Cave Romana is the north gate of a quarry that once went all the way to the cut cliffs you see on the way to the beach. There were five caves around Pula that the Romans valued for their white stone. Cave Romana was one of these, from which they took the roof, leaving a kind of quarry – hence the name, Roman Hollow. The house is set in the village of Vintijan, 10 minutes from the centre of Pula city and from the beaches Pjescana Uvala, and Veruda. Cave Romana was created from ancient farm buildings, hidden in a hollow formed by the Roman excavation of the precious white stone, over 2000 years ago. The local stone was used in building Venice and the Coliseum in Rome, and our Pula Amphiteatre.
