We were in town during the watermelon festival.. The whole town is full of history and charm. The home is such a hidden gem. Neighbors are friendly and the home is well kept and clean.
My husband and I enjoyed spending the week at this beautiful, quiet home while we were working in nearby Franklin, VA. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful, and the home itself had every amenity necessary and then some. We would definitely stay again!!
House was quaint and very clean. Lots of attention to details and absolutely everything provided for a comfortable stay. Very impressed and appreciative of the gift basket. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return.
Check in was a very simple process. For the age of the home and property we were very impressed with the cleanliness of the house. Plenty of space for each of us, and enjoyed the company of the local Cat. Would definitely recommend this property to anyone who visits that part of the state.
We had a great stay! Ruth truly is a super host! She bent over backwards when we accidently got locked out. The property is cute, quaint, and comfortable. We had everything we need, and I highly recommend!
The location/house was everything the description stated it was and more than expected in this historic house where you are reminded of simpler times. The backyard landscaping was beautiful and provided the ideal setting for my daughter and I to stare gaze. The host even left a great welcome basket for our stay which was very much appreciated -- great personal touch to our stay.

Thank you Leon. Glad you got to see the stars. You are right it is a great place for that. We have a friend who brongs his group down with their telescopes. Hope you will come back again.
My friend & I found the B&B to be as advertised. We were in and out during our 2-night visit, so we didn't have time to take advantage of the games and reading material, etc. but we rested & slept well! The property's close access to US 258 means that guests with activities in Franklin VA or Murfreesboro NC or inbetween will find it an attractive choice.
Nice old home in a quite town (pop. 64) about 20 minutes south of Franklin VA. The house has a lot of character reflecting that it is 140+ years old, with bedroom 3 & 4 upstairs. Note that typical for houses this old, the ceilings are a little low upstairs. Well stocked kitchen, nice sitting area in the living room, and a quite back porch. For us, this is close to family and we will definitely stay gain.
The home was nice, but there was a drowned mouse in the master bathroom, and the bedding in both rooms was damp. However, it was an adventure and we were close to my niece and enjoyed our visit!

Connie, I wish you had contacted me. I have housekeeping staff near at hand and they would have been happy to correct anything you felt was not right. We pride ourselves on having everything just right for our guests so they can enjoy their stay and be comfortable. I apologize for any inconvenience.
We had a family wedding to attend who live in the area and we’re looking for a place close by. The house fit our needs perfectly. We were comfortable and had everything we needed. The drive was easy to Murfreesboro. We would come back to this property as it was quiet and relaxing and had a lot of zones in the house to spread out. They owners of the house were great to reach out to make sure we had all the information we needed.
This is likely the best short-term rental around - it was clean, in a nice, safe area, the owners communicative and helpful. I loved the veggie garden and all the cute decorative items throughout the house. But in all honesty, the place was in dire need of extensive (& undoubtedly expensive) repairs. While I can appreciate all the hard work the owners have done already to bring it back from a pile of rubble (as detailed in the book supplied), much needs to be done by skilled tradesmen to truly bring this property up to standards.

Karen this house is 140+ years old. I am not sure what it is you feel needs extensive repair. It has all new floors, new windows, new plumbing, new heat and air, a new kitchen, etc. It will never be a new modern house. We are honoring its history and trying to preserve its past
Sorry if you were expecting something new and slick
Hey- the house is cute and quaint- perfectly the right size for 7 of us! The host Ruth was always quick to answer any questions - very attentive and we loved that! The outside patio and porch were great- and seeing cotton and peanut fields all around were so scenic!! Easy to walk around a bit!! Loved the extra cottage out back as my hubby used it for a zoom session with Wm and Mary!
Might want to add grab bars and/or a mat in the downstairs shower. Also, watch out between rooms- raised unexpected thresholds! And lots of steps to reach upstairs bedrooms!! Kitchen was delightful to cook in and delicious snacks left by Ruth! All in all, our stay was very enjoyable!!!
Overall the home gave us what we needed in Como (which is also my family's home city when it was called Maney's Neck) since the 1800's. My Uncle Colin's house, just a quarter mile away, brought back many memories on his farm when I was a child.
Pros: Ms. Ruth was VERY responsive and easy to get in touch with. Very quiet neighborhood. Lovely outdoor garden. Shower pressure and temperature was AMAZING.
Cons: Definitely old. Can use more updating while respecting the integrity of the history of the home. Mattresses can be a lot better.
For older family members, certain structural elements can create a falls hazard for the elderly.
Otherwise, we're appreciative of the stay. Thank you Ms. Ruth.
Easy, early check in to a lovely older home with great history - and cotton fields out the back door. Very quiet and peaceful. Coffee bar, a basket of snacks and other nice touches by the owner. If it had been warmer we could have enjoyed one of the three outdoor seating areas. Everything one could possibly need was at our fingertips. Would definitely stay here again.
I would definitely rent again. The property manager stayed in full contact with us at all times. If we had a problem or question she just a phone call away!
This property was just "beautiful". House was very clean and accomadable for our family. Furniture is a little outdated, but to be expected for a country setting. All amenities and toiletries needed to stay were available. Grocery shopping was fairly close by. Beautiful scenery sitting on back porch listening to nature. Wish there was wifi and a television in every room for the kiddos and game systems for those that aren't country ready to stay entertained. This is a wonderful property and setting for those looking to just enjoy the peace and nature away from big cities. We traveled from CT so this was close to where we needed to be for a funeral, but vacation wise, I would def rent again. And Mrs. Ruth Akwright, the owner was super nice and very responsive quickly. She was even kind enough to leave us a goodie basket. Would definitely rent again!!
Nice Getaway to allow us to participate in our Daughters Senior Day at Chowan University. Home provided a very nice place to stay with a little history too.
Highly recommend. Host was very friendly and communication was excellent. House was much larger than we needed as there was only the two of us, but it was a warm and cozy environment.

Why they chose this property
Como is a very small rural area with a rich history. It is quiet and peaceful. It is essentially a farming area with farmers growing corn, cotton and soy beans.
What makes this property unique
The house was built in the late 1800's as the rectory for the nearby Buckhorn Baptist Chruch and used to house the pastors until the new rectory was built next door in 1950.
