About this property

Charming restored Victorian Farmhouse and cottage on a large rural lot.

Is owning an historic house on your wish list? Here is an opportunity to see what it is like for a few days. This gorgeous restored Victorian farmhouse, circa 1880, is available as a vacation rental in Como, NC (located in the Northeast corner of NC four miles south of the Virginia state line). The Buckhorn Baptist Church had this story-and-a-jump frame house built around 1880 to house its minister. The house’s understated decorative features include a front gable with simple ornament, diamond shaped louvered vents in the end gables of the triple-A roof and corbeled and paneled brick chimneys. Tapered posts with molded caps are featured on the front porch. The house has weatherboard siding and a front entry with sidelights. Four bedrooms and two and half baths, great room with wood stove, eat-in kitchen, laundry room, screened back porch, and patio provide our visitors with plenty of room to relax. Comfortably sleeps eight in the main house and two in the cottage. Fully equipped updated farmhouse style kitchen includes range, refrigerator, dishwasher and eat-in area for four. Large landscaped yard (surrounded by farmer s fields), provides extra parking for RVs, boats and trailers. Lovingly restored throughout. Central heat/ac, bed linens and towels provided. This is the perfect place for a romantic weekend for two, a small family reunion, a girl’s getaway or just a relaxing week away from the hustle and bustle of everyday living. For an exciting excursion, take a ride on Parkers Ferry, one of NC’s three remaining cable ferries. There are boat ramps six miles north and south of the property providing easy access to boating and good fishing. Historic Murfreesboro with its walkable historic district, restaurants and shopping is just six miles south. Franklin, Virginia is 12 miles to the north. Other nearby attractions include the Sylvan Heights Bird Park, national parks.

Pleasant stay
My friend & I found the B&B to be as advertised. We were in and out during our 2-night visit, so we didn't have time to take advantage of the games and reading material, etc. but we rested & slept well! The property's close access to US 258 means that guests with activities in Franklin VA or Murfreesboro NC or inbetween will find it an attractive choice.

Chowan Caper
The home was nice, but there was a drowned mouse in the master bathroom, and the bedding in both rooms was damp. However, it was an adventure and we were close to my niece and enjoyed our visit!

Our Stay at the Rectory
Overall the home gave us what we needed in Como (which is also my family's home city when it was called Maney's Neck) since the 1800's. My Uncle Colin's house, just a quarter mile away, brought back many memories on his farm when I was a child. Pros: Ms. Ruth was VERY responsive and easy to get in touch with. Very quiet neighborhood. Lovely outdoor garden. Shower pressure and temperature was AMAZING. Cons: Definitely old. Can use more updating while respecting the integrity of the history of the home. Mattresses can be a lot better. For older family members, certain structural elements can create a falls hazard for the elderly. Otherwise, we're appreciative of the stay. Thank you Ms. Ruth.

Quiet getaway at a great price
Check in was a very simple process. For the age of the home and property we were very impressed with the cleanliness of the house. Plenty of space for each of us, and enjoyed the company of the local Cat. Would definitely recommend this property to anyone who visits that part of the state.

Beautiful historic property, amazing hosts!
My husband and I enjoyed spending the week at this beautiful, quiet home while we were working in nearby Franklin, VA. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful, and the home itself had every amenity necessary and then some. We would definitely stay again!!
