About this property
Henry's Fork Waterfront - Camp Targhee
Welcome to "Camp Targhee" a beautiful, small log cabin built in 1923 and updated throughout the years. This much loved cabin sits on the Henry's Fork of the Snake River and includes a dock. You don’t have to go anywhere! You can walk right out the porch door and go fly fishing or enjoy water fun right at this rental property! You will also very often see wildlife such as moose and bald eagle right in front of the cabin! This cabin is in a highly coveted location and sits in a truly special setting -- on a private road with only 14 cabins with the overall area surrounded by natural forest and open space. As a result the environment is very peaceful and serene and is a stark contrast to the cabins up the river and closer to Mack's Inn where the water is crowded with day floaters. It is quite typical to see moose and bald eagle on the river as you are sitting on the dock or enjoying the beauty from the screened riverfront porch. This cabin is perfect for those who want to enjoy Island Park or tour Yellowstone as it is about 20 miles from West Yellowstone and the gate to the park. A perfect trip would include time exploring Yellowstone and time fishing and playing on the river. There are also miles of trails for hiking, biking, running and walking. All this only 20 miles from the West Entrance to Yellowstone!
The cabin includes the following:
* One bedroom with a queen bed, * One bath with a shower, * A twin bed with a trundle bed in the main room. The trundle can be pulled out and left at a level lower than the bed or it can be heightened to become an additional twin bed. * A twin bed on the screened sleeping porch with mesh screen windows rather than glass and a gorgeous view of the river which allows one to sleep in a protected environment while listening to the river and nature sounds all night, * Well outfitted and stocked kitchen with a convection oven, stove, 11 cu foot refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, blender and all utensils, serving and cooking tools you will need. * Weekly trash pick up service on Wednesday Mornings. * WiFi Service (Fiber Optic). * Please note that boats/paddleboards are NOT included. You can bring your own or rent them for your use just a block up the road or at the Marriott just up the river. For some reason on the App VRBO has created a short AI summary that mentions kayaks. I'm not sure why as I don't have any. I have contacted VRBO and asked them to change that. In the meantime, please realize that is a mistake made by VRBO without my consent and I do not own kayaks or provide boats of any kind. I am not able to edit their AI generated summary and am waiting for them to correct it.
This cabin will appeal to those who want to enjoy an old fashioned relaxed lifestyle in the way that many loved Island Park before it was "discovered". The evenings are perfect for outdoor BBQs on the patio and time around the outdoor firepit. This cabin will NOT appeal to those who are looking for a modern home complete with TVs, etc as it is meant to be a respite from modern stress, gadgets and information overload. We purposefully do not have these electronics in the cabin to encourage everyone to unplug, relax, get outside and enjoy the outstanding beauty of the area and the many activities available right out the door. We do have WiFi (fiber optic!) so people can improve the cell service, work remotely, log on to their Netflix account, text etc. The cabin is downriver from the Mack's Inn area and is within walking distance to a riverfront restaurant and a gas station/convenience store. The cabin is about 20 feet from the bank of the Henry's Fork of the Snake River and you can float and boat right off the dock of the cabin. (Bring your own boats or rent them in the area)
There are so many things to do in the area. One big draw is Yellowstone and this cabin is a great place to come back to after a day of touring the Park. It is so wonderful to decompress after a long day of sightseeing by playing in the water, fishing for smaller trout off the dock or enjoying the beauty and sounds from the screened riverfront porch prior to making dinner on the BBQ which overlooks the river. You can also enjoy more local sights such as Big Springs, Box Canyon and hiking Coffee Pot Rapids. You can canoe to Coffee Pot campground from the cabin. Local sights such as Harriman Ranch can be enjoyed via hike or on horseback with one of their guides. Harriman is also great for fishing. Mesa Falls is gorgeous and a must see. Lakes such as Hebgen Lake, Henry's Lake and the nearby Island Park Reservoir are great for swimming, fishing, jet skiing, boating and waterskiing or wakeboarding. There are numerous places to rent boats and jet skis in the area and they will deliver them to the boat launch and pick them up when you are done. Golf is just up the road at the Island Park Village Resort where they also have tennis courts and pickleball courts.
Families, couples and small groups have all loved their time at this cabin. It is perfect if you want to truly live the "cabin" lifestyle. Having said this if you prefer a place with a TV, air conditioning (we do have fans though), a Washer/dryer and dishwasher this place would not be your best choice. Cell service can be spotty but works very well via WiFi calling. While the cabin has a great kitchen it does not Include a dishwasher but we have always enjoyed the camaraderie of doing them together by hand. There are laundry facilities right up the street that are easily accessed when needed as the cabin does not have a washer or dryer.
This cabin is a stand alone single family residence. The lot is 130 feet wide along the river allowing for plenty of riverfront to enjoy and play! The firepit and dock provide a ton of entertainment and fun and are solely for the use of this cabin allowing for fun family times!
This cabin is not a great choice for ATV enthusiasts who want to bring their own ATVs as there is no parking or turnaround for ATV trailers. If you want to rent them for the day and ride the many miles of trails in the general area there are many shops that have them available for rent. As there is no place to park them at the cabin we request that they not come in as they will overcrowd the cabin parking and disrupt the neighborhood. We also cannot accommodate boat trailers due to the fact there is nowhere to park them or turn them around due to the small, private dead end road.
Once your reservation has been accepted the rental agreement and additional information and addendums must be signed and returned to the owner within 48 hours of receipt by the person(s) renting the cabin (including copies of a Driver's License for each adult member of the party).

