You could not be in a better location than Stanley House. It is convenient to everything Port Isaac! Our host was so accommodating and everything went perfectly smooth. I can’t wait to come back to our Cornish home away from home.

Stanley house
We chose this property because of the description of facilities, which turned out to be incorrect. It listed two beds in each of the main bedrooms and one full and one half bath. Because we were travelling with a person with a disability, it was important that this person have access to his own toilet and own bed, with his wife in the next bed. Instead she had to sleep in another room on another floor, looking after him during the night was incredibly difficult and exhausting. The rooms were not particularly clean, bits of rubbish under beds etc. Very disappointing.

I can only assume Barbara had Stanley House mixed up with another property that was being considered, prior to making a final choice.
All our properties/rooms are cleaned to perfection and if a guest considers them not to be, we will always return to rectify any problem, if we are notified of course. On this occasion, unfortunately we were not.

Family get together for Mums 50th
Communication before check in day was perfect, Emma was very helpful. On the day of arrival our check in time was 4pm…we did not get the key code till after 5pm, we left 3 voicemails and messages in the end we contacted VRBO, they had no check information and were literally about to cancel our booking and refund…we absolutely did not want as we had all driven 3 hours each and knew we would not be successful in finding something suitable in Port Isaac with an hour. Just as we said to VRBO no you must try again to contact the host…Emma rang on my husbands phone apologies for delay as she was on N international call. We did not make a fuss and just wanted to get into the property. We found the house to be relatively clean. Sofa and furnishings had seed better days. Needed a good upholstery clean or new one! Kitchen equipped well enough, as always previous guests had not cleaned some glasses or pots very well, we are out mostly. Bathroom very clean, great shower. Bedding very good, fresh and clean although pillows all extremely uncomfortable…thick and very bumpy.Stairs-lethal. Stairs from kitchen to first landing incredibly awkward and sharp! Stairs from first floor to master and bunk bed room-is a serious accident waiting to happen. Each individual step is extremely narrow. More troubling is that the step at the top you can really on place the ball of your foot going up or down as the floor overhangs this step. Stayed in several PIsaac properties, we will not rtn to Stanley

Thanks for leaving a review Caroline, which I have to say was most disappointing to read considering the lengths I went to in ensuring all your pre arrival enquiries/requests were acted upon efficiently and promptly……….
“Please is there any possibility of an 11am check out?”
“Without bringing up the amenities again, what sort of coffee maker do you have”
“Importantly for my husband, do you have a freezer section in the fridge so we can get a bag of ice”
"Hi Emma, wondering if it’s possible to have some fresh crab and fish delivered to Stanley house…placed in the fridge for our arrival please? Is this something you can do…from Just Selfish or Knight Dennis next to the slip way.
If you hadn’t spent time asking the above trivial questions, compared to important ones i.e that you hadn’t seen pre-arrival details before you departed home, (which were sent a week before, but possibly went into your spam folder) you wouldn’t of had any problems checking in. Instead you messaged me at 16.09 ‘after lunching’ asking for a keycode, when I had actually messaged you at 2pm to say you could also have early check in as the house was ready for you!
Regarding your other comments, Stanley House is like many of the properties in Port Isaac, with steep staircases which come with the old properties that they are. They are not as lethal, however, as you comment them to be.
In the meantime, I would like to recommend any futue guests thinking of booking Stanley House, to please read other reviews prior to making their final decision. From doing this you will see they are positive and rewarding, including appreciation for the special welcome basket and welcome folder that is left to greet guests upon their arrival.
Lastly, Caroline I hope upon your next visit to Port Isaac, you are able to find a more perfect property and host which can accommodate your requirements better.
The property was very clean and well furnished, with comfortable beds. The bathroom is well appointed, and comes with lovely, fluffy soft white towels. We received a welcome kit with tea, coffee, and biscuits, and found scones, jam, and clotted cream in the refrigerator.
The Stanley House met our needs and was as described (the only discrepancy we found was that there was no clothes dryer--I even read the manual for the washer online to see if it was a combo washer/dryer). But that is a minor issue.
We were right across the street from The Golden Lion Inn, where we were lucky enough to hear sea shanties on our first night. Also we were only 2 houses down from Nathan Outlaw's Fish Kitchen (fabulous) and The Mote (wonderful) and the Platt, the harbor. Right next door there are wonderful traditional Cornish pasties and yummy sandwiches at Nicky B's. We also had a lovely breakfast at the top of Fore Street at the Cornish Cove. Walking up and down the village each day did great things for our cardiovascular health!
I would caution Americans that the roads in Port Isaac are very narrow, and I would recommend just packing a small jump bag to carry down to (and back up from) the house rather than thinking that you can park in front and unload a lot of luggage.
I'd also warn people to be cautious using GPS to approach Port Isaac. Map to the New Road, or you'll find yourself on the very precarious (for the driver) but beautiful (for the passengers) road through Port Gaverne

Why they chose this property
Port Isaac is a fishing village and known for the filming of the Doc Martin series and Fishermens Friends. As well as this, there is a wealth of history waiting to be discovered amongst some of the cobbled streets. The scenery on a clear day takes your breath away. Shops, the beach, well known restaurants and pub are within easy access of the property. Port Isaac is also within easy reach of Wadebridge where you can hire bikes and cycle the Camel Trail to Padstow or Bodmin. You can even stop off along the way at the Camel Valley vineyard and sample some delicious wines. The dramatic rugged North Cornwall coastline of Trebarwith Strand, Daymer Bay and Polzeath are close by with surf schools, cafes, bars, beautiful walks all of which will provide the most relaxing or adventurous memories to take home with you. The mystical town of Tintagel, home to the legendary King Arthur, is an easy drive from the property including the wizard Merlin’s beachfront cave. Rock is also nearby and here you can gain access to the ferry which can take you across to Padstow. This is another area that has become Cornwall’s food capital, thanks to its restaurants, seafood shops and connections to the chef Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth. The south coast is accessible from the apartment and here, as well as the north coast, you will find stunning coastal walks to explore the beauty of Cornwall. There are many other numerous attractions to suit all tastes including The Eden Project, Bodmin Jail’s newly opened museum, Land's End and National Trust properties. Many children's theme parks are nearby too.
What makes this property unique
Stanley House has everything needed to make your stay an enjoyable one and is in a good position for discovering all that beautiful Cornwall has to offer visitors.
