Please note: No children under 5 years old. The property is accessed via a rough track and there is direct access to the loch. The property has a natural water supply from a private source.. The House on the Point is the oldest house in Kylerhea and as per the name, sits on the point at Kylerhea and is a mere 10-12 feet from the “Hide Tide line”. There is nothing better than to sit in the sun room watching the tide come in, and hearing the waves as they hit the rocks right in front of your eyes. Sleeping upstairs can also be accompanied by listening to the loch and the surrounding wildlife. In the field behind the cottage are the owner’s Hebridean sheep, and back again are their two Shetland ponies. You really will have your own haven away from the hustle and bustle, as the cottage is at the end of a wee track so hearing traffic is a rarity.
The children will find their hideaways, as they go along the shore. Throughout the day, you can watch the seals and otters in front of the house and the frequent visitors of the dolphins, porpoises and basking sharks. Above the sea, you can see the golden eagles that fly the high ridges above while the two resident sea eagles Victor and Orla rob the fish off the seagulls outside the patio doors.
The loch in front of the house is the Kylerhea Narrows, and you can get the small community-run turntable ferry over from Glenelg on the mainland. The first sailing is at 10AM, and the last sailing is between 6 and 7PM and is dependent on the season. Although there is no advance booking facility, the local ferrymen would not see anyone left behind!
Whilst walking around Kylerhea you can see roe deer, red deer, mink, pine martens, weasels, foxes, adders and alpacas. There really is something for all the family, teach the kids how to fly fish from the rocks and enjoy the fruits of your fishing for your meal. The views at night from the house are some of the best views you will ever see, a great spot for the Northern Lights. This is truly a holiday cottage that you and your family will remember and pass on the amazing stories to generations to come.
