About this property

Rural, eclectic, 2 bedroom cottage near Ballantrae, pet friendly!

Built in the 1840s, Tig Cottage has seen some history. It's been home to labourers, craftsmen and their families...and now
is a beautiful place for you to retreat, relax, reset and revive yourself!

Here, deep in the heart of the River Stinchar valley, shielded from the outside world by the bulk of Knockdolian hill to one side, and the tempestuous sea on the other, you can spend peaceful days, surrounded by nature, under the trees, listening to birdsong and our burbling river, just taking time for you.

And when you've relaxed enough, Tig Cottage is the perfect base to explore the mysterious rugged coastline, rolling hills and historic homes and castles of Ayrshire and the Scottish Southern Uplands.

At night, you can experience the true majesty of the galaxy under our Dark Skies, with plenty of stargazing opportunities, whilst the endangered pipistrelle bats swoop and soar in the sky above you.

My name's Vic, and I want you to have a wonderful holiday here at Tig Cottage. I've put together a relaxing, peaceful home in rural South Ayrshire.

Why they chose this property

My family lived in this area of Scotland in the 1840s - perhaps that's why it feels so perfect to me. Tig Cottage dates from the same period in history, it has been home to craftsman, labourers, families and even a famous painter and ceramicist, Robert Sinclair Thomson, who painted from the garden here in the cottage.

What makes this property unique

A day at Tig Cottage starts with waking to daylight streaming in through the bedroom's velux windows. Come downstairs and have a tasty breakfast at the chunky wooden table in the dining room, or maybe sit in the garden listening to the birds greet the day. Have a refreshing shower in the bathroom and then it's definitely time to start the day! Maybe you're going to relax at the cottage - in which case, choose a book from our selection of classics, snuggle up in the reading chair, or lounge comfortably on the sofa, and experience what it's like to truly unplug from the world and escape into a novel.

Or perhaps you are on a working break - in which case that chunky table works really well as a desk. Connect to the wifi network (it reaches into the dining room) and set some music playing on the stereo, and you've all you need to work remotely in this beautiful area of Scotland. Be careful if you have a Zoom call with your video on, though, you might make your colleagues jealous!

Maybe you're going out to explore. Will it be the coast, steeped in history, or perhaps the majestic hills and mountains that crown the Southern Uplands? Maybe you'll take a day trip to Glasgow, or Edinburgh, or even take the ferry to Belfast for the day.

Whatever your day holds, the evening is when Tig Cottage is really magical. Light a fire as night draws in, and watch the flicker of the flame's shadows as the living room becomes truly magical. Maybe you'll choose to go outside, and gaze up at the stars that are so much brighter here due to the dark skies. Maybe you'll see shooting stars, or just trace out the constellations in all their glory under the light of the moon. Perhaps you'll see the endangered pipistrelle bats that swoop and soar at night, or hear the hooting of an owl, summoning in the night. And when you finally turn in for the night, you can hear the river's lullaby, singing you to a deep and restful sleep.
