About this property

Cozy Cove Chapel on Chisel Beach Portland

Built from stone in the 1800s the Cozy Cove Chapel offers a quirky holiday home with the perfect blend of period features and luxury accommodation. The large original restored Chapel windows give fantastic views of the isle of Portland and give a light and spacious feel.

The Chapel is located 5 meters from the famous chisel beach world heritage site, with its own private access and in the heart of Portland. It offers sea views, off road parking, 3 bedrooms, and large open plan living/dinning area.

The local area has many cafe's, pubs, and restaurants to chose from and offers plenty to do. There's some spectacular sites to see including the 300 year old bill lighthouse, stone sculptures in Tout Quarry, and of course the incredible views and sunsets. For an action packed stay there's cycling, hiking, kite surfing, fishing, watersports, bird watching and the national sailing club (home of the 2012 Olympics)

The Chapel has been newly renovated and furnished in August 2022. The master bedroom has a king size bed that can be configured for 2 singles (please let us know in advance). The second double bedroom has see views and a double bed located upstairs. The smaller bedroom has a single car themed bed and is suitable for children only due to low ceiling height. The open plan living/dinner has a large double sofa bed.

The property has a modern kitchen with new appliances throughout and new bathroom complete with bath and shower. Upstairs is an additional small toilet.

Please note the property has off road parking for one vehicle but does have a free car park opposite for additional vehicles. To access the property there is a flight of stairs leading up from the private entrance. The Chapel is professionally cleaned and sanitized after each stay with fresh bedding and towels provided. Please bring your own beach towels.

Check in was good, the cottage was ideally located for local beach walks and a short drive to Weymouth and other areas in Portland. Great fish restaurant (Rockfish) in Weymouth - a must visit! Overall, good value for money.

I hate not giving 5 stars in reviews, but we were a bit disappointed with this accommodation. Positives were that the hosts communicated well and the location was really lovely - right next to the water. However, there was not much within a walkable distance for food & drink unless you booked the pub close by which you really need to do in advance. Furthermore, some of the facilities provided could have been improved - one of the bedrooms (kids room) has no windows and the other loft room has a bit of a dodgy blind. The towels were also quite think and not very big - I'd bring my own if I was going again. Lastly, whilst the beds were comfortable they weren't very big for 2 people sharing. I think the listing states that 1 of the beds is a king but it's 2 twin beds pushed together. Sorry, I hope the feedback is useful.

Property was clean, well maintained and we had everything we needed. Thank you. The kids loved it (6 and 8yrs) and having the two toilets proved super useful! The beach area out the back of the property is wild and very exposed to the elements which was a lovely experience for the boys although not somewhere we would pitch up for the morning. I probably should have done better research on that. Weymouth is very near and more suitable for a family beach day when you have the weather for it. It was still lovely to see a coastline like that, the sound of the crashing waves was unreal even though we live by the sea ourselves...! A few small things to improve on (e.g.new pans in kitchen and summer duvet in June instead of winter) but my suggestions were well received by the host so I'm sure they will be followed up. Portland Bill lighthouse and the castle are well worth a visit on the island as is Sandworld in Weymouth. All great for younger families and keeping kids entertained. Sandworld Sculpture park is all undercover so really really great on a rainy day (this should go into the family section in the property book as I don't think I saw it in there). Note to fellow travellers, eateries are closed on the island on Mondays so you need to drive to Weymouth (5-10min) if you want to eat out. Even the local Chippie is closed!
