Hello! Welcome to Shell Cottage in beautiful Salvo on Hatteras Island. Thank you for your interest. We are located on a quiet street and just 390 feet from the beach access and a few minutes’ drive to a beach day-use park on the sound side. Traditional beach box bungalow. Come and enjoy a cozy and comfortable getaway vacation! This classic beach bungalow is clean, fresh, and comfortable. Great getaway for a couple or small family, kite boarder, and surfers. Have a great, relaxing time at our beautiful beach, never crowded with its golden sands. Enjoy a great day of surf fishing or sunbathing and come out at night with your flashlights and go ghost crab hunting. The roads are quiet and safe to walk or ride your bike to the day-use park. Get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Relax on the deck at night and watch the sky full of stars, so close you feel like you could touch them, or in the screened porch while enjoying your barbeque from the charcoal grill provided. Swim, fish, surf or kiteboard, windsurf, kayak or paddleboard on sound side. Salvo day-use park is perfect for a family with little ones where the water is shallow and warm. Rinse off in the outside shower! General store within walking distance. Lots of places to rent bikes, boards, kayaks, fishing gear, all close by. Whether you are looking for adventure or just wanting to chill on the beach, cast your worries aside and come enjoy a simple, fun, and relaxing vacation.

(Colony Dr. is a very quiet beach road, no traffic except for residents who live or vacation in Hatteras Colony ). The frequent visits from the ice cream and Kona Ice trucks are a plus!

Great little cottage

Perfect place for a family with pets. It was very well furnished and has everything you might need while you’re there. Very clean and easy check in process. Looking forward to staying again!

Lovely little cottage that is clean and well cared for. If you don’t need all the beeps and whistles of the large houses, this is the place for you. It has a full size stove, refrigerator, and stacking washer-dryer. Easy to do our dishes by hand as there is no dishwasher . Many nice touches. The screened in porch is a great place to read or chat. Was especially nice when the breezes came through. The outdoor shower was great and has plenty of pressure. The owner is quick to respond to messages.

Overall a great stay!

A cozy cottage located very close to a beach access with adequate parking for up to 3 vehicles, plenty of amenities inside for a rainy day, fully stocked kitchen, and the property owner was very helpful if i had any questions! A very livable space.

The cottage was very cute & comfortable but the area was just too far away from everything. Good restaurants is about all we can say about the area.

Awesome Spot

The property was perfect! Adorable and cozy and close to the beach! It was perfect place for a getaway! They had everything we needed! Including adorable dog bowls (which was awesome because I forgot our pup’s)! Can’t wait to come back again!

What a gem

This cottage is beautiful, very well maintained, and the location was a five minute walk to the gorgeous national seashore beach. Also close to Palmico Sound, several great eateries, and a short drive to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Traci was quick to answer any questions, and the place was perfect for us and our furry friends!

Great Little Cottage

This was our second time staying at the shell cottage and we just love it! Luckily for us the tropical storm moved quickly and left us with great weather. Traci was a huge help with giving us the FB page to check the road conditions and letting us arrive a day later. We are grateful that her family shares this little gem. We will be back!

Relaxing Beach Getaway

We wanted a relaxing beach getaway & that’s exactly what we got! We loved sitting on the covered porch early in am reading our books while the kids slept in. We walked to the beach in the am for sunrise. There’s a state park (free) about 5 min drive that gives access to the Sound, where we watched the sunset. Thank you for everything Traci!

Nice set up, enjoyed the screened in front porch, fan would have been nice but it was a very hot week. You may want to check the drainage of the bathroom sink. Other than that its a very nice place, appreciate tou letting us stay there...

Hidden gem on the Carolina coast

This charming bungalow in Salvo was a double winner -- first, for the thoughtful, creative, and comfortable accommodations, and second, for the beautiful and sparsely populated beach! The home itself is well-appointed, with a nicely outfitted kitchen, great entertainment options, comfortable beds, and very nice outdoor seating. And the wall of Pez is not to be missed! A perfect getaway for my husband, me, and our two pups. Just a short walk to multiple public access points to the beach, which again, is beautiful. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for quiet and stress-free relaxation at the shore!

