About this property

Country Winemakers House with Stunning Views

Note: Because of the nature of the terraced garden this property is not suitable for children under the age of 12.

Situated in the tiny hamlet of Orches, nestled high in the hills above Auxey Duresses and St Romain, this wonderfully large and charming 16th century stone winemakers house with its terraced garden and pool deck commands stunning views of the valley below.

The property has two large bedrooms and sleeps up to 4 people.

Whilst Orches itself has no facilities, it lies a mere 10 minute drive from Meursault, Puligny Montrachet, Nolay and Beaune where there are plenty of restaurants, shops and bars and of course plenty of great wine to sample.

The front door opens into a dining room with original stone flagged floors, character fireplace and air conditioning. Through the door from the dining room is the fully equipped kitchen with LaCanche range, dishwasher, fridge freezer and Nespresso and drip coffee machines. An informal dining table sits on a slightly raised deck with porthole windows providing a view of the hamlet and valley.

The large lounge with wood burning stove and stunning original wooden beams lies beyond the kitchen. Picture windows again provide stunning views over the valley and garden. There is a television and CD/DVD player.

Stairs lead from the dining room lead up to the master bedroom with high wooden beams and an attached study area. There is a ceiling fan and a portable air conditioning unit.
The small bathroom lies beyond with corner bath and shower. The washing machine and tumble dryer are in an alcove in the bathroom.

Stairs down from the kitchen lead to very large second bedroom, with a Burgundian tiled floor and double bed and separate bathroom with double sink and separate shower. Access from the house to the road is possible from this floor so can bikes can be easily stored if required.

Stairs lead up to the master bedroom with high wooden beams and an attached study area. The small bathroom lies beyond with corner bath and shower. The washing machine and tumble dryer are in an alcove in the bathroom. There is a ceiling fan and a portable air conditioning unit.

The garden with its heated pool, is accessed from the kitchen and is on three levels. The first, on a level with the house, has a large, tiled outside dining area with gas barbeque. The second level has a small potager and flowering plants and the third contains the pool deck with loungers and occasional tables and chairs.

The house has fibre WiFi, gas fired central heating and a parking area located about 50 yards from the property.

About the host

Hosted by Steve Powell

Host profile image
We are Steve and Jill Powell, originally from Oxford in the UK but now full time Burgundy residents. We have lived in Santenay for the past few years and we have owned and operated Location Burgundy for nearly all of that time. All the properties that we manage have been renovated to a high standard and our owners take as much pride in presenting and maintaining their homes as we do in providing a quality holiday experience for our guests. We are firm believers in ‘the personal touch’ so we visit each property on the morning a guest arrives to make sure that they are set up to the standard that we would expect. We also deliver a welcome pack of local items for our guests to enjoy as they start to relax into their holiday.

Our property management services are end to end so start with routine maintenance and preparation for the season, responding to guest requests and enquiries, processing reservations and finally being able to welcome our guests to Burgundy. Living so close to our properties allows us to be able to respond quickly if the need arises.

All of our properties lie in the wine villages between Beaune and Chagny, with the majority in Pommard, Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. We have struck up a number of partnerships with our favourite local businesses and the details of those are both on the website and in the comprehensive Housebooks in each of the properties, together with details of local facilities and suggestions for things to do. We also have a network of skilled artisans just in case we encounter a problem during a guest stay.

We hope that you choose to holiday here in Burgundy. It really is the most wonderfully relaxed and interesting region to explore and the locals are always delighted to show off their wine and other locally grown produce.

We look forward to meeting you.

Why they chose this property

A charming house ideal for people that enjoy the peace and quiet. All the famous wine villages are within very easy reach and Beaune is just 15 minutes away.
