About this property

Cosy Cottage, Huge Garden w/ Lake, BBQs & Seating

Summary:
Situated on the outskirts of the charming coastal village of Slapton, you'll have plenty of long beach days, country walks and pretty scenery on your doorstep. But that’s if you can peel yourself away from your own grounds first. The old stone cottage is one of a few so there’s a lovely communal feeling here that’s perfect for families. In the large shared garden, you’ll find a lake, BBQ stations and ample outdoor seating to enjoy. And in the winter, hunker up inside with home-cooked food!

The Space:
If you’re looking for a safe, serene and convenient holiday home where you can keep the doors wide open all day and the kids can run around free range - Maple Cottage is just the one. The apartment is in a 16th-century converted barn and located in a communal holding, where there’s a massive garden equipped with a lake, BBQ stations, play area and ample seating. So it’s perfect for families wanting to enjoy the outdoors. There's also a shared games room perfect for kids. When you’re not at the cottage, head to the nearby coast - Slapton Sands’ 2 mile beach is just down the road. Plus, you’ve got the idyllic town of Salcombe just around the headland and the River Dart estuary a drive away.

Serene and peaceful, the cottage is engulfed in natural beauty. Inside, you’ll find an open-plan kitchen, dining and living room with views of the garden and countryside. Prepare a home-cooked meal in the well-equipped kitchen and enjoy at the table all together. Then it’s time for alfresco drinks in the shared courtyard or a film on the smart TV before retiring to the bedrooms. Made up of two rooms, the master has a double bed whilst the second is a twin. Enjoy plenty of rest in your quiet corner of Devon, the kind you can only really get when you’re away from it all. Free parking is available in the shared driveway.

Guest Access:
Guests have access to the whole apartment in the cottage, plus the spacious communal garden, laundry room and games room.

The Neighborhood:
Maple Cottage is located a short drive away from the charming coastal village of Slapton in Devon’s South Hams district. Situated in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you can expect stunning countryside, rolling hills, a rugged coastline and a beautiful estuary.

In the village itself, you will find a handful of local amenities such as a shop and 2 cosy inns. The expansive 2 mile beach, Slapton Sands is just a short drive away and is backed by the Ley National Nature Reserve. Its safe, clean and calm waters are protected by Lifeguards in the summer, making it the perfect spot for families. Plus, there’s ample opportunities to get active in the water whether it’s surfing, windsurfing or canoeing.

All along this part of the coastline, from Dartmouth to Salcombe, is studded with wonderful beaches. Such as Strete Gate Beach, which is backed by dunes packed with protected flora and fauna as well as Blackpool Sands. Expansive and tucked away, these beaches often feel quiet even in the summer months so you can expect plenty of space to stretch out and relax.

When you’re not sunning on the beach, go explore the picturesque villages in the area. Sitting on the banks of the picturesque River Dart, Dartmouth is a popular spot for sailing fanatics with the famous regatta hosted there every summer. In the south, Salcombe is a must-visit. Enjoy a spot of shopping on the high-street, taste fresh seafood by world-renowned chefs or take the South Sands ferry and enjoy a jaunt on the water. Find more local tips and tricks in our Guest Guide, which is available upon booking.

Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of Devon, we would recommend bringing a car for your stay. There is ample parking for multiple vehicles in the shared driveway.

Other Things to Note:
This is first-floor apartment in a 16th-century converted barn, made up of several other cottages and apartments. It is accessed via a short flight of stairs. There is a coin-operated washing machine in the communal area which is shared between all the cottages and apartments.

A maximum of 2 dogs are welcome on the condition they are kept off sofas & beds, cleaned up after and not left in the property unattended. There is an additional fee of £20/dog (max 2). Please note, the garden is not fully enclosed and there are ducks and chickens roaming free, so dogs must be kept on a lead.

Babies are welcome, however, space is quite tight in the master bedroom so it may be difficult to fit a travel cot.

Nice quiet stay
The property had everything we needed. The bed was comfy. It was a lovely quiet area and the large garden was good for the dogs, although we would normally choose somewhere that has private outside space. Overall we had a lovely week’s stay.

Review Maple Cottage
Very nice cottage, overall satisfied. The location is scenic, rural and quiet, fairly close to the beach. Any trip outside the local area does require some time to get there (Dartmoor or Exeter) due to the narrow roads. The equipment in and around the apartment is overall up to date. The communication with the rental was uncomplicated and straightforward.

Summer break
The property was a great base for our days out in Devon - once the narrow lanes are safely negotiated. Initial problem with missing bath towels was resolved after a couple of days.
