Super break with my two sisters

This was a return visit to Ardmore Cottage. I had stayed with my wife a few years ago and knew what an excellent choice it would be for my two sisters. As well as enjoying the spacious and well equipped cottage, the range of grocery shopping in the village is amazing for somewhere so small. And Caitriona could not have been a more helpful host. Highly recommended!

Why they chose this property

Muff Village offers the best of both Donegal and Derry, all from one relaxed, welcoming base. Muff is located in Inishowen, Co. Donegal, right where the Wild Atlantic Way meets the Causeway Coastal Route, making it an ideal starting (or finishing) point for two of Ireland’s most iconic coastal journeys.

What we love most is the unique border location. From the village, you can be on a Donegal beach, a forest walk, or inside the historic walls of Derry City in minutes. It’s a place where you can enjoy peaceful village life while having easy access to culture, history, festivals, shopping, restaurants and some of the most dramatic scenery on the island.

Inishowen is known for its unspoilt coastline, quiet beaches, hill and coastal walks, and friendly communities, while Derry adds energy, arts, food and heritage. Both Donegal and Derry are now regularly featured in top travel lists and destination guides for their scenery, culture, food and outdoor experiences - and this corner of the North West offers something special in every season.

Muff itself is a great base: everything in the village is walkable, yet you’re never far from adventure. Whether guests are here for touring, golf, walking, family attractions or simply to relax and unwind, it’s a location that suits all ages and interests.

We have two properties in Muff Village - Ardmore Cottage and The Wee House - so if one is unavailable, guests are welcome to check the other at Muff Holiday Cottages fb. They both offer the same great location and an ideal base for exploring this beautiful part of Ireland.

What makes this property unique

Ardmore Cottage combines a central village location with space, privacy and comfort. Guests can walk to cafés, pubs, shops and restaurants, yet still enjoy an elevated setting with a fully fenced private garden - ideal for families and those who value outdoor space.

The cottage is Fáilte Ireland Quality Approved and holds the Wild Atlantic Way Quality Mark, giving guests added reassurance about standards and comfort. Inside, the house is spacious, well maintained and thoughtfully equipped for real stays, not just short visits - with a large living room, a cosy wood-burning stove, a modern kitchen and practical extras like a utility room.

What many guests appreciate most is that Ardmore Cottage is family-friendly with room for everyone to relax and a safe outdoor space for children.

Its location is another key difference. Being based in Muff means guests can easily explore Inishowen, Derry City, the Causeway Coast and the wider North West without long drives or constantly packing up and moving accommodation.

Finally, we’re local hosts and genuinely enjoy sharing this area with visitors. We’re happy to provide local tips, walking ideas and day-trip suggestions, helping guests make the most of their stay. We also offer a second nearby property in the village, which is helpful for families or groups travelling together.
