About this property

Canal side cottage with hot tub, sky tv and log fire

Top Locks Cottage is a lovely former Canal Worker's Cottage situated on the banks of the Leeds Liverpool Canal in a beautiful conservation area. Overlooking fields and canals, the cottage is stunning in all seasons, a perfect base for exploring the area. Ideal for a family or couples break with touches of luxury including a hot tub and outdoor bbq deck. There's a cosy log burning fire, a fully equipped kitchen, pet-friendly garden, car parking, and keyless entry for self check-in.

The cottage has all home comforts, 2 King bedrooms, outdoor deck area, car parking, and a TV with Sky (plus Sky Sports) Netflix and Wifi for cosy nights in front of the fire, and a hot tub to relax in after a day exploring the area. You can enjoy complimentary welcome hamper, tea and coffee, and try your hand at making lattes with the Nespresso machine.

The outdoor deck area features a wood fired hot tub with led lights and bubble jets, a bbq and comfortable outdoor seating. For the more adventurous, we have bikes and outdoor games for guest use, as well as paddle boards and a Canadian canoe available to reserve for a small charge.

Available for guest use are luxury, sustainable and vegan Bath House products in the kitchen and bathroom, as well as conveniences such as hairdryer, towels and many home comforts. There's indoor and outdoor games and toys available for kids (and those young at heart!) as well as a curated Lancashire Library featuring tales, authors and recipes from the county.

The area of Top Locks is located a 10 minute walk (or 2 minute drive) from the local village of Burscough, that has a rich offering of pubs, restaurants, and local shops. Burscough Wharf is a covered former canal side building that hosts a delightful array of shops, bars and restaurants, as well as seasonal farmers markets throughout the year. In the immediate area, attractions include Martin Mere Wetland Centre, Windmill Animal Farm, Mere Sands Woods, Rufford Old Hall. You can reach local attractions with a short drive, such as Formby Beach and Squirrel Reserve in around 30 minutes, Southport in 30 minutes, Blackpool in around 40 minutes, Liverpool in 30 minutes or Manchester in around 40 minutes.

There are several walks right on the doorstep of the property, and the area has always been popular with locals and visitors alike. There are also plenty of cycling routes nearby. The Ship Inn is on the opposite side of the canal bank, and boasts a fantastic reputation in the local area for serving quality food and beer. If you fancy a night in, an honesty bar is available with wines and spirits.

There is a keypad on the front door for easy self check in and parking available right outside the front door.

We are pet friendly, as are many of the pubs in the local area, including The Ship Inn opposite!

Parking available at the front of the property for one large car or two small/medium cars.

Keyless entry - we'll provide you with an access code prior to check in, so you can arrive at any time that is convenient for you. If there is anything at all that I can help you with, please just ask.

Security - we have 2 external security cameras, one at the front and one at the rear. They are not used to monitor guests, but to act as a deterrent from members of the public approaching the property.

Luxurious and Cosy cottage
We had a lovely stay in the cottage this weekend. The cottage is so lovely and cosy with lots of luxurious finishes. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch and full of goodies! The hosts clearly made a lot of effort to make us feel welcome, even bought some treats for our dog! The host Amy was very responsive to any queries about the property too, which was reassuring. The wood fired hot tub was amazing! It did take a lot of effort to get it ready for use but it was worth it and stayed hot for a long time. We had a very enjoyable stay, and would love to return in the summer if we get chance :)
