About this property

Our family's mountain getaway is located 4000 feet up Big Haw Mountain in Avery County, NC. We look forward to your family enjoying it too!! Located within a half an hour of Beech Mountain, Grandfather Mountain, Sugar Mountain, Roan Mountain and Linville Falls, this beautiful two-story round house has plenty of room for the whole family (easily sleeps 10) to relax and enjoy a peaceful mountain retreat. You can enjoy exploring in the woods, the stream, foraging for fruits and berries (we have grapes, apples, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, peaches) or just sitting on the upper or lower decks that surround the 1,950 sq ft house to listen to the stream and watch the birds. If you venture out to the surrounding areas to explore, there are many beautiful parks, great restaurants, a lovely library, and anything you could need for your stay within minutes down the mountain.
A master bedroom upstairs boasts a rustic, custom log queen bed, tv, and beautiful master bathroom with luxurious double shower and Jacuzzi tub. There are three twin beds in the other sleeping area upstairs, as well as fold out memory foam mattresses for guests who would rather snuggle down elsewhere. (or little ones who would rather be near Mom and Dad). The downstairs is appointed with Chinese Oak floors, custom rustic dining room table, coffee table and bench, leather couch and oversized recliner, large tv, and a large kitchen to prepare your gourmet vacation meals!
We are still working on more amenities, but for now, it is a perfectly wonderful get away. Please contact us if you have any questions about our home away from home.

SNOW GLOBE

Everything was great! Our extended family had fun hiking in the snow, sledding down the woods, and hanging out! The hosts were the best ever and thoughtful in their amenities and care to our safety in the snow! It was our 3rd trip to the round house and should not be our last!!!

Beautifully unique

Property is secluded surrounded with trees and streams, beautiful home with plenty of room. Everything we needed was there, water pressure was very good, double head shower upstairs was amazing, we mostly enjoyed the porches and scenery. Would definitely stay here again.

A 5 star location

The property and the house was beautiful. It is definitely somewhere I’d want to return to. Me and my friends take a trip every year in that area and this hands down was the best spot we stayed at.

Wonderful stay!

We had a very nice stay, the house was clean and spacious! The location was very quiet, we left like we were completely disconnected from home and the city which is what we were looking for. Also, the owner was very responsive and very nice to deal with. I would stay there again!

Awesome getaway!!

A wonderful place!! Great place for kids to play and adults to hang out! Plenty of room for everyone and multiple things to do on property alone. Wish we were a le to stay longer and enjoy everything the seclusion had to offer!! I would highly recommend!!

Peaceful mountain getaway

We really loved our stay at the Round House. The kids had fun exploring the property and picking berries. The house is well equipped and comfortable. I really enjoyed the large open kitchen, the jacuzzi tub, and the comfortable beds. I wish we had stayed longer!

Winter Getaway

The host were very helpful and friendly. We stayed here and went snowboarding at Beech Mountain. It was a bit of a drive, but worth it. The home was beautiful and spacious. There was plenty of space for our large family.

Perfect Elevation

Perfect elevation to enjoy the outdoors during the heat of summer! Lovely neighborhood, home, and yard. The fire pit was a plus to enjoy conversation at days end!! The porch was perfect for drinking coffee in the morning. Would highly recommend!!!

Nice round house surrounded by nature

A great vacation destination. The house is large enough for kids and adults to have some space. Kitchen full of all items you will need for cooking. There are a bird feeders that attract all local birds plus adorable chipmunk and squirrels. It is close to almost everything: Blue Ridge parkway, several waterfalls, white water rafting, multiple hiking trails and grocery store.

Excellent rental!

Absolutely one of the best, if not the best, rental we have experienced. The house was exactly as described- comfortable, relaxing, and fun! Plenty of room to stretch out, plenty of room to cook for a large crew, plenty of room to play in the yard. The location is out of the way, but still close enough to get to the sites without a massive drive. The hosts were excellent in communication about the property and even gave us a few ideas for places to explore that we had not yet discovered. Highly recommend this house and will gladly stay at this house again.

