About this property
Extraordinarily converted grain stores - The Silos
Extraordinarily converted grain silos on the edge of an old classic farm within walking distance of one of Suffolk’s prettiest and most renowned market towns. Imaginatively crafted by an award winning visual artist, the two interconnecting silos display aesthetic purity, passionate attention to detail and luxurious living in the round. With a log burner, vaulted ‘domes’, curated artworks, huge bed, remote location and set-like views, the silos are a remarkable one-off. Unique (frequently overused), perfectly articulates this exceptional cottage.
Living Silo
Sitting Area – Below an oculus capped dome designed with harmonic proportions there is a sofa and arm chair facing a free standing log burner backed by the corrugated iron silo skin which has been sculpted into an arresting heat shield. There is a Smart TV in the cupboard’s bottom shelf to get on-grid if needed.
Kitchen - Against one side is a bespoke gallery-style kitchen that repurposes the corrugated iron as an unexpectedly pleasing splash-back. The kitchen has a double electric oven and hob, recycled oak worktop undercounter fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle and circular sink (of course).
Hallway – Features the front entrance door and connects the silos.
Sleeping Silo
Bedroom – Super-king sized bed with a carved door headboard, circus adorned chest of drawers, wooden ottoman and wall mounted clothes hooks and bedside lights.
Shower Room – Mosaic printed floor tiles, hand basin, lavatory and walk-in power shower.
Artworks - There are original contemporary artworks and ceramics by Sonia Delauney, Eduardo Paolozzi, William Kentridge, Sir Hugh Casson, Ian Tyson and others including framed pastel works by The Silos designer and builder, John Christie.
Outside
Utility Room – Next to the car port and houses a large sink and washing machine and makes for an idea boot room and bike storage.
The Grounds – The land immediately surrounding is for the private and exclusive use of The Silos and includes an outside table, chairs and BBQ.