Very beautiful and nice little cozy lodge perfect for camping or just relaxing while enjoying the amazing scenery around. Only issue for us was we thought there were kayaks or canoes on property for us to use but that wasn’t the case.

Thanks for being great guests and I'm so happy you enjoyed the cabin! I'm so sorry to hear you thought kayaks or canoes were included. This confuses me as the property listing states in the description that boats are not included and the rental contract specifically states that guests should bring their own beach towels, fishing equipment, water toys, boats, etc and that there are no boats or watercraft included with the rental agreement. I do include information in the cabin manual that I send electronically upon booking (and sits in hard copy in the cabin) on where guests can rent boats for either a float trip or to bring back to the cabin and use there. I only state this here so that others who may read this don't have the same misunderstanding. I do not like to hear that someone was disappointed about some aspect of their visit to Camp Targhee! It is such a magical place and my goal is to have every aspect of visits there be wonderful.
Our visit was just as expected and the property was right on the rivers edge. That was our goal. Was is a rustic cabin…? Yes it was but a delight just the same! We will be back again soon.
This cabin is magical. It sits on the quiet river and is away from the commotion of Mack’s Inn. It is the perfect size for a small family and feels so warm and inviting.

I'm so glad you had a nice time and took the opportunity to enjoy coffee here before leaving. It's the best to sit out there and see the birds and moose!
This cabin is a beautiful place to stay. Had all the modern conveniences for a rustic cabin in the woods. Great location for seeing wild life and enjoying the water. Will be back again!

I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed it so much! It’s a special place. Come back any time!
Our stay at Camp Targhee was peaceful and refreshing. The rustic cabin offered a true getaway experience, with no electronics -somethig we genuinely appreciated. Communication from the owner was excellent, making the whole process smooth and welcoming. The property itself is cozy, quiet, and clearly well cared for, with everything we needed readily available. One of the highlights was watching the wildlife, which added to the charm of the experience. A perfect place to unwind and reconnect with nature.
We had a wonderful time at this cabin! It was clean, authentic, and very comfortable. Laurie provided helpful information about the area and Yellowstone. We played in the river with the kids and enjoyed the view. The only thing we would have changed would have been to stay longer!

So glad you had a nice time with your family! and enjoyed it so much that you lengthened your stay after being here a few nights! Hope you caught some great trout!
The river front cabin is a sweet throwback to a fish camp. Very tastefully decorated and all the necessities you need. The twin beds are not the most comfortable for an adult but would be just fine for kids. Great informational book in the cabin tells you everything you need to know about the area and the cabin. The host was very responsive to texts and has worked hard to ensure you have everything you need.

Thanks Cheryl. You were amazing guests! I am happy to hear you enjoyed the cabin and amenities but am disappointed to hear the brand new twin bed mattresses were not as comfortable as you would have preferred. The trundle does limit options to a 8 inch mattress rather than deeper more plushy mattresses as they won’t fit under the trundle. But I will see if there is a topper or something I can find that will help with that!
Laurie was an incredible host. The cabin is older but she has done a wonderful job in keeping it fully stocked and clean. She checked in often and was very helpful when I had a question. The cabin is about 30 mins from Yellowstone but it is a very easy trip. Thanks for sharing your family home with us!

Just As Described
We thoroughly loved this cabin and the area is gorgeous. Caught many fish in the river just out the back door of the cabin. The cabin is stocked with exactly what is needed to have a very relaxing getaway. It took us only 20 minutes to get to Yellowstone, although we didn’t need to go there to see wildlife, that too is right out the back door of the cabin. Thank you Laurie.

About the host
Hosted by Laurie Deaton
Laurie has been coming to Island Park her entire life....her grandparents owned a cabin up the river and she has spent every summer of her life enjoying that cabin with friends and family.
Why they chose this property
Waterfront, close to the park, beautiful views, moose and other wildlife right out the window on a daily basis. This place is a true gem for those who really want to kick back.
What makes this property unique
This cabin is a fun way to really get into the spirit of the Old West and the Yellowstone area. It is hand made from lodge pole pine and is similar to many of the old structures that have been torn down in the area. It is also similar to old ranger buildings and structures in Yellowstone National Park. This cabin provides a more authentic experience than a new cabin/house or a hotel room.
