights during summer
We stayed for 10 nights at Le Pressoir in May 2012. First sight of the appartment is positive. Charming house, tastefully decorated. Kitchen is small but well equiped. The garden is nice with a big playing area for the kids.
Location is remote. Car is an absolute must. Driving distances: closest beach in Chatelaillon is 30 minutes, to the centre of La Rochelle is 40 minutes.
Please be aware that if you want to stay at this farmhouse that there is no heating! There was a gas heater available (at extra cost) but this will not be sufficient if the wheather is a bit colder. Stone floors everywhere. So not cosy and cold in the appartment. During the warmer days it was fine.
Water in the shower was not hot and sometimes almost cold. Shower curtain full of mould. Lots of dust in kitchencabinets and on top of cabinet in sleeping room and on the couch. And very moist iand smelly inside (need to open windows). Pans and tablewear not clean.
Worst of all is that we only received 1 set of towels per person (1 small + 1 big) for 10 days. No change of bedsheets for 10 nights! Plastic covers on the matrasses like in the hospital (can only imagine how this must sweat during hot summer nights...).
Before booking we specifically asked for Wifi and they assured us that this would be available during our stay. At first Wifi did not work. We asked Nigel and the answer we got was: "It should work." And that was it. When we asked again next day he came (reluctantly)to have a look. Indeed there was a problem which he solved the next day. Unfortunately Wifi extender (which needed to be plugged in outside) was not always available and was often only there after 9 pm evening and was plugged out in the morning again and would then just "dissapear" and sometimes not come back at all.
Swimming pool was closed. We were not informed about this beforehand. Why it was closed we don't understand because it was warm outside. Sometimes even 25-30 degrees (except 2 days rain).
Although the owners were friendly they never bothered to ask if everything was fine and if we needed anything. During our stay we never saw Susanne and we sometimes saw Nigel passing by. Also when we left Susanne did not ask if we enjoyed our stay. General impression of the owners: they just did not care.
We are frequent travellers and not so difficult or picky. After reading all the positive reviews we went here with high expectations. Overall experience was. We would not recommend to go here.

After 8 years experience of running Gites we have found that some people do like to keep to themselves, we do not like to keep bothering our guests. We hardly saw you as you were working in La Rochelle and were out most of the time. For a 2 week stay we offer fresh linen, most people wash their own as our Gites are equipped with a washing machine, Iron etc.
I feel that I have to answer your other issues as you are being very unfair:-
1) Chàtelaillon-Plage an easy 15 mins! La Rochelle an easy 30 mins!
2) You had a gas heater and a plug in radiator, these are normally chargeable, you did not use the gas heater and we noticed no excessive use of electricity, so you were NOT charged..
3) Tiled floors help to keep the Gites clean. We use mats as these are more practical and can be cleaned easily.
4) We have changed the shower curtain since your stay.
5) 250L hot water tank is big enough for 4 pers, you were only 3, if asked we could have made it hotter.
6) We pride ourselves on keeping our gites very clean and in top condition, you were near the beginning of the season, it had been thoroughly cleaned.
7) Mattresses need to be protected for hygenic purposes, the covers are washed frequently.
8) I do resent being called `reluctant’ as previous guests know that I have bent over backwards to help sort any problems, it is my job and I get great satisfaction from it.
Your stay here did highlight a problem that we have never had before with the WIFI extender, I said ‘It should work’, because everybody’s computers are different. Previously having this problem only to find that changing a few settings on their computers made the wifi work. I did temporarily sort the problem once I realised that bizarrely having worked for many years without fault, this year the extender has decided not to feed a signal through the electrical wires to the Pressoir!
The Pressoir does not need the extender as our guests pick up a signal in the outdoor seating area.
The plug is shared by all our Gites which has never created a problem before.
9) We open the pool in May when the weather warms up. If you are using heating inside, the water will never be warm enough outside for swimming,
We changed the water and serviced the pool this year to give all our guests a more clean and pleasant swimming experience.
I’m sorry that your stay wasn’t what you expected, perhaps your more suited to a Hotel or Chambre d’hote (bed & breakfast) next time & not a gite!

