Although in Country Durham the location is close to the borders of Cumbria and Northumberland making this an ideal base to get out and explore.

St Johns Chapel (less than 1 mile away) has 2 pubs, one of which serves food, a café and Co-op, making it ideally placed for those who need to use public transport or want to stay local to St Johns Chapel. Local buses in the area are operated by Weardale travel.

For those who want to embrace the outdoors, you can begin many walks or cycle routes from the doorstep and the Weardale Activity Centre is a 2 minute car journey or a 10 minute walk from the cottage. The North of England Lead Mining Museum at Killhope is a 5 - 10 minute drive from the cottage, and is worth a visit giving you an insight into the lead mining era with underground tours.
