About this property
Unique 2 Bed 2 Bath Villa near Sedella. Stunning views & heatable pool.
Las Cinco Palmeras is a lovely detached villa in the heart of the Axarquia countryside. Situated between the pretty villages of Sedella and Salares, in a peaceful but not isolated situation, the house is the perfect place to come and relax with friends or family. We have a beautiful saltwater pool which can be seasonally heated (chargeable) to provide year round use. Here there is very little light pollution, so at night the stars are amazing.
The house is comfortably furnished and comes with a good wi-fi connection and dedicated space for home working. The main bedroom has a kingsize bed and the beds in the twin room can be made up as a superking if required. There is a good sized kitchen fully equipped for self-catering with plenty of worktop space, an induction hob, oven, dishwasher, microwave, slow cooker, a capsule coffee machine and plenty of crockery, cutlery, glasses and serving dishes. For autumn and winter stays the woodburner in the living room will keep you cosy on chillier evenings. There is underfloor heating in the bathrooms and the airconditioning units in the living room and bedrooms offer warm air heating.
The garden is planted with a variety of shrubs and fruit trees, including a lemon, lime, mandarin and orange; and of course we have the magnificent Washingtonia palms which the house is named after. There is plenty of outdoor space where you can relax in the shade, or in the sun, and a practical outdoor kitchen area with a gas BBQ, sink and countertop for food preparation.
We love enjoying a sundowner on the Lookout, watching the light gradually fading and turning the mountain and hilltops pink. There are wonderful views of La Maroma, the highest mountain in the Axarquia from the pool and terrace.
We are a 5 minute drive or a 30 minute walk from the pretty village of Sedella, where you can find a restaurant, two bars, and a small shop. A little further away you will find the villages of Salares and Archez, each with a local bar/restaurant. Competa is around 20 minutes drive. Here there are a variety of shops, bars and restaurants, a number of small supermarkets, ATM's and a regular Saturday market. The nearest beach is 40 minutes away at Torre Del Mar. Malaga is only a 50 minute drive and a wonderful, very walkable city to explore.
There are plenty of hiking trails close to the house, including the Sendero El Saltillo, with a spectacular hanging bridge, or the Sendero Puente Arabe, a circular route starting in Salares. You can book a tour of the winery and sample the local wines made from ancient vines at Bodega Bentomiz, and enjoy a gourmet meal in their restaurant. We are only a 2 hour drive from the Sierra Nevada ski slopes, where it's often possible to ski until late April, and Cordoba is also just a 2 hour drive away.
If you are planning a stay between October & May we can provide pool heating for €10 per day. If you require this service please notify us at least 3 days before arrival as in the winter it can take 48 hours to bring the pool to temperature.

About the host
Hosted by Debs

We live in The Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, and are fortunate enough to be surrounded by nature and wildlife, although our busy jobs don't allow us to enjoy our local outdoor space as much as we would like to. Our children are both grown up with homes of their own, so with a few years to go yet before we retire, we decided to take the plunge and buy a home in Spain.
Why they chose this property
We first visited the Axarquia in 2016. The memories of the pink-tinged mountains we saw on that first drive from Velez-Malaga towards Vinuela in the late afternoon stayed with us, and we always tried to make a detour to visit the area whenever we were in Spain. In 2021, following a health scare and multiple covid lockdowns, we decided it was time to realise our dream of owing a home in Spain. Although we love the sea and the beach, we chose a home in the mountains for the peace, tranquility and views. We love the authenticity of this part of Andalucia, where you still hear the tinkle of goat bells at the end of each day, bread and cheese vans still visit the villages, and the locals are friendly and patient with our terrible Spanish.
What makes this property unique
Las Cinco Palmeras felt like a home the first time we viewed it, but it was the location that really sold it to us. About a kilometre and a half from the main road down a well-maintained track, it's still close enough to walk into the village if you're feeling energetic, but only a 5 minute drive if you're not. Our guests are looked after by a local English couple who will meet and greet on arrival and are on hand to help with any questions about the house or local area during your stay. We have open countryside views from the front of the house, and the pool terrace and there are only a few houses beyond us on the track, so it's an incredibly peaceful spot. Often all you can hear during the day is birdsong. At night, there is very little light pollution so the star-gazing is amazing. Our local village, Sedella, is tiny, and picture perfect. A maze of narrow streets tumble down the hillside from the church square, most cobbled in intricate patterns and pictures, bordered by colourful pots of geraniums, cacti, and other bright flowers. There is a restaurant, and a couple of bars to sit outside and soak up the atmosphere, and a small village shop. For us, the house is the perfect antidote to our busy work lives and family responsibilities. A place we can come and instantly relax. We love it here. We hope you will too.
