Jericho is a historic suburb of Oxford, a short walk from the city centre with its historic buildings, colleges, museums and shops. The neighbourhood has a range of independent shops, cafés, restaurants, a cinema and bars and has an off-beat vibe. Many roads in Jericho have featured in the TV drama Inspector Morse. We recommend Gail's Bakery on Little Clarendon Street, the Jericho Café and Branca Italian Deli and Restaurant, both at the end of Observatory Street. The train station is just fifteen minutes walk away and the bus station around ten minutes walk.

Oxford is a small city so you can get to most places by walking. The central bus station is located on George Street, from where you can get a bus to the surrounding areas, as well as London and southern airports. The main train station is on New Road and has access to London in about an hour.

Lovely home in perfect location
I was a guest at 33 Observatory St. in January, February and early March while I was a visiting researcher during Hilary term. The house was perfect for me, my wife and our guests. When we had people over we used the excellent kitchen with two ovens and microwave, dishwasher and convection stove top. We twice had dinners for eight and were able to seat everyone comfortably at a great table by the door to the garden. When we had evenings at home we spent them by the fire in the lovely snug room at the front of the house. The vibrant neighborhood of Jericho was a pleasure as well. Literally two minutes’ walk away were two great cafés, one with a fine deli, plus a great Greek deli and fine Indian restaurant, a superb bistro and a lovely pub. I loved best the separate small house at the bottom of the garden – a ten by ten foot warm writing room with one wall of glass – a perfect retreat which I shall miss very much. Our hostess, Rosie, was tremendously helpful and welcoming. When I return to Oxford I will certainly be in touch with her again.

Why they chose this property

This is a special property offering luxury living close to the heart of the city. All Oxford's attractions are within a short walk from the house, which is located in Jericho, a neighbourhood with thriving retailers and businesses, trendy bars, fabulous restaurants and handy small supermarkets and Delicatessens.

What makes this property unique

Luxury city living in the heart of Oxford, this property offers both convenient location and luxury. The house was recently remodelled and designed to allow in as much light as possible. The south-facing garden is a sun-trap, offering comfortable seating and space to enjoy a meal.

The house is exceptionally well located, both for exploring Oxford, accessing the train and bus stations and for exploring Port Meadow, with walks up to the Trout pub in Wolvercote.

There are many places to eat within a few minutes walk of the house, including Raymond Blanc's Brasserie Blanc, Branca Deli and Restaurant, the Jericho Café and Gail's Bakery.

Oxford is a small city and it is often easiest to get around by foot. However, a train will get you to London in around an hour.
