About this property
Lovely trullo country house, large fenced pool, WiFi, aircon in some rooms.
Trullo Cipresso is a large home in the most desirable part of the famous Trullo country of the Valle d'Itria, in the countryside a few minutes outside beautiful Locorotondo and the World Heritage site at Alberobello.
The Trullo has been sympathetically restored and fully modernised. It is ideal for families, for large groups of friends or simply for those looking for the pleasures of a traditional trullo home but with modern facilities and more space to relax.
There are 5 bedrooms in total, three double, one twin and one quad (2xbunks). There is also a cot and high chair if needed.
The main building has nine trulli cones and features three double/twin bedrooms and one quad bedroom (2 bunk beds), a very well appointed kitchen, a dining room, two sitting rooms (one with TV) and two bathrooms (one with a shower, one with a small bath). Two of the bedrooms, both sitting rooms and one of the bathrooms are under trulli cones, as is part of the kitchen, whilst the remainder of the kitchen and the dining room both have barrel vaulted roofs. The two bedrooms that are not under cones and do not have thick walls to keep them cool have aircon.
Across the ancient stone courtyard is a second building with a double bedroom and en suite shower room. This bedroom also has aircon.
The courtyard is partially shaded by fruit trees, making a wonderful place for lunch or dinner at our stone dining table. Beyond the courtyard is a large pool (10m x 6m), fully fenced and with a large sunbathing area which has recently been extended to allow ample space for sunbeds on the west side of the pool as well as the east. There is also an area with a sail shade. The house is set in an acre of land with pomegranate, fig, cherry, mulberry, apricot, apple and olive trees.
The house and pool area have a (non poisonous) external misting system to deter mosquitoes.
There is off road parking for two cars (three with one obstructing others).
The property's CIS number (Italian holiday property register) is BA0720259100000016613. CIN code is IT072025C200053098.

About the host
Hosted by Owner/Manager

We are three London-based university friends, all professionals, who decided to buy our own piece of Italian sunshine and set out on the journey to find and restore our own trullo. We worked with a friend who is an Italian architect, with a home of her own in Puglia, who had a vision for a major restoration that would combine the simple beauty of a trullo with the practicalities of a home suitable for families and friends. After a year's work Trullo Cipresso was finished and we have been enjoying it ever since. A couple of years later we added the pool, which is a real boon. We have young children, who love the pool and the local beaches, and have also had many friends to stay, of all ages.
Why they chose this property
Having been to Puglia several times and hugely enjoyed it, when some friends bought a house in the same area we found the idea hard to resist and took the plunge. We scoured the area and looked at dozens of trulli, but found most were either too small to make sense for a couple of families holidaying together, or were modern buildings without the trullo's soul. When we found Trullo Cipresso we could see the potential straight away, and with the skills of Giulia, our architect, we set about the transformation. We loved the fact it was in the country but still close to town, and an easy drive from the beaches as well as the cultural sites. Sitting in the courtyard in the evening with a glass of local wine, a bowl of olives, and freshly cooked fish from the oven in the warmth of the summer Puglian air, we are very happy we took the plunge.
What makes this property unique
The first thing that struck us was the beautiful courtyard, which is of old stone and partly shaded by a mass of trees including a huge mulberry, an apricot and a cherry. There are flowers throughout the summer including roses, wisteria and a magnificent bougainvillea which is a wonderful purple in high summer. Inside the house the layout was far more user friendly than any other house we had considered, with the rooms logically laid out and all internally connected apart from the en suite guest bedroom across the courtyard, which could provide a self-contained area of its own. Above all we loved the nine magnificent trullo cones, both from the outside and looking up from several of the rooms to the exposed stone interiors.
