About this property
Beautiful, country style cottage near the windmill, polder and windmill view
On a unique location, in the Green Heart of the Netherlands, on the edge of Alphen aan den Rijn, a splendid cottage was built and opened in 2014. The cottage is cozy and picturesque, decorated in country style; a place to enjoy and to relax. Situated nearby the windmill, you can see the windmill to one side and the beautiful polder landscape to the other side, where in summertime, cows and sheep graze outside. The cottage is surrounded by 3 terrasses.
The cottage is adjusted for 4 persons, of course less is also possible. The mentioned price is based on a maximum of 4 persons. An extension up to 6 persons is possible by use of one extra bedroom, or up to 8 persons by connecting the next door apartment, by way of an inside door. For more then 4 persons another price is applied. For more information about the extra bedroom or apartment, please ask your question on the 'Contact' page.
The cottage and the connected house are built in nostalgic country style, in perfect harmony with the windmill and the landscape. Lots of old materials have been used, like beams, bricks and the rooftiles of the former old cowshed.
On the groundfloor there is a cozy double bedstead (160 x 210 cm) and above of this bedstead it is possible for one or two children to sleep. This is an extra sleeping possibility, children don't have to sleep there. The space above the bed on top is limited because of the ceiling. All matresses are of good quality.
There is also a complete modern kitchen, a dining table and a cozy lounge area on the ground floor. There is also a bathroom with a shower and a seperate toilet.
On the first floor is a bedroom with two single beds. The boxsprings and mattrasses are of good quality. We have 'four season' wool duvets on all of the beds.
You are a guest of Hans and Susanne Vrolijk and their two children, the inhabitants of the windmill. Besides his Job as a technician, Hans is the miller of this windmill on a voluntary basis. Susanne Is a portaitpainter. They would be very happy to welcome you!
Ofcourse it is possible to have a look out and inside the windmill, the miller is happy to tell you about its history and function.

We loved the peaceful setting out in the country. It was a great place to unwind. We enjoyed the sheep, swans, and other birds. It was incredible to see a windmill up close out of our windows every day.
We found the cottage very comfortable and quiet. It was in an excellent location for visiting key towns and villages. The children loved the farm animals and outdoor seating areas.
Wow!!!! We love this place!! Hans and his wife and son are wonderful hosts. The cabin is sparkling clean and wonderful. For US users: king size bed upstairs, with optional twin next to the king in the same room. The “box bed” downstairs is a queen size below, and on top would be good for a small child. It does have a mattress on top but it’s under the sloping roof. It was wonderful for us. We didn’t need it but I’m sure the AC both upstairs and downstairs would be wonderful in summer. The views out over the polders landscape are incredible. The view of the windmill is fantastic. The bikes he rented to us worked great to get into town and we felt like we belonged:). 30-35 min to TheHague. 25 min to Schiphol. Thank you Hans!! I hope we can come back.
Fantastic , absolutely fantastic !!!Our host (Hans) was awesome! Easy to communicate with and a flexible check in. Clean , spacious and a great location with parking for our car , there is nothing more we could have needed in our vacation rental. We were with 4 adults and a 3 year old, Hans made us feel at home , with also a tour of the windmill. We also rented bikes from Hans which was wonderful. Thank you so very , this us a wonderful property which I highly recommend to my friends and family !!
Windmill Cottage was a delightfully appointed place to stay for 4 adults. Our host Hans was most helpful in suggesting places to visit and where to eat and we enjoyed looking around his farm. A most enjoyable stay and would highly recommend it for a delightful experience.
The house was fantastic: comfortable and bright, with windows on three sides. The view of the windmill next door was a bonus!Location is superb - close to Amsterdam, Keukenhof, Leiden and Delft. We made good use of the bikes which are available to hire.Hans was a great host - available and friendly.
We have spent a wonderfull time in Hans's cottage. The location is very comfortable and practical with a beautiful view on the countryside. All the great towns ( Gouda, Delft, Amsterdam, la Haye,...) are near (30 to 45 mn by car) so it is very convenient for the visits in the beautiful Holland. Great stay fully recommanded with a great mill to visit !!
This place was perfect for our first visit to the Netherlands.
Hans was a perfect host and even took us inside his home and showed us the inner workings of the windmill at the request of our 12 year old.
Loved coming home to this place in the evening, we would love to come stay here again in the future.
This place was amazing. It was ideal for our family the kids loved it,the windmill cottage has beautiful views of the countryside from every window.

Thank you very much for the nice review. It was a pleasure to receive you as a guest. Kind regards, Hans Vrolijk
Very clean, love the location, the bikes were great, great communication. Definitely has the old school Dutch feeling and we loved it. Great to be out of the touristy part of the Netherlands and get a real feel of the real Holland.
We stayed 6 nights in April. Highly recommended. Small village with a Spar and a bakery/coffee shop on the large canal just a km away. Nice to watch all sizes of boats up the canal. Owner very cordial and helpful. Well located to visit the nearby towns. Peaceful. The windmill is very very interesting.

We came to see the tulip fields and absolutely loved this VRBO. This location was an easy 20-minute drive to Keukenhof. It was nice and quiet. There was a patio where you could relax and enjoy the views. Hans was very friendly and communicative and even arranged a last-minute tour of the windmill for us. Our kids loved the trampoline and the soccer play area. I highly recommend this location. Thank you Hans for such a wonderful stay.

We loved our stay at the Windmill Cottage! Hans was very helpful and welcoming, the cottage was very clean, big, and had everything we needed. The location is very convenient to other parts of Holland, and it was lovely biking in the area with bikes that we could easily and cheaply rent from Hans. The sunsets were amazing, and it was special to see ducks, swans, rabbits, and other animals in this quiet and beautiful area. If we come back to Holland, we will definitely stay here again.

We stayed 4 days in this very lovely place.
We are a big family (2 adults and 5 children), the place is very cozy, we have a lot of place inside the cottage, and also outside (rarely used because of the weather).
Is very close to the old windmill where the cottage owners live.
The owners are very kind persons, and will be happy to give you also information about places to visit during your stay.
We will come back certainly, if we will visit the Netherland again.
This property provides the quintessential Dutch experience - beautiful cottage on the footsteps of a windmill overlooking the Dutch polders with farmland and animals. It’s in a very central but quiet location, with easy access to all the famous sites in Holland. This is my 27th trip to NL and where I chose to introduce my children to my homeland. It exceeded all expectations.
We loved our stay here after 4 busy days in Amsterdam it was the perfect venue and easily accessible to many destinations. The owner was very helpful and easily reached. The only downside perhaps were the beds which were small and a little too hard. The bedroom upstairs also did not have a bathroom nearby. other that that we had a terrific visit! :)

Thank you for staying with us and for the 5 stars! Our beds are 210x90 cm and the mattresses of medium firmness. The furthest distance to the bathroom is 8 meters. Kind Regards Hans
My family and I spent one month at the cottage. We were able to completely relax and really feel like we lived like the Dutch. It’s located just off the beaten path from the big town. Everything is accessible by foot/bike/ or auto. The location is peaceful and we felt very safe. The property has full amenities and is kept up with beautiful gardens. Our host Hans was amazing and accommodating as well. He gave us lots of information and was super helpful on the area, as well as traveling around the country. There is plenty for the kids to do here… we had a teenager and toddlers! Our favorite was bonding with the farm animals and feeding the sheep. We will definitely visit again!