Wonderful getaway for our family of 5

Our family of five (3 kids ages 4 and under) stayed here for three nights. House was well equipped, and we couldn't think of a thing it lacked for our convenience. We really enjoyed the screen porch and proximity to the beach. The weather was ideal for us (low humidity, not crazy hot), and the window AC units worked perfectly to keep us comfortable. The outdoor shower with hot and cold water was fantastic for rinsing away all the sand after spending both days on the beach. There was a fair amount of standing water in the neighborhood from rain earlier in the week, so be sure to pack some bug spray along with your sunscreen!

Peaceful getaway!

This beach bungalow was the perfect size for our family of 3 and our mid-size dog. We were looking for somewhere peaceful to recharge after a busy past few months of work and school. This retreat was everything we were looking for and more. Not only did we enjoy touring the lighthouses, sunrises and sunsets, we had the option of ocean or sound! While the riptides were only low for a day or two, the sound side was a perfect option, our pup preferred the more mild water. The home was nicely decorated and provided what needed in amenities. Thank you for a wonderful place to call home for the week. We hope to return some day! 😃

Won’t return

The cottage is very cute. No bedding or linens provided. Was expecting this to be a beach access location. I guess for the young or those without any physical limitations it is, but I think the description could have better explained that one has to climb over and through a long distance of sand dunes to even see or hear the ocean. There is no view or sound. The property sits on a residential street. I’m in my 60s and in good physical shape and it was tough; my husband didn’t even attempt it. So for that reason I can’t give it a 5 star rating. If this isn’t important to someone then I recommend the property. For us coming from MI we only came to this area to experience the ocean. Not happening here.

Everything we needed for a nice stay. Only complaint i have is the air conditioner wasn't working. Got very hot in house even with windows open. The owner did let us know it was out. We made it through it and made the most out of it. I would stay again cause we loved the quiet location.

A wonderful little cottage right by the beach! Check in is easy, the place was nice and clean, and there were little thoightful quirks that really made this place feel welcoming for us and our dog! There were beach chairs, extra dog bowls, even a doggy first aid kit in the bathroom! The ac unit broke down on us the first night but Traci was so kind and responsive. The late summer breeze kept the place just cool enough. Getting to the beach is super easy, its barely a block away. We went early in the day when it wasnt too busy. Expect the beach to pick up around 11am or so. But even so, there is soooo much beach, its easy to find a spot for you and your family. We loved the covered porch it was wonderful to sit out with our dog and enjoy the beach breeze. Overally great place to stay. I'd say best for a couple and their dog, or parents with 1-2 younger children and their dog.

The place is very cute and charming and great for a small family, however there was a strong smell of mildew in the kitchen for the duration of our trip and the charcoal was not usable given that there was a lot of rust on the grill. Overall I would recommend the place except for people with lung conditions and I would recommend that you do not plan on using the charcoal. The place would greatly benefit from a BBQ.

Great week.

We had a great time. The place was as advertised, a little smaller than I originally imagined but it does look like the pictures. Everything was clean. The only issue I could anticipate would be having to sleep with the doors open. As the AC does not have an access vent in the bedrooms or bathroom. If any of the doors are closed it immediately starts to get stuffy. Luckily it was just me and my wife so we did not mind leaving doors open, as we didn't have guest. So leaving doors open while showering or sleeping was not an issue. I would not recommend this place to peole who would need to keep doors closed while sleeping. It is perfect for a couple or small family.

Cozy Beach Cottage

Loved everything about the beach house. I do wish checkout was a little later. Would move it back 30 min to an hr at least. 10 am is a little early when you would like to grab breakfast and pack up all your gear without feeling rushed, especially if you are a fisherman and have a lot of tackle, coolers and other things to pack before departure.Great overall expirience. Love the rates as well. I appreciate the opportunity to have a place to stay as a recreational fisherman with my family. This is something that has become very difficult as a sportsman in NC, finding an affordable place to stay and also close to access to fishing spots, another thing we have lost to commercialization on many NC beaches, many of these locations we used to fish have become gated communities that only the very wealthy can enjoy. Very convienient to all needs. Thank you to the owner for offering a nice place to stay and I hope I get the opportunity to return one day. That is as long as the rates dont increase too much over time. There is a lot of young couples and families that need an escape from the busy life several of us live that many cant take due to cost of living challenges but this was just right for our family. Again, a very big thank you to the owner for making our dreams come true . 5 STARS!
