Our Victorian House offers a stylish venue for groups seeking a place to enjoy a special celebration or a family holiday. It's a rural location on the edge of Sedbergh surrounded by open fields and miles of rolling fells. Situated in the Yorkshire Dales and within easy reach of the Lake District, the location is perfect for doing as little or as much as you want!
Spanning two floors, you will have exclusive use of the entire Howgills House and grounds, which is an ideal option for low-key events or celebrations.

The large open-plan ground floor living space is light and bright, useful if the weather is a little damp.

Our two hot tubs are under the cover of a seeded roof canopy and you can enjoy the views all day long!

All 12 en-suite bedrooms have been individually decorated to provide beautiful and luxurious accommodation.

Bedroom 5 on the ground floor is suitable for disabled access and benefits from a wet room.

We work with catering and activity partners. We have a list of providers available for you.

We have a free 'B4RN' Wi-fi connection.

Accommodation Summary:

Ground Floor:
- Two large living rooms with interconnecting glass doors and panoramic windows.
- A large flat-screen TV with Sky and an open wood fire.
- Dining room seating up to 24 guests. An additional dining table in the TV room.
- Banquet tables and chairs (for large group dining) are available upon request.
- Commercial kitchen with fridges, freezers, crockery, cutlery, and cookware. Gas oven and hob.
- Boot room.
- 2 toilets.
- Bedrooms 1 to 5, including the wheel-chair friendly bedroom with en-suite wet room.

First Floor:
- Cosy Library Room.
- Bedrooms 6 to 12.

Outside:
- 1/4 acre outside and patio area.
- Two undercover 8-person hot tubs.
- 'How-grills' our outside 'den' which includes a gas BBQ, and a pool table. Lockable bike storage.

Things To Note:
- Travel cots and highchairs are provided free of charge.
- Pets are not permitted at Howgills House.
- We do not accommodate Stag groups at this property.

Great place for our reading group

Fantastic place with lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Sheep right on your doorstep, and the hot tubs were fantastic and well-maintained. Really comfy beds and a large kitchen, big enough to cook for the 20 guests we had with us. Thanks so much, we will be back

Corporate Retreat

A home away from Home for a Yoga Retreat in the Howgills

Howgills House is a wonderful home from home with great energy and good vibes as soon as you arrive, the location was perfect for our wonderful Yoga and Nutrition Retreat using all rooms of the house and the lounge for Yoga classes, the hot tubs got used daily as well. We had daily walks to the Mill and around the Howgills with a local walk guide and the guests loved their stay so much they want me to organise another one.

Fantastic

Booked Howgills House for a work event for 2 nights. The house was immaculate and very well equipped. The location is fantastic with beautiful views over the countryside, especially from the hot tub. The decor is very tasteful and the communal spaces were flexible and great for a large group. The owners were very helpful and made sure we had a great stay.

Fantastic house and perfect location

Perfect house to accommodate a large group. The house had literally everything we could possibly need (and much more). Spotlessly clean and really spacious. Lovely outside area to relay in the hot tub admiring the wonderful view. Only a short walk from the dales and a the lovely town of Sedbergh. Really was a perfect choice for our work team building stay.

Beautiful property and very friendly management team. All services and facilities you could possibly need onsite and help at hand if needed. The hot tub and bar were very special touches. My husband had a wonderful birthday and the whole group loved the house.

Brilliant house for our 3 day work trip. Clear communication from the start of the booking process, very helpful and informative. Hen do stay

We had a fantastic stay at Howgills house for my friends hen do. The place was absolutely perfect, it had everything we could have needed and more and was immaculate! Communication with the team was brilliant throughout, from booking to arrival. The owner popped over a couple of times during our stay to make sure everything was okay which was much appreciated. Would 100% stay here again and would recommend it to all friends and family. Thank you Howgills for the best weekend for our friends hen do, all of the hens had an amazing stay :D

Luxury and fun

This was our second year at Howgills House and we have already booked for next year. What can I say, the house is beautiful and luxurious, but what really make it if the wonderful countryside views. Sitting in the hot tub watching the lambs gambling in the adjoining field is wonderful. The staff have thought of everything and it’s the small touches that make it special. We had amazing weather this year, so made good use of the outdoor seating, BBQ, pizza oven and outdoor fridge. For large groups looking for a bit of luxury in the countryside, this place is a must.

