I strongly recommend this house to families wanting short or extended stays on Hydra. I have visited Hydra about 10 times since 1969. I have always preferred a house that is between the Hydra port and the smaller village of Kamini as I like to go between them for various activities each and every day of my stay. This house is perfect for that. My multi-generational family found it very convenient to 1) go to the port in the morning for coffee and shopping, 2) go swimming in the afternoon at Castello’s beach (or wherever), and 3) dine in the evening at either Kamini, on the coastal road, or the port.
I particularly loved the upper patio of the house, which is open air with fantastic views of the village of Kamini as well as the sea and sky. The star shows each night were fantastic.
The interior of the house worked particularly well for 5 people — adults plus teenagers. Everyone had their own space and could either join together in the great room at the top or go off to their private rooms/spaces. Having two bathrooms was great and important.
I have to say that the house had EVERYTHING you could possibly need or want when you arrive with just your suitcase of clothes. No need to go out searching for toothpaste, shampoo, toilet paper, garbage bags or anything like that. Any food you might want is very close at either 4 Corners or Kamini. And the fridge had several bottles of great wine waiting for us!
The owner, Vasiliki, and the caretaker, Jonny, were fabulous. Always available for questions or aid for anything you might want. They made sure the donkeys were there at the port when I arrived on the hydrofoil and at the house when my family needed to leave. They took care of all my questions and looked into the various quirks of living in a Greek island house. They were super friendly and just great people to deal with.
My only caveat as a 76-year old with bad knees is that anyone my age will need to be prepared for large steps in the house from the gate to the house itself. No one else in my family — neither the kids nor the grandkids even mentioned it. I was able to handle them in the end. it just took some time.
Enjoy a great house!!!
