Charming cottage, absolute calm and big swimming-pool close to the Loire castles
La Piltrie is a charming cottage dating back to the 18th century, nested in the heart of the Loir valley in the absolute calm of its 7.5 acres park. Some of the most beautiful Renaissance Loire castles are located 20 to 50 kms from La Piltrie : Amboise, Chenonceau, Chaumont sur Loire, Chambord, Blois to name just a few. The Touraine and Anjou vineyards are easily reachable not to forget the Loir and Vendôme « côteaux » which produce « vin gris ». To reach the famous Beauval Zoo you will need a bit more than one hour. The place is very convenient for bicycling. Lavardin listed as one of the most beautiful French village sits 8 kms from the house and Troo famous for its troglodyte caves is also very close. In Montoire 10 kms from La Piltrie, a farmers' market takes place twice a week on wednesday and saturday where you can buy organic vegetables and fruits, goat cheese and local "charcuterie" specialties. Montoire is also providing a full range of retail shops and supermarkets. La Piltrie is easily reachable by car : A11 highway (exit Chateaudun and then N10) or A10 highway (exit Château-Renault and then D9). La Piltrie is listed on most GPS including Waze. The Vendôme Villiers High Speed Train is close (20 minutes drive) enables to reach Paris center in 45 minutes and provides car rental (business hours to be checked). The Tours Nord airport is 40 kms from la Piltrie with several weekly flights to London Stansted. Car rental is available. While fully renovated in 2022, the house retains its historical charm and authenticity : old oak beams everywhere and a monumental 17th century tuffeau fireplace in the large living-room (80m2). All 6 bedrooms display old oak beams or wood-frame and each of them is developing its own atmosphere: on the first floor the Albert bedroom with its two accesses including one by a miller’s scale, the Picasso bedroom with its nice wood-frame and en-suite bathroom, the Aldin bedroom with its colombage wall, the Klee bedroom with its tuffeau wall and on the ground-floor the Yellow bedroom with its two big windows overlooking the yard and the Geography room overlooking the pond and the oaks wood. The house is offering 3 bathrooms: one on the ground-floor with an oversized bath-tube and two on the first floor each with a nice walk-in shower. Toilets are available on each floor. The kitchen is fully equipped with a cooking « piano » and a large pine table. The house can host up to 12 people among who 10 adults. 5 bedrooms have an independant access and the Klee bedroom is communicating with the Aldin bedroom. The house is not specifically adapted for disabled persons but two bedrooms are easily accessible on the ground floor. The swimming pool is quite big (16X6m) and is equipped with a salt hydrolyzer to avoid the inconveniences of chloric treatment. In the opposite barn toilets and shower are available for your comfort. Small oaks are providing shadow very welcome during the sunny summer days. The swimming pool is in operation from end of may till end of september. We purposely limit the number of guests up to 12 among who a maximum of 10 adults to maximize the comfort and quality of the stay. Our property guardian Albert is leaving nearby and is readily available for assistance throughout your stay. We also have a key box should you arrive late at night.

Lovely cottage for a family holiday. Enough double rooms for four couples and good facilities.
The location is quiet but there are villages nearby to get essentials from.
A lovely traditional farmhouse with lots of space inside and outside, in a very peaceful setting and a great swimming pool

Dear Frances
Many thanks for your comments..
I am very happy you enjoyed your stay.
It has been a real pleasure to host you and your nice family in La Piltrie.
We look forward welcoming you again.
Kind regards.
Gilles
Place was excellent, great for a cycling trip with work mates. Slight issue when we turned up, but Giles sorted out straight away. Place was great five stars all over. The only thing that was annoying was the flies. Thousands of them. We went out and bought about ten fly strips which when we put up had hundreds of flies on them. Rooms were excellent, massive fire place which was great. Hot water always there and a great swimming pool. It was a bit damp and musky in the downstairs bedrooms. That’s just two queries really which didn’t affect our stay, would recommend to anyone. Thanks Giles

We stayed at the property with friends and had a wonderful time. The house is absolutely charming with a nice large living room (as pictured), plenty of bedrooms, and a well-equipped kitchen. The caretaker and his wife met us at the property and was very helpful, showing us around and helping with taking the trash out. Our children had a wonderful time swimming in the pool and playing ping pong. We were hoping for a relaxing stay in the countryside and that’s exactly what we received. The property owner Gilles recommended some nearby towns, with sites and restaurants worth visiting, which was very helpful. We had a lovely time and would recommend La Basse Piltrie.
Ok there were a lot of great pros and some big cons:
Pros: Lovely owner, meet us at property-I appreciate that, printed out helpful instructions and recommendations, fresh flowers and bottle of wine, helpful property hand. Cute towns nearby. Loire chateaux all about an hour away-so close enough.
Lots of space, beautiful fireplace great at night. So quiet. Cons: The house was so dusty and filled with cobwebs and spiders literally everywhere. I spent the first 2 hours at least cleaning and dusting of each chair and the floors and vacuuming spider webs in the ceiling (not how I like to start a vacation). Then there were the flys…literally we killed at least 70. They were everywhere day and night, it really put a damper on all meals in the home as you can imagine. No fly swatter? Last, no drying rack? Had to line dry outside FAR from house instead of in a warm house. Take away If the house was deep cleaned I would say this house is lovely so hopefully it is for your stay as so much potential!

La Piltrie is quite a big house (300 square meters) with high ceilings and old oak beams everywhere, located in the countryside close to woods and then extremely quiet.
Indeed, end of October is the time of the year when spiders move inside the houses and love building their webs in the ceilings again and again: the more webs you remove (as we did prior to the arrival of our guests), the more webs they rebuild. Fortunately enough, our local spiders are totally harmless and quite useful not only to create an Halloween atmosphere.
And indeed, this year, during a couple of days the last week of October (in the middle of Christina stay) all the area has suffered from an exceptional hatching of flies as the result of hot summer and heavy rain the week before. Unfortunately not much you can do again that but using the insecticide aerosol sprays we will continue to provide in case such phenomenon repeats as another illustration of the global warming.
Let me finish with good news: on top of the large outside drying rack and the foldable one available in the laundry room, and even if not ecological friendly, we will install an electrical dryer for our guests convenience.

About the host

With my wife Edith we found in love of the Piltrie hamlet some 20 years ago. As a financial consultant and Edith as a publisher we enjoy having the opportunity to break in this authentic and peaceful area far from the Parisian stress and reconnecting with our rural origin.
Why they chose this property
The Piltrie hamlet is surrounded by forests and farms and 45 minutes TGV ride from Paris center. While rural, the area is also offering a number of cultural options : Renaissance castles, historic cities like Vendôme, Amboise or Blois, classic music recitals, churches decorated with old frescoes. The house is large (300m2) and we renovated it while keeping its authenticity and charm. We are lucky enough to have the support of a housekeeper leaving nearby (500m) who is taking care of the gardens, of the pool (June to September) and of the bicycles not to forget the maintenance of the buildings.
What makes this property unique
Unique combination of quietness, culture and history all that 180 kms from Paris reachable in 45 minutes by high speed train (TGV)
