About this property

O Muiño de Pena

An old mill and sawmill steeped in history, housing an ethnographic museum where the past blends with the present in this iconic building that’s over 200 years old. The soothing sound of the Mera River waterfall, less than two metres away, helps guests feelimmerse themselves in a magical place surrounded by pure Galician history
Located 3 km from the Camino de Santiago and 7 km from Lavacolla Airport, it’s the perfect spot for a well-deserved rest during the final leg of the Camino or to bid farewell to the idyllic Galician countryside before boarding your flight.
Transport from the Camino is free for our guests—just call the inn.
The kitchen serves dishes that blend tradition with a touch of modernity, using top-quality ingredients.

O Muiño de Pena is one of the best rural inns you’ll find in all of Galicia, where you can enjoy a special final night on the Camino (2.8 km) or simply immerse yourself in Galician culture at our ethnographic museum, set in a setting of great natural beauty on the banks of the Mera River and just 6 km from the airport.
Transport from the Camino de Santiago (km 19) is free for our guests—just call the house.
In Galicia’s best-preserved mill, past and present come together; in its ethnographic museum—the only one of its kind in the country—you’ll see exhibits showcasing the four trades that were once practised on the property: miller, carpenter, blacksmith, and sawmill operator, not to mention the significance of linen production, with pieces collected over more than three centuries by the Pena family up to modern times; Solar panels to heat water, a central vacuum system, heated walls, and fog-free mirrors help highlight the contrast between the old and the new, ensuring that your experience at O Muíño de Pena will remain one of the fondest memories of your trip to Galicia.

We are located 1.8 km from the Camino de Santiago, 6 km from Lavacolla Airport, and 1 km from a river beach; in the municipality we have a 4th-century Roman bridge, petroglyphs, the Church of Lardeiros—better known as the “cathedral of the mountain,” as the poet Aurelio Ribalta described the landscape of O Pino—the Chapel of Santa Irene, in Arca is another of our nearby attractions, and if you’re interested in historic manors, three of the most notable in the region are the Pazo del Marqués de Montesacro, the Pazo de Porto Outeiro, and the Pazo de Picón.
From the house, we organise all kinds of active tourism activities: rafting, hydrospeed, horseback riding, paragliding and hang gliding, paintball, canyoning, canoeing, kitesurfing, hiking, rock climbing, long rappels, zip-lining, and multi-adventure packages. We also host bachelor and hen nights by reserving all the rooms in the house.
