About this property
Brakestone Cottage in the heart of Port Isaac
Steeped in history, Brakestone Cottage takes its name from a granite block where carts were wedged while loading fishing nets. Located on a traditional pedestrian street in the heart of Port Isaac, this attractive fisherman's cottage, is just a stone's throw from the bustling harbour where the fishing boats land their daily catch. We are only a few steps from the very best seafood restaurants and pub. Stylishly furnished throughout, it sleeps up to 6 people in 3 bedrooms.
A prime location within North Cornwall's designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Port Isaac is a picturesque, atmospheric and historic fishing village dating back from the 18th Century. A lovely place to wander around soaking up the architecture, there are superb cafes and restaurants and a characterful old pub, The Golden Lion, where you can enjoy a local brew on the balcony overlooking the beach. Those wanting more energetic pursuits could stroll around to Port Gaverne beach for some wild swimming, coasteering or canoeing; or carry on hiking the coastal path as far as you like to appreciate the dramatic cliffs and coves of this part of the coast.
For a change of scenery, explore the north coast and hop in the car to nearby Polzeath or Trebarwith for surfable waves, or gentle Daymer Bay perfect for paddling with smaller children and lazy picnics on the beach. Watersport fans should make a bee-line for Rock, with its sailing club and waterski school, also the ferry across to Padstow harbour for even more great restaurants including many of Rick Stein’s.
Our traditional fisherman’s cottage can sleep up to 6 people but it is small and snug, so we find it most comfortable for 4.
At peak times, parking in Port Isaac is tricky. ** we have a private parking space at the top of the village available for our guests.** Perfect for ensuring you always have a nearby parking space waiting for you after day trips.