Another fabulous holiday
This was our third stay Le Pressoir and it proved equally as wonderful as the previous two.
As always, the property was exceptionally clean and with a couple of new additions - flat screen TV and a large well stocked book case.
Having seen so much of the area during our previous visits we were keen to experience some new places.
Highlights this year were the Hennessy distillery tour at Cognac and spending a wonderful day in the beautiful city of Bordeaux. Both being within ninety minutes drive from Le Pressoir.
La Rochelle is as charming as ever and a day spent at Ile de Re really is essential.
I could wax lyrical for many a paragraph about the local area but will resit the temptation - it's simply beautiful.
A huge thank you once again to Nigel and Suzanne who are perfect hosts.
We had thought of holidaying in The Dordogne next year, but Summer wouldn't be complete without spending some time at Le Pressoir so we've compromised and booked a week at each.
I would (and have!) recommend Le Pressior to anyone looking for a fantastic place to stay in a beautiful region of France.

Traum Urlaub

Another wonderful stay
This year's stay was our second is as many years at Le Pressoir. Having stayed for one week in 2009 we felt a two week stay this year would allow us to enjoy this region of France some more.
Nigel and Suzanne really have done an amazing job renovating the farmhouse and gites. They also have a useful habit of always been available to recommend places to go, beaches to enjoy and restaurants to visit.
Le Pressoir is excellently maintained, clean and equipped with all the self catering facilities one needs.
The surrounding area is wonderfully pretty. A short walk or cycle ride into the local village is breathtaking - a generous endorsement from a Yorkshireman.
The beaches at Fouras and Chatelaillon are a short drive away (20 mins). Also to be recommended are the beaches (numerous) on Ile D'Oleron.
An hours drive will get you to Venise Verte - take a rowing boat through the waterways around Maillezais and Coulon - another super day out.
There are many more "must do's":
La Rochelle - wonderful for eating / shopping and people watching.
Fort Boyard - take a boat trip from La Rochelle.
Saintes - Roman ruins - River Boats.
Rochefort - excellent market on Saturdays. A town steeped in maritime history.
Ile de Re - St Martin and La Flotte - too pretty for me to articulate!
So, to summarise - C'est magnifique!
I suspect it won't be long until our third visit.

Excellent Accommodation
We had a lovely 9 days at Le Pressoir. The gite was so nice it felt like home! Thank you to Nigel and Suzanne who were great hosts. The location of the gite was perfect, set in a quiet location but only half an hour drive to La Rochelle and Rochefort which had plenty of interesting museums to visit. We enjoyed our trips to Ile de Re and Ile de Aix, the Aquarium at La Rochelle and the Zoo at Royen. We were especially pleased to visit at the same time as the Grand Pavois so we got to see the floating boat show and excellent firework display. There are plenty of great restaurants around, for local cuisine Bateau Lavoir in the village, for excellent seafood Andre's in La Rochelle and Le Belem at St Martin on the Ile de Re. All in all a great holiday and if you choose this gite you won't be disappointed.

Le Pressoir
Having recently spent a week in Le Pressoir with my partner, I can honestly say that it was a pleasurable experience, and would certainly recommend it for the cleanliness and freshness of the accommodation throughout. It was well equiped and we wanted for nothing, and our hosts were friendly and helpful in every way without being overbearing.
It is ideally situated for easy access to the local coastal beaches (approx 20 minutes drive), and we also visited Cognac and Royen. The local village of Landrais is within walking distance or you can use one of the cycles provided if you prefer. Here you will find a shop and a bar for basic provisions. There is also a restaurant that was lovely, though don't bother eating for several hours before you visit, as the food is plentiful and rather tasty! The local town Surgiers is also convenient for the purchase of locally produced foods at the market, where we bought wonderful fish, cheeses and salads.
All in all very happy and look forward to returning in the future.