Wonderful house in a beautiful location

This is the fourth time we have stayed at this property and it is always a great experience. Twice we have stayed while our church Youth group was at summer camp nearby and twice we have stayed so we could enjoy the numerous hiking trails in Linville Gorge, Grandfather's Mountain, and other various areas. And then there are all the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks that come up on the porch at the house to take advantage of the bird feeders. They are a delight to watch.

Perfect Mountain Home

The house is more beautiful in person. The care and the quality that they have put into this home is very special. As someone in my group said- it's the closest thing to being in a tree house (in a great way). There was plenty of space for everyone. The owner's took care of all the little details. The property was pretty. We got to see the stars at night and watch the firefly show with the music of the streams. Thank you!

Enjoyable summer stay

Our family of seven thoroughly enjoyed staying at the round house in July. Comfortable beds, a large walk in pantry, large kitchen, and spacious porches. Although the house does not have AC, the elevation is almost 4000 ft, so it was very cool sleeping at night. There are 3 overhead fans upstairs and one in the living room, plus some box fans. With windows open, the house did not get very warm inside. There were basic kitchen staples, coffee, tea available and owners just asked that we replace something that we finished. That was really appreciated. The road to the house is paved and not very winding. We were in NC to attend the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games and it only took us about 20 mins to get there. As said by other reviewers, the owners are quick to response to questions. We would not hesitate to recommend the round house to others and would stay again.

Family fun in a round house

The property is larger than we realized - we’re a family of four and there was plenty of room for others (probably 3 comfortably, and even more if you were willing to sleep on a pallet). I think the house had not been used for a few weeks, as it was a little musty and the dish ware needed a good wash prior to using. However, the owners were super responsive and helped with our multitude of questions. The bird feeders were especially lovely, and all manner of birds visited during our 2 day stay. The showers were huge and clean, and all linens were provided. We were asked to transport our trash to the nearby dump, but the landfill was easy to find and no one questioned our residency. The weather was comfortable (much better than the piedmont in early July) and we were close to everything, including Linville falls and Grandfather mountain. Thank you for a lovely time! We hope to stay again sometime!

Perfect Mountain Hideaway

My husband and I just spent a week at the round house with our 6 kiddos. The location is perfect in that it’s secluded and private, yet close to so many fun activities. We walked in to a clean and cozy home and found everything we needed such as towels, linens, and a fully equipped kitchen. The fire pit outside was a popular spot for us, as we roasted marshmallows and made s’mores every night. The kids waited in eager anticipation each evening for the fireflies to appear, and never tired of spotting chipmunks and feeding the birds. Laura was excellent in communication and answering any questions that we had. We were delighted to find that Roan Mountain was close by and managed to visit there twice during our stay. We also visited Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns and Elk River Falls, Linville Falls Winery, and spent a day enjoying all that the town of Banner Elk has to offer. We enjoyed returning to the peace and quiet of the round house each day. This home is perfect for families and we cannot recommend it enough. We made lasting memories during our stay that we will always cherish. If you’re sitting on the fence and unsure if this is the place for you, we are 100% sure that you will love it as much as we did.

Lots of Space & Nature

This house and property is just as advertised. The house is big and spacious. The kitchen is large and great for prepping meals and serving food. Lots of lounging and sitting spaces indoors and out. The porch is a great place to experience all the amazing sights and sounds of the natural mountain ambience. From the little chipmunks and squirrels to the various birds singing and the fireflies at night, you'll enjoy yourself. At night, the breeze and total quiet makes watching the stars more enjoyable. The only two complaints are: The downstairs bed-It was high and not very comfortable. The wi-fi was practically unusable for anything other than checking email. I highly recommend renting this house. They have a large grill, firepit and many other amenities and furnishings to make your vacation successful.

Hello! We are a family of 10 (our oldest wasn't with us for this picture) who love spending time up in the mountains. After years of looking and many rentals all over NC, we finally found our own place. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

This property has everything we were looking for: Seclusion without being too far from adventures, a stream running through the property, wooded areas, flowers, places to grow things, and a peaceful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the world.

What makes this property unique

Our property is the best of both mountain worlds. We are at 4,000 feet, but have a large beautiful yard to play in and explore without falling down the side of a mountain.
