We booked Albertine Cottage for a week towards the end of a six week tour of France. We chose Dinan largely because of its location in relation to many sights including Mont Saint Michel but five minutes after our arrival, we realised that we had happily happened onto a real gem.
For a start, the accommodation is as comfortable and beautiful as promised by the website photos but you can't appreciate a setting like a medieval film set until you are in it; and the gite is right in the middle of all this!
The website didn't mention the friendly, supportive welcome that you get from Robyn and Ross and their beautiful fluffy dog, Molly.
We had done enough homework to know Dinan is in a wonderful position, but we didn't realise until Robyn and Ross opened our eyes to a wealth of other attractions. Our favourite destinations, other than Le Mont Saint Michel, were day trips to Jersey, St Malo, the D Day beaches and Caen, Bayeaux, the oysters at Cancale, the walk to Léhon, the battlements around Dinan and the markets, particularly at Rennes.
Suffice to say, we stayed two weeks and we are planning to return.
