About the host
Hosted by Gemma

Here’s a response tailored to the personal and inviting tone you’d like to convey:
I’m Gemma, and I’m lucky enough to call the beautiful village of Burythorpe my home. Living here reminds me daily of just how special Yorkshire is—from the peaceful countryside to the friendly community. I love walking past fields of crops and horses (and even donkeys!) to the local pub, which has roaring fires most of the year, or treating myself to a gluten- and dairy-free afternoon tea at the boutique hotel in the village.
Hosting is my way of sharing this wonderful part of the world with others. Whether it’s offering tips for the best dog-friendly walks, the tastiest meals in Malton, or the perfect day trip to York or the coast, I’m here to help you make the most of your stay. At Yew Tree Cottage, I’ve combined my love of history and comfort to create a space where you can slow down, relax, and feel completely at home.

Why they chose this property
What I love most is how easy it is to experience everything Yorkshire has to offer. In just 7 minutes, I can be in Malton, a bustling market town famous for its food festivals and artisan shops. York, with its medieval streets and incredible history, is only 30 minutes away, and the beaches are just a 45-minute drive. Then there’s Castle Howard and Dalby Forest nearby, both wonderful for a day out. It’s an area that’s bursting with beauty, history, and great food—and I’m so glad to call it home.
What makes this property unique
When we first saw Yew Tree Cottage, we fell in love with its charming stone front, but the inside was a wreck. The previous owner had cemented over parts of the beautiful sandstone walls and plastered over the rest. We painstakingly removed the cement and hand-grouted every stone, bringing the cottage back to life while keeping its historic character intact.
Now, every detail has been designed with comfort in mind for your stay. The original sandstone walls and wooden beams create a cosy, authentic atmosphere, while modern touches like underfloor heating and a luxurious saltwater hot tub ensure you’ll feel pampered. Full-length folding doors open onto a private garden, perfect for relaxing after a day exploring Yorkshire.
This cottage is more than just a place to stay—it’s a unique blend of history and comfort, offering you a warm and welcoming retreat where you can unwind and feel truly at home.
