About the host
Hosted by Natalie
We have been in love with Portugal and exploring this fabulous country since the 1980s. Eventually, we took the plunge and moved here. We choose Tavira as it has beautifully preserved its ancient sophisticated charm and it is also well known for its program of cultural events and festivals throughout the year. Before moving to Tavira we holidayed in over 20 properties throughout the town ourselves. So when it came to creating a holiday let for guests we had a good checklist of what to do and not do! We hope you enjoy Casa Azul as much as we did living there. We now live in our new renovation project - a 132 year old barn on the riverside, just outside Tavira. So, we are on hand should any issues arise or if you would just like a bit of local knowledge…
Why they chose this property
We looked at many properties in the old parts of Tavira town before we eventually brought Casa Azul. It grabbed our hearts because all the rooms were a good size, there were 2 bathrooms, it had a garden (a very rare find) and balcony. Plus it had a 'normal' layout. You didn't have to go through a bedroom to get to the terrace or something, which is very common in old Portuguese houses. Of course, it was very dated with an orange kitchen and a pink bathroom but we could see the potential to make it a beautiful house. The renovation took over 7 months and it was all worth it in the end...
What makes this property unique
Large garden for a townhouse in the old part of Tavira and accessed directly from the kitchen for ease of outside dining
The west-facing balcony is a great place to enjoy a sundowner
Air conditioning and heating in every living and sleeping space
Light and spacious rooms, even the hallways are wide
A consistent interior design style that crosses the entire house, giving a relaxed feel through the use of wood, rattan, and touches of black metal
