About this property

Eighteen century farmhouse fully renovated close to the famous Loire castles

La Basse Piltrie a former farmhouse dating back to the eighteen century and once belonging to the Vendôme monastery.
It comprises of a main house (300m2) overlooking an old yard and an old barn on the other side of the yard which we use to store bicycles, ping-pong table and outdoor furniture.
The 10.000m2 fully fenced garden includes an old pond (also fully fenced with weeping willows providing shadow) and a small wood of oaks and hornbeams.
The 16X6m swimming-pool is located 150 m from the main house and nested among oaks and schrubs close to another old barn in which you will find toilets and shower facilities. It is not heated and consequently in operation only from June to September. Our pool is chlorine free as we use a salt hydrolysis system. Please be very careful and insure an adult presence when kids are willing to use it.
The main house has just been fully renovated one year ago and furnished mostly with local antiques.
The large living room (80m2) with its old beams ceiling offers a huge seventeenth century fireplace.
Kitchen includes all amenities among which an over-sized cooker.
Each of the 6 bedrooms has its own special atmosphere: on the first floor the Albert one with its private miller's scale access, the Picasso one with its en-suite bathroom, the Aldin one with its "colombage" wall, the Klee one with its tuffeau wall and on the ground floor the Yellow one with its two big windows overlooking the former yard and the Geography one overlooking the pond.
All mattresses and bed sheets are brand new.
Guests will enjoy three bathrooms one with a very spacious bathtub on the ground-floor and two with big walk-in showers on the first floor.
We purposely limit the number of guests up to 12 among who a maximum of 10 adults to maximize the comfort and quality of the stay.
Our property guardian Albert is leaving nearby and is readily available for assistance throughout your stay.
La Basse-Piltrie is located in a peaceful and small hamlet, 2 kms from Prunay-Cassereau, 8 kms from Lavardin listed as one of the most beautiful french villages on the shore of the Loir river and 12kms from Troo famous for its troglodyte caves.
The prestigious Loire castles are close or very close (40 to 60 kms) then enabling multiple cultural options : Amboise (city of Léonard de Vinci), Chaumont sur Loire, Chenonceau, Chambord, Blois, just to mention a few.
Touraine and Anjou vineyards are also easily reachable not to forget the Coteaux du Vendômois and the Coteaux du Loir with the famous pineau d'Aunis grape variety producing the "vin gris".
Countryside is very convenient for bicycling.
To reach the Beauval Zoo you will need a one hour drive.
In Montoire 10 kms from La Basse Piltrie, a farmers' market takes place twice a week on wednesday and saturday where you can buy organic vegetables and fruits, goat cheese and local "charcuterie" specialties such as "rillons", "boudins", "andouillettes" and "patés". Montoire is also providing a full range of retail shops and supermarkets.
The Vendôme TGV station within a 20 minutes drive from La Basse Piltrie enables to reach Paris center in 45 minutes.

Quiet cottage for a group
Lovely cottage for a family holiday. Enough double rooms for four couples and good facilities. The location is quiet but there are villages nearby to get essentials from.

Wonderful stay in the countryside
We stayed at the property with friends and had a wonderful time. The house is absolutely charming with a nice large living room (as pictured), plenty of bedrooms, and a well-equipped kitchen. The caretaker and his wife met us at the property and was very helpful, showing us around and helping with taking the trash out. Our children had a wonderful time swimming in the pool and playing ping pong. We were hoping for a relaxing stay in the countryside and that’s exactly what we received. The property owner Gilles recommended some nearby towns, with sites and restaurants worth visiting, which was very helpful. We had a lovely time and would recommend La Basse Piltrie.

Loire Farmhouse
Ok there were a lot of great pros and some big cons: Pros: Lovely owner, meet us at property-I appreciate that, printed out helpful instructions and recommendations, fresh flowers and bottle of wine, helpful property hand. Cute towns nearby. Loire chateaux all about an hour away-so close enough. Lots of space, beautiful fireplace great at night. So quiet. Cons: The house was so dusty and filled with cobwebs and spiders literally everywhere. I spent the first 2 hours at least cleaning and dusting of each chair and the floors and vacuuming spider webs in the ceiling (not how I like to start a vacation). Then there were the flys…literally we killed at least 70. They were everywhere day and night, it really put a damper on all meals in the home as you can imagine. No fly swatter? Last, no drying rack? Had to line dry outside FAR from house instead of in a warm house. Take away If the house was deep cleaned I would say this house is lovely so hopefully it is for your stay as so much potential!

About the host

With my wife Edith we found in love of the Piltrie hamlet some 20 years ago.
As a financial consultant and Edith as a publisher we enjoy having the opportunity to break in this authentic and peaceful area far from the Parisian stress and reconnecting with our rural origin.

Why they chose this property

The Piltrie hamlet is surrounded by forests and farms and 45 minutes TGV ride from Paris center.
While rural, the area is also offering a number of cultural options : Renaissance castles, historic cities like Vendôme, Amboise or Blois, classic music recitals, churches decorated with old frescoes.
The house is large (300m2) and we renovated it while keeping its authenticity and charm.
We are lucky enough to have the support of a housekeeper leaving nearby (500m) who is taking care of the gardens, of the pool (June to September) and of the bicycles not to forget the maintenance of the buildings.

What makes this property unique

Unique combination of quietness, culture and history all that 180 kms from Paris reachable in 45 minutes by high speed train (TGV)
