Martineau House is a beautiful Grade II listed home set over four floors with beautiful views to the sea and Collingwood Monument from the rear. Set in this popular upmarket seaside town the house is steeped in history. Refurbished completely throughout in 2021 Martineau House is a lovely space for families, couples or friends to spend some time together catching up and exploring not just the delights in and around Tynemouth but further afield. The well-equipped kitchen area on the ground floor with its front snug is ideal for dining, with a quirky home bar area and built-in lighting. On the first floor is the living area which is perfect for relaxing. There are four double bedrooms all with Smart TV, two on the second floor both with en-suite and two on the third floor. To the rear is an outdoor seating area with designated patio areas to relax with your morning cup of tea whilst planning your next adventure.
Named after one of the UK’s earliest feminist writers and journalists, Harriet Martineau, who lived in this 18th century property for five years from 1840. Harriet began writing her autobiography here and took delight in using the telescope to watch out for wrecks marooned at sea. Outside is a historical plaque marking the history of her stay in Tynemouth where she received visits from Charles Dickens and Emily Bronte. Tynemouth itself is a surfer’s paradise with blue flag beaches and annual surfing competitions, the promenade stretches to Whitley Bay and right along is dotted with cafés, bars and restaurants with some fish and chip shacks hidden down in the coves. A fabulous indoor market takes place on the old metro station dubbed the ’Covent garden of the North’ an intriguing place loved by locals and visitors to the area. Only a short walk from the house is the ancient abbey, beach and seaside. There are ample bars and restaurants around to never have to leave Tynemouth but whilst in the area a trip into Northumberland to discover the glorious heritage coastline, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which should not be missed with miles of golden sands and peppered with castles and friendly villages. Should you wish to travel into the beautiful historic city of Newcastle take a metro from the nearby station and discover the Quayside, there is the stunning Millennium Bridge and iconic Tyne Bridge. Nearby Whitley Bay can we reached easily with a leisurely stroll along the front where you can see the refurbished Spanish City building and visit some of the candy floss and ice cream parlours along the front. Tynemouth Aquarium and small boating lake is a treat for the children and nearby Waves pool in Whitley Bay will keep them busy on a rainy day. Visitors to Martineau House will appreciate the beautiful views from the top floors over the sea to the rear and the huge effort the owners have invested in making this a beautiful family space for your seaside holiday. Sorry no Hen or Stag parties can be accommodated.
