Neighborhood
Lying directly alongside Hyde Park, this leafy district mostly comprises of strictly controlled conservation areas and contains 275 listed buildings, many of which are grand, large scale Victorian terraces and verdant squares. Labelled a shopper’s paradise, Knightsbridge is famous for the affluent department stores of Harrods and Harvey Nichols, the big name fashion designers that can be found on Sloane Street, and elegant stores in Beauchamp Place, Walton Street and Brompton Cross.
There is a wealth of superb restaurants, with fine establishments boasting cuisines rich in culture and diversity from around the globe. The area is also renowned for its vast range of exclusive bars providing a diverse array of entertainment.
Knightsbridge is one of the most unchanged, attractive areas of central London. It is home to some of London's best museums with the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) all close by. Other notable landmarks are the Royal Albert Hall and the distinctive tower of Knightsbridge Barracks, home to officers of the Household Cavalry.
The location between the natural beauty of Hyde Park, the richly diverse shops and restaurants of Brompton Road and the cultural hub of South Kensington's museum quarter makes Knightsbridge a highly desirable place for a London base.Nowadays Hyde Park is devoted to peaceful enjoyment. Horses exercise on Rotten Row, cyclists ride on the network of cycle paths and couples hire boats on the Serpentine. Many just relax in the sun.
Knightsbridge is one of the world's greatest shopping areas, with Harvey Nichols, Harrods and the flagship stores of internationally-famous brands such as Armani, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahvic, Prada and more.
Knightsbridge offers a property type for everyone, from elegant Georgian houses to terracotta-faced Victorian apartment blocks rather cattily called 'Pont Street Dutch' by the cartoonist and author Sir Osbert Lancaster.
Transit
Knightsbridge is well-located for travelling around London, with Knightsbridge Underground Station on the Piccadilly line and nearby Sloane Square Underground Station on the Circle and District lines. A journey to Piccadilly Circus takes only 5 minutes, while to King’s Cross takes around 13 minutes. The area is also served by plenty of buses both day and night. South Kensington is also a short, 5-minute walk, taking you into London's city hub for those who work in the city.