Amazing accommodation with friendly owners, perfect for family reunion

Accommodation exceeded expectations. Everything was clean and comfortable and plenty of space for the whole family so we didn't feel we were on top of each other the whole weekend. Hot tubs were the cherry on top of a fantastic property. The only negatives are the size of the bunks, the lower bunks are very low with not a lot of head room and as we are quite a tall family it proved a challenge getting in and out of them. The other was the small kettle, a water boiler or more than one kettle wouldve been more appropriate. But honestly that's just us nit picking what is otherwise a perfect property- already planning our next trip back to Howgills!

Family Holiday

It was an amazing House, Amy and Nigel were great host very accommodating to our needs they have thought of everyone and everything in this beautiful House. Everyone loved the Hot tubs,it was very spacious for all 26 of us inside and the outdoors to the garden and BBQ area We have been recommending it to all our friends and family.Great place to relax.

Beautifully presented, spacious building

A touch of luxury, everything perfect and lots of clever touches. The kitchen is professional standard and has plenty of fridge space. There is a very large common room area with lots of comfortable seating. Bedrooms have high quality bedding and comfy towels, and everyone is also provided with a separate towel for the hot tubs. Outdoors there's lots more weather proof comfortable seating which is where we ate each day - if you fill every bed, the dining room is slightly small. There is a small astro area where children might like to play with a beach ball (bring one rather than a football, since it won't damage the building). There is space for several cars but if you are bringing lots of people you may need to plan where to park - we had two minibuses and a trailer which fitted easily onto the parking space. The house is in the countryside so there it is very quiet - the main thing you can hear is sheep! The owners are very responsive if you have any questions. Wifi works well. All bedrooms are ensuite which is fantastic. No TV in the bedrooms but there is a large TV in the common room. Sedbergh is nearby for shops, and supermarkets are happy to deliver to the property. Be aware of rubbish collection which is Thursday - you need to bring the bins out.

Wonderful time enjoyed by all - ages 3 to 40

We stayed at this holiday accommodation in the Yorkshire dales in August 2020 . We appear to have been exceptionally fortune in being the first guest since the lockdown, during which time there had been renovations. The entire place had a new and fresh feel to it. The photos on the website did not do the property justice, it was much larger in reality than the photos had given us the impression of. The kitchen facilities were all well apportioned and the drinks cooler was a welcome bonus, especially as the week we were there was very hot. The 2 hot tubs were a big hit and the owner kindly arranged for one to be converted to a 'cold tub' at our request, again, very welcome in the hot weather we had. The scenic and calming views whilst sitting in the hot tub were a wonderfully relaxing experience. From all ages, we had a great time here and felt quite sad when we had to leave! This was our first time holidaying up north and we are left with lovely memories of the beautiful scenery, lovely locals and friendly helpful owner. We very much hope to have the chance to visit again.

A brilliant family weekend

We had a great weekend staying at Howgills house! The house was spotlessly clean, spacious and very well equipped! The bedrooms were clean, comfy and each room was like its own little world away from the rest of the house, when you were in your own room you couldn't hear a thing from outside, perfect when staying with others! The beds and sheets were very comfy! We had plenty of towels, bath mats and toilet rolls supplied! The kitchen was very well equipped we didn't miss anything during our stay, everything we needed was provided! The pool table was a huge hit! We had great fun playing pool and listening to music on the speakers. The items provided for breakfast were a lovely surprise and we enjoyed eating together in the big dining room. So much to say about the house I'm trying to remember it all! The lawn was great fun to play on and ideal being astro as we had had weather during our stay but this meant that everytime we had 5 minutes of sun we could play out without getting muddy! We would certainly love to return in the future, Dawn and Nigel were very helpful and accommodating and kept in good contact right up to and during our stay. Thank you for a great weekend!

Fantastic stay

We recently stayed at howgills House to celebrate my partners 30th birthday with family and friends. There was 19 adults and 2 children and It catered for all our needs and more. Everybody loved there stay and the house is very spacious and stunning! All the bedrooms are lovely and come with a beautiful en suite finished to a very high standered. The hot tubs are an added bonus which over look nice countryside. Nigel and liz are lovely and very helpful. Our stay at howgills House was a fantastic 5 stars from all of us and we will definitely be returning again and would highly recommend it to anyone.
