Set in the former Grade II listed Cockermouth Grammar School, Caretakers Cottage is a delightful and welcoming 2 Bed apartment to sleep 4. The property is perfectly situated on the southern edge of Cockermouth only 10 minute walk away and within easy reach of Lake District National Park. With its own private entrance, high ceilings, sash windows and retaining many original features the property has a lovely warm and comfortable feel. On entering Caretakers Cottage on the ground floor you will find a boot/shoe rack and coat hooks with quarry tiled floor leading towards the staircase with original spindles dating back to 1884 which takes you up to the main living area with light and airy landing perfect for enjoying a quiet read with the sun streaming in through the large sash windows, double aspect lounge with large bay window, smart TV with Netflix and free Wi-Fi, spacious well equipped kitchen/diner, 2 double bedrooms, one of which is king-size and the other a twin room , bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle, toilet, sink and vanity unit, allocated parking for 2 cars, lockable secure storage for bikes and private 7kw EV car charging point. Caretakers Cottage is a perfect bolthole for a relaxing time while exploring the Lake District.

Strictly No Pets, Smoking or Vaping permitted in the property.
Due to on-site rules NO CAMPERVANS OR COMMERCIAL VEHICLES ARE PERMITTED TO PARK IN THE GROUNDS OVERNIGHT. Your vehicle must be moved and parked on Strawberry How Road.

Caretakers Cottage
We stayed here for five nights, cannot fault anything. The apartment was clean, warm and spacious. Would recommend to anyone. In fact it was so comfortable we only ate out once!

Perfect place to stay
Caretakers Cottage certainly took care of all our needs as a family and we couldn’t have been happier with the accommodation. It was perfect for us in every way and we hope that we left it in the immaculate state that we found it. It’s definitely somewhere we would stay again! We were so lucky to have stayed here: a perfect place in a perfect location…the perfect retreat after climbing some of the Lake District’s fells. Thank you.

Relaxing break
Location was perfect for accessing walks of all levels. Love that it was only a short walk into Cockermouth centre where there was a good choice of supermarkets and places to eat. The apartment was spotlessly clean and super comfortable with everything you’d need in a home from home. Communication from Clare was clear and timely including a very kind gift on arrival. We would not hesitate recommend and can’t wait to return!

We moved to Cockermouth in 2019 having spent many happy times in the Lake District. Cockermouth is a friendly and welcoming town with great shops, places to eat and all the excitement of the Lake District National Park only a very short drive away.

Why they chose this property

The character, style, high ceilings, light and airy rooms and the original features of the building including one of only two remaining original fireplaces which dates back to 1881 are what made us fall in love with this property and hopefully our guests will enjoy it too.
