About this property
Stylish Family Home Close To City Centre + Parking
Summary:
This Salt & City Stays family accommodation is located in a quiet spot just a 10-minute drive from Cardiff centre. Melrose Gardens is set back off the road in Penylan, an attractive suburb of the capital city, with its own off-road parking. The accommodation is modern & bright, comfortably sleeping 7 guests in its 4 sumptuous bedrooms. The open plan kitchen and dining area are perfect for planning family trips to Cardiff's main attractions, while the snug is the perfect evening relaxing space.
The Space:
The living space is modern and open, with a comfortable lounge leading towards the dining area and a sizeable kitchen. A corridor housing the stairwell to the upstairs runs alongside these spaces so that they can be closed off from noise if required. The lounge area is calm and restful, with two double sofas and an armchair facing towards the TV stand and HDTV. Lamps and reading lights make this space both cosy and social. Just beyond, the modern, floating electric fireplace sits alongside the dining table and chairs. This space is deceptive, as the breakfast bar leads right through to a large kitchen area. There are also patio doors leading to the garden from this lovely space.
The kitchen has everything you would need; an integrated double oven, Smeg stainless steel gas hob, a kettle, a toaster, microwave, integrated dishwasher and fridge, as well as your pots, pans, dishes, and silverware. This large kitchen is a contemporary and cool grey and is a great space for making feasts and plans. There is also a small utility space that houses the individual washing machine. Adjacent to the utility room you will find a small WC on the first floor. Completing the ground floor is the first of four fabulous bedrooms; a double bedroom with a large window allowing lots of natural light in.
The master bedroom on the first floor features a king-size bed, bedside tables with lamps, built-in wardrobes, and a large window overlooking the garden area. The second bedroom is cosy with a 4ft (small) double bed, a bedside table with lamp, built-in wardrobe and a small window behind the bed with a roller blind. The third bedroom is ideal for children, with two single beds separated by a bedside table with lamp, a large chest, and there’s a large window with a roller blind to one side of the room. The family bathroom located on the first floor is modern and bright, with a walk-in shower, WC, wash hand basin with mirror, and a heated towel rail.
The rear backyard is fenced off for safety and is entirely private. The large patio space is a sun trap and is perfect for al-fresco meals and evening drinks after your adventures in Cardiff centre. At the front of the property, there’s a large driveway that accommodates two vehicles, as well as on-street parking options.
Guest Access:
You'll have access to the whole home, garden and driveway. Please note, there is no guest access to the garage.
The Neighborhood:
Penylan is situated in the east of the Welsh capital, Cardiff. It’s an affluent area known for its green avenues and parks, and is within easy access to Cardiff city centre, whilst simultaneously set apart from the hustle and bustle. Penylan Hill affords fantastic views over the city centre, the Bay, and the Bristol Channel.
At nearby Waterloo Gardens, the haphazard arrangement of shops and the beautiful teahouse are the reminders of this small village from bygone years, now one of Cardiff’s gems. With green spaces and Victorian architecture all around, this is a very sought after, cool area, benefitting from being within walking distance of the city centre while being a safe community for your stay.
Of course, a restful evening should always follow a day of adventure, and Cardiff has plenty to keep you entertained. The eleventh-largest city in the UK is also one of the friendliest and easiest to navigate, with culture, history, sport, and shopping at its core.
You can’t visit Cardiff without a tour of its medieval castle. Originally a motte and bailey castle, its splendid stone defensive walls are a 12th century addition to the landmark at the heart of the capital. It’s now a tourist attraction with an interpretation centre marking its 2,000-year history. Come on the right weekend, and you’ll find festivals and musical performances held in the substantial grounds.
A mere few streets away and you’re deep in the heart of this vibrant, multicultural city. There are eateries galore, serving everything from sushi to curry to traditional Welsh food. Spend an afternoon perusing one of the seven Victorian and Edwardian arcades running like veins through the high street. The Royal Arcade is the oldest of these impressive walled mazes, dating back to 1858, where a stop at Wally’s Delicatessen is a must.
Two of Cardiff’s largest venues, the Principality Stadium, and the Motorpoint
Arena are both situated in the centre of the city and within a 15-minute walking distance from your accommodation. If you’re a fan of sports, then head to the home of Welsh rugby at the Principality. If you’re not, though, do check the dates of matches before you book your stay as the centre of town becomes built up around these times.
The Motorpoint Arena hosts big bands, comedy acts, and live theatre all year round and has restaurants and bars to accommodate an entire evening of fun.
If you can’t find the right bar or restaurant for you in the city centre, head down to Cardiff Bay, Europe’s largest waterfront development. Hop on a train from Cardiff Central and you’re there in minutes. From the Bay, you can take a boat out onto the freshwater lake, take a trip out to Flat Holm Island, or marvel at the Wales Millenium Centre, home of the capital’s performing arts. Grab an award-winning meal at Mermaid Quay before heading back to your accommodation to relax and unwind.
